Andy says we need to slow down; a bug prevents his armored units from taking replacements.
We need to wait for the patch or upgrade to beta? Asked him about the latter.

Don't know were his carriers are Mynok; not at Pearl cause then he would have been more active around Palmyra me thinks.
Probably Suva area! Still, I got the KB nearby - so if he wants to trap my convoy he needs to handle 6 carriers in total.

Thx Cribtop; but honestly - Andy has been retreating up until now and the victories have been easy ones!
Logistics is hard to handle; my Central Pacific Operations turned out to be a shoestring ops
- In a year we will know how succesful my campaigns have been!

Long time Harvey, which way did you go - Kabul?
Let me know, are things going according to Andy's plan?

Ok some good news today!
Andy is going to need Red Adair to put out these fires....

Convoy Battle

PzB,

Yes go ahead an upgrade to the beta. It really is unfair to be on the offensive as the bug really kills all Australian and Indian armor units and I find that these are big in defending OZ.

I have found nothing wrong with the beta and it certainly cured that bug.

It does not seem that convoy planning is Andy's strong suit given the way you have really hammered him with everything from subs, to CV intercepts to surface raiders. If as the Allies you don't get creative you subject ourself to leaving alot of merchant shipping and cargo on the bottom of the Pacific against player of your caliber. Andy is going to miss those tankers you have been hammering when trying to get the fuel necessary to sustain those big offensive ops in late 43.

I think that is one of the more underappreciated aspects of the game and given the way AE has put the kabash on the Allied "over supply" in WitP one of the more critical to Allied success. It is definitely one that I always focused on. It is not glamorous and is rather time consuming, but it sure does payoff. The japanese player will have the same kind of issues getting resources to the home islands against a player who is active with his subs. I look forward to seeing your convoy plans.

John, I was tasked on short notice to go to AFG, I was given 10 days to pack my bags and do the "duffle bag drag", so I pretty much dropped all non essential activities and focused on getting ready to deploy. I am in Kabul working for the NATO Training Mission. Went by the Norwegian Mission Support Element on the ISAF compound yesterday, so if you decided to visit Kabul there would be a place for you have lunch (although GEN McChrystal stopped all the sale of alcohol on the compound).

I do believe that the French base (somewhere) has a bar and alcohol is freely available there (upto a personal limit) but being french i doubt they classify wine as alcoholic .. Brits too are booze free these days, rather odd considering our football fans get very aggressive and dangerous after boozing up, surely our squaddies bladdered up to the hilt would deterr the taliban .

Back on track , nice convot kill there , far too big a convoy imo anyway, he'd have to split it up to unload anywhere, so should have had several small ones on differant routes to minimise potential ambushes. Maybe Andy has a weak point here ,, although i am sure he can make it back up with ground combat.

So you're enjoying the sun in Kabul; hope you got more than a trench to sleep in
Say hello to Mr Taliban from me - with a hand grenade if possible!-)
Take care down there and get back in one piece Harvey!

Updated to the beta patch - didn't notice much difference; old plagues still haunt me.

Andy is a tad lazy with subs and convoys, the very annoying thing is that he almost got away with it; should have finished that convoy!

- Sent out 3 seaplane tenders, 2 warships and the 2 carriers but the enemy convoy was gone gone gone....
There's no way to order "shadow convoy" so by turning on full speed the convoy could escape faster than our search planes could follow them even when "surrounded" by our ships and planes.

Was also hampered by the bug that hit my fighters last time; this time ALL Kate torpedo bombers were set to 100% training.
Probably when I set a unit in Japan. There is something wrong here and I'm starting to get a bit frustrated as I had set the Kates on 20% search to follow the enemy convoy.

At Palmyra I have had 3 docked ships for 3 days with 3-4000 supplies unloading; island supply levels have been stationary at _20_ supplies Don't really get it, just like the AKV that wouldn't unload.

Got some big plans but I'm wavering a bit; not sure if I dare to deploy, cause time and again I meet these strange little annoyances and carriers that refuse to launch. - Starting to loose faith and can see a big disaster looming on the horizon; probably when the KB is wiped out when refusing to launch ac at a critical moment.

well, there´s another possibility why the convoy in this area is gone from one day to the other, but I let you figure out why this has happened. Could be that your search ac had no chance to find it

Please don't tell me that it's possible to "zoom" off the maps edge....

Andy sent 3 destroyers to Townsville today, probably motivated by his easy kills earlier on.
What a dead boring encounter; 2 single hits from ranges between 3 and 13000 yards, being 8 against 3 didn't help - nor did Japan's so called superior night fighting abilities. - The complete opposite of what happens when a convoy is engaged.

OK, here is my question/concern. How many troops are you using for this? (i.e. how many divisions) Does this not require a large effort? And therefore, does this not weaken your perimeter, leaving you open to a counter thrust somewhere else? What have you done to defend your perimeter such as Burma, Sumatra/Malaya, Java, Solomons, Marshals, Kuriles?

Yep, audacious - but who dares wins and now it's Hammer time

Need to go through the combat roster, but we got something like 6 full sized divisions, 1 brigade and maybe a dozen crack regiments and 20 tank / recon regiments. Will get back with more details later on, you just got a sketch for now; but the invasion force is already on its way!

I'm putting ca 2000 AV in Burma including strong armored units with some reserves in Singapore - Java - Luzon area.
Elite fighter and naval bombers units are available in Singapore / Sumatra and Java with more in the Home Islands.

The perimeter bases are being developed; New Guinea - Solomons with mutually supporting bases.
The idea is that the KB will patrol the area from Rabaul to Sydney and be available for a strong counter attack on an enemy invasion force in this area. If Andy wants a full carrier clash in 42 or early 43 he can have it.

In the Central Pacific - Marshalls we have now expanded into Palmyra and I've sent numerous reinforcements to this area.
It will be a slow slugging match to get to Kwajalein which is heavily supported by naval bombers.

Not concentrating in the Kuriles; building troops closer to the Home Islands. I'm not moving out 4th Fleet troops but keeping them as a reserve. If Andy makes a major effort I will have to consider using the KB to hit him in the flank. Can't see he would be interested in anything like this before mid 43 at earliest.

When attacking in India we put all our eggs in a far away basket; Oz is much more central and it will be possible to divert air and sea assets to Java, Solomons, Marshalls much quicker.

Burma is a big concern in AE - if India is off the agenda, there are enough forces to start pushing Japan back from mid 42.

Frankly, if you go into Oz you should go in with a view to crushing it entirely and simplifying your war into just two fronts -
1. Pacific vs USA
2. Western ( Java and Oz ) facing the British in India and the US ability to send troops and the USN through the Atlantic and into Capetown etc.

PzB, Are you playing scen 1 or 2?

With two campaigns going as the Allies, I actually have come to think that they have made the Allies much weaker in 1942 than in WITP. What is your take on this?

Booooring! In AE everybody are attacking Northern Australia.

Why hasn't you just told me to shut up, because you have a such daring plan? :)
Now I'm ashamed I doubted you. Actually I might even think you are overdoing it! :P

BTW. What is the line, which triggers additional Australian militia?

Monter, if PzB goes south of Brisbane the Aussie reserves are called up. Defining "south" is challenging in AE, but my understanding is that Perth won't trigger them but the SE Australia campaign he's outlined would.

If PzB pulls this off (and I think he just might) we will build a JFB statue in his honor.

Ah, finally weekend; tired as a log despite not having kids yet.
- AE is much to blame since I always stay up 1 hour to long to do just another turn!

Burma is a threatened sector indeed; need to work hard to reinforce it.
Can anyone give me an estimate of what AV Andy could be expected to bring?
- If we have 2000 AV in place for defence he will have to bring 3-4000 to get somewhere.
If he wants to invade by sea he need more than the British flat tops for support.

Well, if I first invade Australia why don't give it all my best!
Maybe all of it is to ambitious but I'll be opportunistic and do my best while trying to avoid the big disasters.
Andy doesn't have much of a reference on how to defend Oz and I like that - all new dice.

This is scen 2; so Japan got an extra army. No idea if Allies are weaker, have to ask Andy or someone more familiar with the Allied battle roster. If they are able to attack in Burma in mid 42 weaker wouldn't be the first thought that came to mind though

Hehe, a few surprises along the way only spice things up Monter!-)

If I fail you can build an AFB statue of Andy instead and place a small moron statue next to hi...

6 days until Yamato is ready - not using battleships much at this stage; to fuel hungy and they hit $hit...
Considering to put half the battle wagons at Truk and the rest in Singapore as a reserve together with some escort carriers.
- The Mini KB must support the KB in the task of isolating SE Oz.

Our heavy cruisers will be our main striking force backed up by the 4 Kongo's escorting the KB.

The Australian Army Group is composed of:

The Geraldton invasion force

65th Brigade
20th Inf regiment
2 tank regiments
1 engineer regiment
1 arty unit
Div base forces and support units.

The 16th Army spread out between Alice Springs and Bowen

2 full divisions
9 inf regiments
13 tank units
2 assault engineer units
A dozen arty units
Numerous garrison and support units

The 25th Army currently at sea:

4 full divisions
3 inf regiments
2 tank units
3 assault engineer units
Numerous arty and support units

The plan is that 6 tank units and 1 inf regiment will link up with these troops from Alice Springs.

Reserves: 2 infantry regiments at Rabaul.

Totals:
6 divisions
1 brigade
12 regiments (+2)
17 tank units
6 assault engineer units
+ Arty, garrisons and support units

I'm planning to place the amphibious brigade at Tulagi / Lunga while 3 regiments are kept in the Marshalls together
with the bulk of naval garrisons and SNLF units.

I thought the change was that now the AVs could fly their planes even while disbanded in port.

Think its only allied AV's that dont fly at sea , was like that in WitP and don't believe it's changed in AE.

But a few allied AV's have a capacity in addition to their support. I haven't gotten them to work (to transfer planes to them), but I thought that a few were supposed to be able to operate seaplanes like warships do?
