I am playing campaign 8 as the Japanese, just started & have noted that I have two invasion amphib TF's loaded up at Samah, one going to Manado and the other Ternate? Err, where exactly are these as I can't seem to locate them either on the map or Appendix 20.2B of the handbook so I presume they must be on the mainland or some large island body?

Thanx,  I appreciate it.

is there a listing anywhere of total (potential) bases/cities etc?  Appendix 20.2 does all of the (small) islands but that's about it

General area: Dutch East Indies .. just below the Philippines

Both locations can be found around the border region of the Celebes Sea and the Molucca Sea.
Manado will be on the extreme tip of the Island of Celebe (Sulawesi). Ternate should be found just across the water on Halmahera.

Hope that helps.

You can always use witpStaff. There's a good map tool.

Here is example where two of my units are planning Lae. Other one is at Truk and other one is at Tokyo.

When you are playing the game, press the 'b' key. That calls up the bases display. Usually the list is sorted alphabetically, if not then click on the header to make it so. Find the base you are looking for and notice that the far right column is the base map coordinates. Click on the coordinates and the map centers on the base for you.

If you play in windowed mode, you can start the game twice, once playing allied one playing jap. You can then look at all bases.
Having two games open is also usefull for testing the first PBEM-Turn. Every mistake you discover can be fixed immediately without having to load again...

My first experience playing the Japanese, I came up with the same problem (did not know any of the stuff suggested either) could not find these two places to save my life, so finally in desperation, I stopped the game went online and did a GOOGLE search! Another chapter in how tuff it is to play Japan!

Yup. Though he said he had TF's on the way there, and TF's reset to a friendly base when their destination is captured.

Having another command, something like 'e' to show a list of enemy bases (with only reconnoitered or previously known information of course) would be fantastic.

Would having a better knowledge of the Theatre of Operations you are gaming in be of help.
Apologies for stating this, but there have been similar questions asked and I am amazed that anyone would pay app USD$60 for a topic they know very little about.

There is an amazing amount of info regarding geography, aircraft, shipping, Land Units etc etc etc available on the web
which would answer this and the many millions of similar questions which the game is going to ask. have a look at the WITP Forum, there was a sticky with useful links. Have a read of them, they will give you a better knowledge plus a database to look at and find these sort of answers.

You can really amaze someone telling words like "Rabaul, Kavieng, Aitape, Hollandia, Wewak, Peleliu, Cyclop mountains, Driniumor, Leyte, Balikappan, Tarakan, Empress Augusta Bay" :D

It has similar effect as "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"

Can tell you from personal experience (IRL), Manado is the B**thole of the world. Visited there in 2006 for work reasons. Its hot( not that I dislike hot), dirty, unfriendly and very tense. Lots of religious and ethnic problems. Read up on them, it is actually quite interesting. Won't go into them here.

But, I must admit, it is located in a quite stunningly beautiful location and surrounds. City itself is awful but head out of town, its amazing.
