No mate, you've done incredibly well to keep your bottle I reckon.

You now have his main offensive and defensive asset where you want it. It would take a disastrous result against his forces for the distance to his refuge locations (ports) not to tell in some way. Although, I have not seen many subs in this vacinity. That may just be the way of it, but are you planning to change this or...?

Andy, nearly every day you lose ships to IJN subs and nearly every day I seem to notice no attack on the subs. Seems like you´re not keeping an eye on ASW and IMO you´re losing by far too many ships to his subs. It freightens me to see a couple of subs being sunk near Colombo which probably is one of your major ports on the map. While I´m not able to sink my opponents subs I´m at least trying to do so and this at least results in less merchants lost.

Hey Puak nice to see you.

OK last turn I sent a small DD TF to raid Esperence and another couple of scouting DD TF's broadly in a line south of there backed by all of my subs.

Basically trying to set up a mixed SCTF and sub picket line.

The point was to try and give my carriers some eues and setting them on max react maybe catch a juicy trqansport or two if PZB has consolidated his TF's to protect his carriers.

A bit of a hail mary but you never know.

I also transferred a Marauder BG into Perth with orders to seek and destroy.

I want PZB to feel some pressure and try and not give him the time to settle and unload.

My carriers are following as well.

A/S is showing nothing moving on the East Coast.

I willonly pursue for one more turn because I am worried about mini KB.

I could get caught between two major Japanese forces if I am not carefull if he is falling back onto mini KB and the jap Surface Fleet this could all turn around - for now I probably have parity in carrier air he has the edge in pilots but mine are more than good enough to hurt him badly so he probably doesnt want a big CV Battle

If he is retiring onto mini KB (which I have no idea where it is)

The edge shifts and he may want a carrier battle - so I need to be pretty carefull

This isnt Midway where I have surprise this is a stand up, knock down brawl and while I am willing to put my 5 CV's up againt his 6 I would be unwilling to go up against mini KB as well he could have another CV, 2 CVL's and what 3 or 4 CVE's to fall back on ??

So another say 200 carrier aircraft add in the extra flight deck redundancy and that shifts the odds against me enough so I need to be carefull not to get clobbered here my best chance is gone  must not put myself in a position to take one sided losses now.

OK I think it may be all over - Alice Springs fell today which was irritating but cest la vie my troopers face a long walk back to civilisation.

As per my earlier post no contact was achieved I was unable to get a decisive contact.

My strikes are limited to range 5 by my fighters and Devastators and on those grounds plus fuel I am pulling back.

I am going to ned to replensih the fleet and at some stage retake the Line Islands and Canton and I will need my carriers for that.

This battle is over he is pulling back and I am letting him.

I could go for the jugular but at best I am even in odds for that fight and I think I can get better odds than that - it was an acceptable risk when I could have hit him while unloading or even while I was close to the Australian Ports - now that we are moving into the middle of the Ocean its just not worth it.

My primary objective has been achieved and if he lands to take Perth my secondary as well.

I need to focus on CENTPAC, Refits, Fuel and the upcoming Operation in the CBI

In another month I can get all my ships refitted have Wasp with the fleet and have every sqn in Avengers and F4F's

I call this a victory and will continue to stick to that line whatevber everyone else says !!!

Its a bit of an anticlimax but I don't need a decisive carrier battle now unless its on my terms

My Fleet is retiring to Hobart before moving off to CENTPAC for my own attack

I will leave a storng SCTF in Australian waters and I now have enough marine DB's and LB Fighters to pretty much protect my LOC.

Should I have committed maybe but I am taking it slowly and I dont have an advantage and I dont need to fight it out so I made the call to back off I sheperded him out of southern australian waters

I will delay but not try to hold on in Western Australia I dont want to get my army cut off

My next objective is to assemble a stong Armour Heavy Corps in the East with the intention of driving north to take Townsville back if he attacks in the West then I will attack in the East.

I have to get some of the initiative back in order to try and get him to commit more forces to Australia in order to allow my line clearing ops in CENTPAC and land attacks in India to suceed

Not a lot to say fromt he last turn I am now steadily redeploying assets.

One notable thing that happened is that I finally managed to sneak a fast convoy into Perth with two of the most critical units I will ever move.

Air Group HQ's sent from India

apart from the RN and a single fighter sqn the first visible sign on support from the Empire Australia has only one Air HQ and its static getting two RAF Air HQ's into Australia is the one thing that I badly needed to help my co ordination.

Other forces came as well specialist Arty regts etc etc.

One more convoy is en route with a full Armoured bde aboard this one is designed to be visible and convince PZB that I am committing to a fight in Australia.

A little bit of back and forth as I redeploy.

I pulled out of Geraldtown as I expect a landing in my rear and its a long road as I cannot strat move back to Perth so I want to get a head start as I start to compress my front.

Given what happened v Sting I am going to avoid a fight until I must and am very glad Ipulled back from chasing KB.

My next step is to put together a powerfull force to begin the reconquest of Australia from my shortened lines - I will be re organisising forces to achieve this

My goal is to keep PZB firmly focussed on Australia

Bit of a bun fight developing at Rockhampton PZB is trying to flank me as I am trying to flank him could get tasty in the area

Seriously glad that I didnt get into a toe to toe battle with KB in this game given what happened in the other one.

Looks like a weak Division thats flanking me I can deal with that size of force

The action is all around the perimeter of Rockhampton so far

My attack under 1st Australian Army will have Townsville as its objective.

It will be two Infantry Corps

(1st Australian and 1st US Amphib)

Each will have 3 Infantry Divs 2 Armoured Bns/Regts and an Aus Cav Bde on strenght

A 3rd Corps the armoured corps will assemble in secret int eh rear as my super secret assault force

III Indian Corps will have under command

255th Armoured Bde
7th Armoured Bde
3rd Aus Motor Bde
3rd Army Tank Bde
4th Armoured Bde
4 x Indpt Aus Armoured Regts
2 x Indpt US Armoured Bns
2 US Inf Regts
8th Aus Infantry Div
1 AT Regt
3 x Medium and 8 x Field Regts (mixed US, British and Australian

between the three Corps assigned to 1st Australian Army I think I can retake Townsville and maybe rout the army PZB has facing me.

When they reach full strength those CW Armoured Bdes are hard to stop

If I abandon the Perth front I can add 27th US Div and an Armoured Car Bn to the force.

In total I should be able to raise c 4,000 AV on open terrain for this fight

As soon as 1 US Amophib Corps is full assembed and organised the atack on Tonwsville will begin.

Beofre I get to deep into this offensive I want 1st Aus Corps assembled and ready
the Amphib Corps readt

The only other option I am considering is not surrendering kalgoorlie drawing in PZB's forces to the mainland at Perth then unleashing a 2 Corps Army on them in the West holding the Brisbane line with my 3rd Corps

i.e. get him to commit then try to rout him all the way back before he can dig in and get high forts West Australia is very armour and arty friendly country so thats got real possibilities  as well

Been mulling it over at work I do wonder if actually letting him take Western Australia and then taking it back might not be best.

i.e. pull back to Kalgoorlie slowly and then when he extends use my massed armour to destroy his Infantry.

If I can assemble 4 Armoured and 2 Motor Bdes plus 6 - 8 Armoured Regts/Bns thats a lot of firepower.

Back it up with 2 - 3 Inf Divs and massed Arty for the breakthrough phase and it turns into a nice little problem for PZB.

Spent some time today organising the air side of the Burma front

Broadly 3 forces are being assembled everything else will be feeders for these forces

i.e. training Sqns for pilots and rear area security.

I need to work out what my maximum sustainable force is.

225 Group under Air marshall Pierse will take the Chittagong/Akyab front.

I think I can sustain 3 Hurricane Sqns, 1 Canadian Kittyhawk Sqn, 3 Blenheim IV Sqns, 3 Hudson III Sqns, 2 Wellington Ic Sqns on this front so 12 Sqns total backed up by 2 recon flights.

221 RAF Gp at Imphal and Silchar will have less I am still working it out but it will probably be 2 Hurricane and 1 Buffalo/Mohawk Sqn, 2 Blenheim IV, 1 Hudson III and maybe 1 Blenheim I Sqn so weaker but will get priority on extra Sqns

based at Dacca will be the heavy hitters of the US's 19th BG in B17's all my remaining B17's will be sent to this BG B24's will be used in the pacific from here on out. Providing cover and AF protection for all forces will be 23rd US Fighter Group

Over time I will augment the force but the initial priority is to avoid heavy losses as my pool density is low and I need to train pilots

As soon as I am able I will be sending Lysanders, Blenheim I's, Hurrican I's Waipitis basically everything thats older will be kept out of the fight

My A list of RAF types.

Hurricane II (a,b,c)

In reserve but to be removed ASAP Mohawks and Buffalos

Hudosn III
Bolingbroke
Blenheim IV
Wellington Ic

I will use the odd Beaufort and Blenheim I if I have to but want to save them for training and or nav strike duties in the rear

Eventually I will re equip the Bombers on the Assam front with Vengeance DB's as I get 25 of them per month so they are one of my few plentifull types

Unless/until you need the squadrons, consider keeping the "to be removed ASAP" types for training squadrons. That will keep the modern types in the pools for front line squadrons. YMMV.

I loathe micro management and I am now having to do it in full measure oh joy.

Pilot training seems to be critical you just cannot leave it to the game.

Ah well.

OK planning my attack on Burma.

It will have 5 main component parts.

Eastern Army (soon to be renamed 14th Army) will attack from the Akyab front into Burma proper

It will have 4 Seperate Forces.

IV Corps will drive in a  column going straight for Bassein from Akyab with 3 Armoured Regts, an Armoured Car Regt, 18th British Div, 20th Indian Div, 6th Aus Div and 7th Aus Div and 268th Motorised Bde it will also have my Army reserve consisting of 84th and 44th Indian Bdes. 1 Medium Arty Regt and 2 Mountain Gun Regts

XV Corps will be on its right flank heading for Magwe from Akyab (so over mountain) it will consist of the all animal transport 17th Indian Div, the Burma Frontier Force Bde, and 2 Regiments of Mountain Artillery in reserve it will have 45th Indian Bde because of its lack of Heavy Arty - this force has a lot of nasty ground to cover.4

Burma Corps will attack out of Assam it will have 1st Burma Div, 2nd British Div, 26th Indian Div and its objective is Schwebo/Mandalay if I can scare it up they will have an Armoured Bde in support

5th Chinese Army will move on Myktina from Ledo with the 3 Chindit Bdes of 70th British Div in support as well as the US 31st infantry Regt

In overall theatre reserve will be 26th and 88th Indian Bdes, 22nd East African Bde, 4th USMC Regt (prepped for Moulmien or Tavoy just in case )

Thats just about everything I can get ready in time and have free of PP's as I wont cross the border with troops that are not bought free.

A complicated plan that will hopefully force PZB to cover multiple axis.

I intend to start forces moving early in October so thats how long I have to prepare - I am short of Artillery and combat engineers so I will be lookign around for them.

After my recent battle with String i will be avoiding anything that requires carrier cover.

OK been doing some checking and I come up short on the Armour front.

Because I disbanded 50th Tank and 254th Armoured Bde on day 1 to free up replacements for other units they are both returning as shells in a few days.

255th and 7th are en route to Australia

That only leaves me with 267th Armoured Bde and a selection of Indpt Armoured Regts in theatre

43rd, 44th and 45th Armoured Regts all need Stuarts and they are in short supply as they are being diverted to Australian Units and its a shared supply - at best one of those units will be ready - 3rd Carbineers already has 2 Sqns operating with Stuarts so it should be ok add to that an Indian Armoured Car Regt and a Div Recce Regt and thats it on the armour front.

My only Indpt Heavy Armour Regt is the 150th RAC with 19 Vickers Tankettes.

267th has 60 Vickers Tankettes and 32 Stuarts on arrival so it aint exactly flush with first line equipment either

Now the cupboard is not all bare I recieve about 100 Stuarts, 60 Valentine III's and 100 ish General Lee's over the next three months.

Assuming I keep back about 60 Stuarts to bring 3rd Carbieeers, 267th Armoured's Light Regt and one of the Indpt Cav Regts up to strength that still leaves me weak in the heavier tank types.

Lets say I use the 100 General Lees to convert 267th Armoured's two Heavy Regiments and bring them up to strength that will return c 60 Tankettes to the pool.

So lets say 150th RAC gets broaught up to its full strength of 52 Vickers Tankettes.

That only really allows 1 Heavy Regt of the returning 50th Tank or 254th Armoured to be brought up to strength.

Which is not a lot.....so they need to sit the fight out in which case 150th RAC would be better gettign teh Lee's and allowing the Tankettes to go to the returning Armoured Bdes to begin fleshing them out.

That means I barely meet the minimum criteria for this op.

1 Armoured Bde (267th - Stuarts and Lee's)
2 Light Armoured Regts (Stuarts)
1 Heavy Armoured Regt (Valentine III's)

add to that my Recce screen

2 x Armoured Car Regts
1 x Recce Regt

and its tight

in total I will have about 90 Vickers Tankettes, 72 Valentine III's and 108 General Lee Tanks

Don't want to be once bitten, twice bitten huh

I think you were quite unlucky in the string battle. While I don't condone wanton use of your carriers early, they are still your most powerful strike, and probably defensive, asset.
