I'd move the stuff manually. I don't trust the AI to move the stuff between adjacent ports.

Note that the engine factory there uses HI points, which are in a pool, not on map.

Don't store the resources there "until you need them". Honshu uses 100k resources a day beyond what is produced there. Store them on Honshu or you'll never get them off Shikoku fast enough.

In the upper left of the screen (along the top), there is a button with a plane on it. Click on it, click the Japanese plane button and then click the plane you area looking for.

I did click on the Plane button but it doesn't list the Judy which doesn't come out for at least 6 months into the war. What kind of plane is the Judy anyhow?

Also, how do you know how many resources each factory uses?

Judy - is a DB, look at the plane info screen(in game), the DB or Tracker.

LI = 15 res per factory
HI = 20 Res per factory
etc see chart

What are the advantages if any of expanding the merchant shipping factories?

It allows you to build merchant ships faster. That includes things like CVEs too, which are considered merchant ships because they are built on merchant hulls. Check the rule book for a list of all the ships that use merchant points. The cost is in HI. You have to weigh the cost vs. the benefit for every expansion you do.

Well Mike beat me to it, but it will allow you to build mostly on time ... 890 points/turn over the course of the war will allow you to build it all ... expansions cost supplies and eventually HI...
1 Merchie Pt = 3 HI

I think there are other pressing needs than Merchant shipbuilding... Check out the Shipbuilding Tab ... and yeah, more tutorials are needed when it comes to Tracker

Well yes it's as easy as all that ... hmmm well except, that:-
* Shipyard points are used to complete new ships at a rate of:
1. Normal Construction - each day, ship's arrival delay is reduced by 1 day: Shipyard Points consumed = ship's Durability.
2. Accelerated Construction - each day, ship's arrival delay is reduced by 2 days: Shipyard Points consumed = 3 * ship's Durability.
3. Halted Construction - ship's arrival delay not reduced: Shipyard Points consumed = 0.
* If Ship's delay > 10 * Ship's Durability, and construction is Normal / Halted, delay is reduced by 1 day, Shipyard Points consumed = 0.
* If 10 * Ship's Durability < delay < 30 * Ship's Durability, and construction is Accelerated, delay is reduced by 2 days, Points consumed = ship's Durability.

Just a comment after playing for a while on this. I need to take it eAsy on this expansion thing . In one game I have next to no supply in japan because I have been expanding so much accross the board. Lol

It doesn't matter! This is a great thread full of all kind of useful stuff for a first-time JFB. I bumped it up so I could find it again when I got to work. But I do take notice of your current supply situation and your expansion plans. Thanks for the heads up.

Besides tracker, is there any way to find out what amounts of diff stuff you have in diff road/railway connected areas?

I managed to make the Tracker only load one turn. Says it cant load the save anymore...

Also, is the auto-convoy of any worth, and if yes I assume you can give it more ships by sending auto-disbanding TFs to Japs, or is it just better to manually check the situation every few days, keep notes, and send auto-disbanding convoys back and forth? Maybe keeping some of the resources produced at the mainland there? I changed quite a lot of the aircraft industry in couple of first days, I think I'll need a load of supply at the home islands for a while now to keep the factories repairing. My Tojo R&N factory is still (40) x 0 after 5 days.

Don't use autoconvoys use CS transports to do the resource transport automatically...

And will be for a long time... R&D doesn't just repair straight away. It takes a long time - depending on how far out the a/c date is ... just make sure you've got 10K supplies at base.

Rgr. Better reserve a pencil and a notebook then, I suppose. For the convoys, not industry.

Made the choice to give up with all the crapplanes, there are huge amounts of engines for patrol planes and Ki 27, shut down all engine production and changed them to mainly Ha-35 and Ha-32. Most useless 44/45/46 plane R&N changed to Tojo, Helen and Frank. Some useless available plane factories changed to stuff I actually do something with. Like G4M1, A5M2 and especially B5N2. I'm going for 240+ Ha-35/month, with as many Zekes and Oscars as I dare, but saving some engines for later Ki-44 production.

So far I have just mostly moved TFs around and pressed on the invasions. Turn 8 now. I really need to go through the units and ships I have, and plan ahead, further than 5 days. Both the ongoing offensive operations as well as plan & prepare future ones, and the industry. Apparently I should be practically walking over the Chinese too, but this is not happening at the moment. Moved reinforcements from everywhere I could, but they are still outnumbering me everywhere, and I already lost a small-ish town. Also, an allied carrier TF reacted quick, theres one somewhere 6-7 hex East from Truk, and I brought my own CVL there to support landings on Rabaul and New Guinea. Just afraid to move it south, in case it gets backstabbed. Better docked at Truk with the Betties backing up the Kates and Claudes.

EDIT: Will check the tracker again once home.

I know I need to switch the Ida production to something else but it is a 30 so am in a dilemma on what to switch it to. I am down to either zeros or Bettye but already have 4 factories building zeros and 2 building Betty's.
Comments anyone? I also have 2 factories building OscRs and 1 big factory building nates

As a beginner I would say Sally's and Oscars are required theres a whole lot of squadrons in China and Korea etc that need upgrading and to be later bought out.

Ahh, got the Tracker work. For some reason I had gone and changed the SaveMode to 0 from 1.

Now CS transports set to bring all extra stuff from all islands, including Formosa and Okinawa, to Honshu. Plus 2 lines that ship fuel and supplies back to China/Korea and Formosa. Heavily escorted convoys shall move it ahead from there... This should be enough until I have the DEI, right? Mainland(China etc.) seems to use itself about all the resources it creates.

I notice Bankok has an oil refinery.Isnt it easier to bring oil to Bankok from DEI then pick it up from Port Arthur?As opposed to using sea routes?Or is it too slow?

Well you need an open land route for a start and the Oil still isn't probably going to end up there ... test it an see...

Up to 18 Apr 42 with my current game against rjopel as the Japanese.

I just spent a couple of hours studing what it would take to maximize the movement of resources out of the Philipines now that I have taken Battaan and removed all the mines my opponent has placed in the area.

Anyone who wants to play this game just to fight is missing so much more in the management of the Japanese economy! It is so rich in detail.

Oil won't transfer auto-magically up to port arthur unless you own the route from vietnam up to either Shanghai and/or Port Arther. This includes Changsha, Kwellin, Nanning, etc...the Oil won't transfer across secondary roads very well, so you need to control the major roads and rail lines...

I've done this in one of my PBEMS and I'm not seeing stuff move from Singapore up to either Port Arthur and/or Shanghai. You can't pull oil from Shanghai, so I'm gong to see if I can trick the game and unload oil into shanghai and then pull it back and see if that causes oil to transfer there. My logistics plan is to have short hops from Java -> Sumatra -> Malaysia and then utilize the road and rail network to get the oil/fuel up to Shanghai and/or port arthur. Saves on convoys, fuel and risk! I may need to do some more trickery and pull oil/fuel from some interim bases, such as Hanoi in order to get stuff moving up. There's no direct control over base requests for either, so that may be the trick.

In other words, moving fuel, oil and resources accross rail/roads may be more art than science.

January 29th.

Third of the war production crashed... For some reason, I decided that 12 D3As/month would be enough. And that I need 60 B5N2s. At the moment, KB is waiting for reinforcements in Yokohama's port, pool says 30 Kates(+50 x B5N1s) and 0 Vals(now for a full week

). Pool is out of Ki-48s, all models(okay, some 1bs left), increased Betty production just ate Ha-32 engines and now, while I have enough to fill squads, I have no reserves of either G4M or Ki-21 as the engine production lags seriously behind, and I havent been able to upgrade a single unit to Betty, Nell or Sally. Ki-43 production was doubled, and now I actually have some reserves, however.

On the top of it all, only January 5th I found out that I have huge amounts of LCUs sitting in Formosa, Saigon and especially Home Islands. Philippines is captured(Bataan left, only 25k-ish men there) and while Malaya is progressing well, I have invaded only 3 bases in Borneo and north coast of new guinea.

I should have invaded Sumatra and Java a month ago. And many other places. Mindanao I did, but it seems pretty useless before investing in building airfields, maybe. Besides, Haruna ran into a mine and Fuso was torpedoed, both need still 60-ish days of repairs. And I just lost 4 DDs to a minefield. A "smart" airborne invasion behind the Allied lines in Mindanao was cancelled when it was found that the transports' range would not be sufficient. Attacking a secondary target, the troops landed on a waiting full division of yanks and got slaughtered. I think I'll just abandon the game and start again...

Yeah.The route across China needs a campaign in itself just to get the rail route open.In two games ive got going ,i have no route open and the Chinese have two ports right on my doorstep.Its curious since oil is pooling in saigon in one game and Camran bay in my other game.Allied subs prowl at will near port arthur but my ASW operations are effective in that area.Im still wrapping my head around the content and complexity of this game!Good stuff!
