Something happened here I did not think Iwo-jima was one of the must shock attack islands. But that is what happened, I don't think his loses here are going to make a real diffrence to the result. As he picked up 2000+ VP points last 2 days and only lost 500 VP point in this attack. Now that they are on the island he should have no problem suppying them. I have no Navy/Sub Force left that can give him a real punch. Looks like it may be time to sacrifice the last of my destroyers in a vain hope to do some damage.

This goes directly against my plan of where the death star is where I wont be.

I have two CA almost repaired in singapore looks like I may patrol them off the australian coast to try and pick up a few easy convoy kills. might rebase them to balikapan.

I sent a large attack towards Iwo-Jima 45 nates doing Kamikaze with 4 sentai escorting. Good result from the georges, problem was the Kamikaze did not fly.

What is the normal range of a Kamikaze. I want them to fly fully loaded.

I have also moved a sentai of Zeros and Ki-46-III Dinah (Kamikaze) to Pagan. I hope to catch some unescorted ships moving between Saipan and Iwo-Jima before he turns his airforce back onto pounding Pagan.

Hi StoneAge,

I just started reading your AAR the other day and am getting completely caught up. I have to say for taking it on the chin so early in the game and still hanging in there, I commend you. The similarities in our two games in terms of anemic Japanese ASW capabilites offset by incredibly potent Allied submarines in early/mid 1942 is downright scary. I'm only wrapping up June/42 in my game, but the frustration level with certain aspects of playing as Japan have become extremely high at times. I am encountering some of the same issues you have post-patches and also just in terms of playing as Japan in general. I'd be interested once your game is finished, what your thoughts are on the experience of playing as Japan and if you would play them again? Were a lot of your difficulties from a lack of experience with the game mechanics, or is there a bigger issue for you?

Good luck the rest of the way, and by that I mean have fun and get what you can out of the situation and improve/learn what you can for the next round . I'm an inexperienced player and a failure at world domination so far, but I hope to get a little better everyday . Thanks for the effort on your AAR and it's been an interesting game to follow considering the early setback.

Thanks SqzMyLemon, a lot of my bad luck came from some silly moves on my part and some very bold play early on from AdmSpruance. At this late stage of the game it is all about learning. When I lost my carriers early I though he would steam on home and finish me in 42, But one of the best changes to come out of the AE version is mid ocean intercepts. These are great now the Japanese navy can go out and hunt down his convoys. In my next game you will see this tactic more from the start of the game. When the game finishes I will try to list all the things I did wrong and the one or two things I got right.

One tip now: 4 DD Surface groups with 60+ captains on all ships can slip in and destroy a convoy very quickly, add a CA with aircraft and they make a good hunting party. Just don't stick around in the one area too long.

If you are wondering why the japanese are not defending Japane very well here are my air groups. Red is second line aircraft and blue is not in the home island. Notice the total lack of planes. No production and the fact I can lose 200+ planes in each two turn phase when the allies come calling. I have about one more two day phase and then there will be no airforce. My avarage skill is still in the 60's just no planes to fly.

Naha, Finally attacked two normal attacks each destroying 6000+ men. In two days I loss a full Division and he takes 1000 Cas. Looking at past results I think it is the amount of armour he brings along. I would like to see what happens if he send's 1 Division and the 1000+ tanks. I think you will find the results will be the same as bringing ten Divisions.

Here is the Butchers Bill of the last two days:

Remember this is only the ships that have sunk already (94 so far), there are a lot more with 50+ % damage that will go down as yet.

Look at all those 1000 pound bombs. I think 100 pound bombs should have a limit on them the same as torpedos. If we limit the number of torpedos a carrier can carry why not the number of 1000 pounders. You may be able to carry twice as many 1000 as torps but both types take up a lot of room.

And finally the naval summary

The BB (80+ Days) is in dry dock at Yokohama (he moves the death star closer and it will be on the bottom)

2 CA and 1 CL are down near Australia ( I am going to run the right through the middle back to Japan)

1 CL in Japan right under his guns (wont last out the day)

Thats the last of my heavy's (Bad when you have to call a CL a Heavy just to make yourself fell better)

If Spruance goes after my AK's at the rate he is killing them not, He could sink the lot in 10 days, 15 at the most.

Stonage, my respects for keeping up the fight at this stage!  You have hurt your opponent many times on even ground, but I imagine that the game at this stage must be very frustrating.  If I were you, I probably would have asked my opponent to quit after the conquest of Philippines.  But I hope you have the motivation to continue this through to an invasion of the HI -- I would really like to see whether Operation Olympic could have be a disaster on the beaches of Japan...

This game will go to the end. (It may not be far off, I think he only needs double points to cause a Auto victory in 44).

I want this game to keep going as I am wondering how powerful his LR Bombers will be once he goes to Strat bombing of the home island. I think with two day turns whole factories/cities will cease to exist.

Next a HI invasion would be interesting have been getting lots of divisions finally arriving. We where playing +/- 60 days mine all seem to be - 60 days.
