Anybody out there noticed that LBA and ACTFBA pounds infantry units into the ground? The infantry units act as if during an air raid they stand out in a clearing, look up and wave at the planes! I know there vunerablity is a function of the fortification level, but isn't that against other ground units?

Any body else see this?

I've seen losses upwards of 500 men in a single strike - but that was also when I combined all of my B-17s & B-24s to plaster Munda is preparation for an invasion.

Losses seem to be very dependent on fortification level - as I've seen heavy bombardment task forces (with 3 BBs & 6 CAs) kill less than 100 men a turn - at places like Shortlands Is.

I'd certainly be interested to hear other people's experiences.

Hi, I don't know what the actual number was but my combat report once said

"1390 men killed" after a single strike on PM (fighter sweep 100 feet 150 fighters)

I take those reports with a grain of salt and concider them pilot inflated totals. Not actually facts.

If you recon some of those places afterward (in the same turn so you see the results the next day) you see much smaller changes in the listed amount of troops than what your pilots report. Don't know if the recon is more accurate than the pilots but I assume it is. Also I'm not sure about the replacement rules and how they would affect the figures. But, hey, its no big deal. :)

I've been playing a solitare game, playing both sides. The reports are pretty accurate. I put the 144th regt. into Buna on say 6/5/42, playing the scenario that starts on 6/1/42. I checked their status on 6/20 and they have taken 50% hits on everything! I mean each item in the TO&E was 50% damaged. I had 2 B-25 squadrons, 2 B-26 and the A-24's bombing 3 to 4 days straight the taking a few days rest. I am afraid I am going to have to pull it out, back to Rabaul, Shortlands or Truk to rebuild it. The run in there with AP's to pick it up would be murder. I'd lose half of them to LBA. I've even got Zeros at Buna providing Cap, plus LRCAP from Lae and they still blow right by the CAP!

Anyway that's a lot of damge from that few aircraft, only half of them flew at any one time. Still ground units should be that susectable to air attack.

If the fortification level is low, there will be many casualties. Its murder on the ground if you have no bunkers when 144 500lb bombs come down in your general vicinity.
