speaking about real life, the Allied sure would have sent the carriers in, speaking about the game, I wouldn´t. Even though there were quite some nice examples of Allied carriers trashing Japanese ones lately, with F4F-4 for you and 150+ Kates for him that are worth two or three times an Allied bomber I just wouldn´t risk it. I did in late 42 with something like 600 carrier based ac (of which 350 were fighters) and KB totally trashed me with a single 500+ aircraft strike. We were able to sink a crappy Japanese carrier for the loss of something like 3 BBs, 1 CV and halve a dozen CVE plus other stuff heavily damaged. Out of something like 250 fighters on Cap, some 80 engaged and we took down around 70-80 enemy ac. Our counter strike faced 80 Zeroes, that took down 80-90 ac... go figure. Having nearly the whole USN in these TFs, flak wasn´t existing and not a factor at all, so you can´t even rely on having more and better ships with more and better flak (yes, the upgrades were all done at that time, I wasn´t fighting with 1.1 flak). Usually I would just stay away from KB if there isn´t a must to engage it. While the Allied ships may be better, the air arm of the Japanese is clearly superior IMO, Zeroes can take down Allied 1E bombers and the Japanese can send masses of Kates and nothing in your arsenal is as good or as effective as the Kate if they get through your Cap and IMO they sure will if you face a big strike. And then it´s only the weather that can save you.
