September 1, 1939 : The KM runs for home, with multiple UBoats screening the two patrol groups heading in from the far reaches. We choose not to spend for research this turn because of the uncertainty surrounding the atack on Poland.

September 9, 1939 : We press forward in Poland. For the first time in my experience the German ships got off scot free, returning to port safely and doing a little damage too. The Germans did see a little negative PP growth.

Yeah, unit upkeep in ETO is no joke. The Germans can hardly build any units until at least France falls. Even the Russians are largely restricted from new builds pre war due to upkeep costs, unless they choose to completely ignore tech investment.

Yes, this is fully intentional. Germany must husband her resources in the early part of the game or suffer consequences later. I also raised the upkeep for USSR. The USSR player will have the choice to go for either a less numerous amount of high quality units, or only basicaly trained hordes. Remember that you pay for high quality "twice". First when you raise the level, then each month due to higher upkeep.

January 9, 1940 : (Those who ae following some of my posts in the Tech and Mods forums know I was having troubles with the map, and with Italian units being powerless. These seem better now.) The germans continue to run over France and Denmark. Italy ges back to Benghazi, but will they resist the British and French?

February 1, 1940 : The successful Axis diplomats rejoice in France's decision to join the war against the British. The Frence posture is that they are in anti-comintern mode but the resentment against what is perceived as a luke warm committment to the defence of France played a large part.

February 9, 1940 : Which way will the Axis go. All evidence points to an assault on England, but the Soviets are still incomfortable.
