Advice Needed on A Siege/Assault

So, my first vs AI game has proceeded quite a-historically. A Brit offensive has pushed the Japanese out of Burma and we have advanced into Thailand. I am the Allies, and I need some advice on taking on a strongly garrisoned Bangkok with a British army.

I would post a screenshot, but the situation isn't all that complicated. My force consists of British and commonwealth forces, who have gained some experience from victories in Burma, including significant artillery and quite a number of tanks. (200+) There are about 25 units in total with AV value of 2000+. Supply is OK, though not in excess.

I am facing a rather tough looking Japanese garrison at Bangkok, the next target. There is at least a division, maybe more, 7 units total. The hex is urban, and therefore I don't foresee any easy conquest through direct assault.

The good news is that I have complete air superiority, as I have secured a level five airfield at Tavoy. Furthermore, I absolutely have momentum here... the army that attacked Burma has not had enough time to recover. What is more is that although I can probably expect some enemy reinforcements from the Malaya area, the Saigon area seems practically empty.

So- I see that there are a few options with what I can do here. But, since I don't have much AE land combat experience, (other than the initial allied defensive efforts) I could use some input on how to take on Bangkok. I can try to flank it, I can try to attrit the defenders, bombard them, or bypass Bangkok and try an attack towards the rest of Indochina. ----Thoughts?

My reply based on historical assessment-(assuming you have enough troops which I doubt highly)-

always bypass large urban centers: remember Stalingrad.

Problem: you likely don't have the troops to keep em bottled, nor do you have the naval/air assets to keep them from being resupplied. Back, then, to square one....

important: what year are you at?

I'd love to hear what others might offer.....

There are 3 Road/Rail links going into Bangkok. The one from Malaya should be easy to cut, the ones from the Northeast and Southeast harder. Bangkok has resources, heavy industry, light industry and refineries. Since you have air superiority, I would bomb the airfield, then the port to keep his engineers busy and use supply. Try and cut those Road/Rail links if you can. Bomb his ground troops a bit before you enter the urban hex. Good luck.

P.Hausser-- Hah, I know, but I'm afraid I don't have enough time for that, and although my last PBEM (old witp) did get into april '42, it took longer in real life to play that many turns. I'm playing this now to gain experience with the late 43-45 phase, which I have never played through. We'll see what I want to do PBEM-wise after a few patches and some more play time!

Hunchback- that was generally what I was thinking if I was to try a direct assault.

Canuck- Well, its a vs AI game, so its June 1942, and I felt safe enough with the British navy defending against a landing to send essentially every group of reinforcements that arrive at Aden into Rangoon, and most of those are now moving towards Bangkok. Also, the AI is none too bright, so it may be possible to surround without serious opposition. Yet, I feel you are right about avoiding urban hexes at all costs. It was always that way in the old witp, and I believe it will be the same or worse now.

I'm thinking my course of action will be to bypass Bangkok and advance towards the Indochina area, possibly even Vietnam as there are now several roads leading right into the middle of the country. That move will allow me to keep my army's mobility, and still accomplish the goal of cutting off the army in Malaya from land support in Indochina. Moreover, although my supply lines will be long, I hopefully won't be burning the kind of supply I would be in head on attacks.
