Yup I havent committed tomorrow one more day then I go in.

on the screenshot above you will see my fleets current postion in the bottom edge of the map they are moving west to be ready to commit in 48 hours and also cover if he turns to Tasmania.

So we need to wait and see.

Halsey is at sea fleet command of the Carriers and Somerville the battle line

I would totally disagree here, Andy. Nothing "easier" to replace aircraft and highly skilled pilots for the Japanese. There are enough examples of PBEM players producing 500 frontline aircraft per month and as I´ve mentioned earlier about my Allied pilot pool drowning in 70skilled pilots of all types, the same can be more or less true for the Japanese if PzB is also spending halve an hour on pilot training every couple of turns. Losing a CV yourselve for taking out his ac isn´t a good trade IMO. Killing his ships is as ships can´t be replaced by any side. Also harder to replace aircraft for the Allied until 44.

I´ve more or less whiped out KB´s strike aircraft in my PBEM over Sydney when they ran twice a turn into 300 fighters on Cap. This was nice, some of my ships took minor to moderate damage with none sunk. His carriers came away untouched as I didn´t launch a strike. But other than to say it was nice it won´t help me. Sure, lot´s of 80 skilled pilots gone but if my opponent is doing things right he has long replaced all of them with 70 (or better) skilled pilots.

In the long run, only sinking his ships counts IMO. I´m pretty sure that Japanese PBEM players will do the same as they did in WITP, they will outproduce the Allied with their first line aircraft until long into 44 when really big numbers of replacements arrive. So killing ships is the only way to go IMO.

True strategically but he cannot replenish his aircraft while at Sea all I need to do is trash the aircraft he has on hand and his fleet is mine.

He has no base in range to transfer aircraft to his fleet

So taking his CAG's apart even for a couple of days will win the war.

Damaged aircraft almost work as well I just need his Carriers out of the fight for 72 hours and my SCTF;'s will crucify him

Castor sorry if its not clear I am pretty certain I have a decisive superiority in SC power especially if I am hitting stationary TF's unloading it wil be a massacre

All my carriers need to achieve is take his out of the fight until they can replensih

yeah, agreed here. If your trashing his carriers´ air arm then there´s nothing stopping you from trashing his invasion TFs with your surface fleet. My statement on the aircraft vs carriers was more generelly speaking, therefore the example from my game. Even though I was able to trash KB´s aircraft, a month later it will be nearly the same as it was before I guess as there should be either enough planes/pilots in the pool or within his land based daitais. Being at the worst place for an invasion like PzB of course leads to some trouble. Can´t really see how he could think it would be a good idea to land in the North, North East, West and then South too.

Oh I aint counting my chickens yet I have barely got a Div at two of the landing sites if he keeps going south or has brought along 12 Divs i could still be in trouble.

7 or 8 I think I can slow down long enough for my reinforcments to arrive 11 or 12 would be difficult

He is probably playing the man rather than the ball trying to get me into a panicked retreat

I havent really made a stand in this game yet and fought it out to the finish - I did it v String at Ceylon but maybe he is trying to bounce me out out of Perth/Rockhampton. (If thats his objective it will probably suceed - I have had to shorten my front in the East to strengthen the south)

Overall not sure

Win lose or draw if I remove KB as a fighting force even if its at the cost of my own carriers his transports are dead meat to my SCTF's he cannot have the edge over me in SCTF's not this far from home - he cannot have the gas to keep them moving.

I understand your logic and interesting in that it is both a strategic goal- the destruction of transports and tactical - stop/crush the invasion.

Good luck

If you are going after the KB your aim should be to kill the ships, not the a/c and pilots.

The Japs get loads of restricted training sqds to put replacements in, and you can train a pilot up to 70 exp in a specific skill in a couple of months. I have already rebuilt my KB sqds several times and they did the business in my PBEM in Nov 43.........

Having said that, if I was in your position I would go for it. Even only a couple of 1000lb bomb hits could doom a CV considering he has a long trip to the nearest decent sized port.

Nope I want the aircraft if I kill his aircraft or at least neutralise them my SCTF's can harry and destroy his entire force with impunity

Birdfarms would be good dont get me wrong but emtying them of strike aircraft is my number 1 objective as it will force them to abandon the beachhead and bug out to replenish leaving my LBA and surface assets to do their work

It all comes down to he has an edge in Carrier Air but its marginal
I have an edge in in SC (I hope !!! this is all speculation but I cannot believe he has brought his battlewagons south as well)

I need to know which base he is going to hit then I can respond

The real problem is I am sitting pressing Send/Recieve every 5 minutes waiting on the turn !!!!

There is an old adage never interrupt an enemy when they are in the process of making a mistake. Maybe I let the cat out of the bag yesterday he is taking sooo long over this next turn I am out of fingernails...

He isnt good enough to twig that he should bug out .... is he ???

Or is he good enough that despite what I have there he can take me have I got it wrong Could he have the full IJN Battleline along somehow and have them fuelled and ready plus 12 + Divs

I could actually be facing a stronger SC Force....

Arrrrgghhhh I HATE waiting !!!

I am now into re guessing whats going on for the 50th time.......I am going round in circles I need beer

Actually I havent seen any mini KB Sqns yet either off Perth or off Adeialde  could  it be a double bluff and he is hitting me on the Brisbane/Sydney coast while my attention is on Adeialde

Even one Div accross my LOC at say newcastle or Bribane could cut off a full Corps in the north...

Andy,

With his multiple large TFs in the area your air strikes may be dispersed. If you are going after his air wing I would consider defencive stance with maxed cap for a day one encounter.

I think the turn is with PzB - Andy is just having kittens finding out what has happened. Need I add that I am not getting turns while he (PzB) unravels what Andy has concocted... it's all about me

Nice, I have a 20 yr old Caol Ila waiting for retirement as well as a 16 yr old Tomintoul (in case I can't wait). Just finishing a 15 yr old Glenlivet that my sister gave me for Christmas (2008).

I see that PzB has made a post but I am committed to this AAR so I can't read it. I guess I will head for the sack.

I am back and slightly tipsy so not doing the turn

He landed nowhere and withdrew.

Damn he is good.

Paranoia is writ large and I wil need to redploy my air addest tomorrow and decide whether to follow up with carriers or not.

Meaningless  com bat report below I will need to analyse it in the am.

If this was for real and he has turned back and he has the kind of force I would expect its likely that Perth is doomed.

Need to think about it when sober

Well been not able to think of much else at work this morning.

He pulled back out of range landed a small force at Ceduna

Is this for real I suspect he has really pulled back and avoided what he must have thought was a mistake.

It may have been a bluff and I will redeploy assets just in case.

Currently entraining reserves at Rockhampton will be ordered to detrain I will attempt to hold onto the city

I need to think about what next in Australia.

1. Do I pursue with my carriers and SCTF's and try to force a mid ocean battle miles from the nearest Japanese port ??
2. If no do I try to hold onto Western Australia fromt he inevitable massed landing.
3. Where is mini KB
4. What does this mean for my October Burma offensive

The urgent decision is whether I pursue or not and that one I honestly dont know about. I can force a carrier battle if I want to probably in  3 or 4 days with some support from Perth.

Its not an easy decision.

If I dont pursue I would be as well to evac and get out of western Australia as 1 or 2 Divs would be vulnerable - unless I reinforce from the force currently assembling.

Choices choices.

My gut says pursue with Carriers and SCForces but not the old sloww BB's as they will slow me down to much
Divert reinforcements to Perth maybe a full Corps leaving the other at Adeialde/PA

This is a risky strategy but every carrier I hit probably sinks this far from home....

OK my fleet is reorganised and will pursue - I will not try to hold onto Western Australia to much not enough developed AF's and to dependent on one line of communication better tet him have it after a reasonable fight then take it back later

Do you feel strong enough to commit enough at Esperance to drive him back into the sea?

He obviously want to threaten your LOC to Perth. Until he deployed towards Adelaide-Port Augusta, he was following an opportunistic strategy he may return to. I'm sure he'd be happy with a "reasonable fight" for Perth. A division here, a division there, and pretty soon you've taken some crippling losses. My guess is that if you commit to hold Perth, he'll make a judgment whether you've committed enough and govern himself accordingly. If you don't, he'll happily try to eat up your Perth-Geraldton garrisons either by the cut at Esperance or pursuit after you're kicked out of Perth. If you're going to fight a "reasonable fight" at Perth, make sure your "reasonable forces" can get back to the East.

If he thinks you commit enough to the West, the opportunistic strategy would be to come down to Rockhampton and try to take another small bite of you there, with the thought you can't be stronger in the West, secure the heart of Australia, and at the other points of contact at the same time. I think he's likely to continue to grab what's undefended, cut off anything less than a full commitment and chew it up, and back off from a sufficiently solid defense. Sooner or later, unless you win a big naval victory, you have to decide what's economy of force to hold the heart of Australia against amphibious landing, find a place to commit fully to land battle and win. An opportunistic strategy is hard to defend against since you can't identify a schwerpunkt and guard against it, because the focus is malleable.

Of course, if you manage to win a naval victory, the Esperance landing becomes quite vulnerable.
