Yeah. It is weird though, IIRC flak in WITP was pretty good.

I concur. The bettys and nells just don't seem to be the killers that they were in WITP. This is the way it should be. I just wish my Allied ship based flak worked. Almost a waste of time upgrading ships.

The game is a month ahead of the AAR and we had the next carrier engagement, don´t gonna tell the outcome nor any other details at the moment except the fact that I had a couple of TFs, all underwent all upgrades, we had some 65-70,000 AA value (no joke) but our flak was more than pathetic. Don´t know when VT fuses are available but if they don´t make flak at least three times deadlier then it doesn´t matter if your ships field two 1.1 inch or five dozen 40mm Bofors.

Betties, Nells, Kates and Jills are as deadly as in WITP when they actually attack your ships IMO, but if they´re land based, they usually end up in rather dispersed strikes and that´s what makes them "easy prey". You don´t want to see a hundred of them getting through your Cap as this is then exactly what has happened in our carrier engagement when the Kates killed my fleet.

really? While having probably played 90% of my WITP PBEM as Japanese I can´t really remember flak being that much of a threat, or the uber Cap was just covering my fear of flak. At least stock flak is nothing I can really remember, Nikmod flak is another thing.

Well, its better than it was in AE I recall. A lot of damaging hits at least which would throw off accuracy.

I remember a Brit CVTF fighting mini KB and the Brits with a really high flak rating (from 3 or 4 CVs in one TF, and Brit CVs pack a lot of guns), the flak saved their bacon.

yeah, having flak effect the accuracy of bombers in AE is one of the nice steps forward compared to WITP. If it works.

In WITP flak from all guns on a ship would fire at oncoming bombers.

In AE it's been changed so only guns facing the side which the bomber is attacking from fire.

So the number of guns actually firing in AE has been more than halved I imagine.

As I doubt the AA gun effect has been razzed up at all to compensate, that is probably why AA fire seems quite gutless. I think even in WITP it was probably too ineffective, so now it's half of that.

any clue when exactly the VT fuses are available in game? Guess this is the time when flak will become more dangerous, or dangerous at all.

moved a "cap trap" to Vinh to catch som enemy bombers but first the Tojos show up and bounce us... outnumbering them 4+:1 we were finally able to overwhelm them, resulting in a 1:1 losses... wonder if I should rate that as a success considering the numbers involved...

of course we weren´t lucky to also see some bombers showing up today... mmm...

while there were only 4 out of 48 bombers attacking in the morning phase, in the afternoon we launch a mega strike to attack this troop convoy without any air cover... 10 USN long range bombers show up hitting the helpless freighters hard, but 80% of the convoy is untouched even though all conditions would just be fine... no wonder our bomber crews got 99 morale as they just never attack... can´t find any more agressive leaders for them...

then one of our subs sinks a freighter that was hit by bombs earlier... means most of the troops and supplies will reach Ambon... we had intel of at least three AA units being moved to Ambon and I bet this is exactly the convoy that is bringing in this troops... we could have easily obliberated it if our bombers would launch...

now that the enemy TF reached Ambon and is under enemy fighter cover, our bombers start to attack... good idea indeed... the bombers are saved by the fact that land based radar isn´t working at all and with only 6 min pre warning most of our bombers got through... in total our bombers were hit really hard today, losing nearly halve a dozen highly skilled crews... not good, especially when you had the chance to obliberate the convoy BEFORE it reaches the base with fighter cover...

now that 40% of our bombers attack in the morning, it would have been great to see one full effort attack going in as one as this would have also resulted in a far better result I guess... at least we would have had more punch against the enemy fighters...

one of the reasons the Allied heavy bombers seem undefeatable IMO is the fact that many (if not most) fighters often don´t engage at all due to no prewarning time and being out of position... I guess this will also change with the next patch that should fix radar...

I hoped to see the enemy convoy leaving Ambon again today and deliberately kept my USN bombers on attack... the convoy didn´t leave but we launched 50% of our bombers in one attack and the numbers were big enough to deal with the enemy fighters while also scoring some more hits on the enemy freighters... nevertheless I expect most of the troops/supply reached Ambon... we pay with another two heavy bombers which is more than ok in terms of losses for us...

note that four Nells were shot down, these were on nav search and we usually take down something like up to halve a dozen each weak over our bases around Darwin that got Cap...

200 of our long range fighters have been set to LRCAP 50% today, range 8 hexes... this time the Cap trap worked, the enemy comes in without any escorts and the small number of fighters that actually engaged the enemy scored a nice number of kills... these attacks on my troops start to hurt, thank to the weather bug outside of bases... hopefully this engagement keeps the enemy from flying ground attacks but I guess it will only result in escorts for the bombers...

what was left of the enemy convoy moved out of Ambon again and so did most of the Japanese fighters... we dared to attack the base directly with heavy bombers today, meeting 20 Jacks, most of them being damaged or driven off... weather saves the Japanese again (forecast was excellent weather once more) but also our bombers suffer quite some losses today... too many to be repeated a couple of times...

guess the first big wave only suffered one bomber lost, while the follow on piece meal waves suffered four... having waves going in to attack is fine with me, but shouldn´t these waves be similar in size? Or are we talking about "lost" bombers again? Like the "lost" fighters in sweeps? Were the Allied in real life able to fly in formation?

or was it normal to see three bombers coming in alone in the end... the way it works is just too random... using waves or the so called "strike packs" is surely ok, but if you look at how these "waves" are made up makes you just wonder all the time... this has nothing to do with "waves" and I seriously doubt that so many bombers got "lost" on the way to a target all the time... strikes not locating a target at all is one thing, but having dozens of bombers/fighters getting lost on the way to target (while of course still locating the target) is just too much...

It's indeed a surprising tactic by Rainer!
- He's sacrificing large number of troops to delay your capture of Northern Oz and New Britain.
Letting you so close to the Marianas via New Guinea is a big gamble. Guess he is trying to channel your assaults in this direction.

I've never seen so many Jap ships and tankers torpedoed this early in the war before.
Will be interesting to see if I can avoid the same fate in my games

CV New York arrived at Balboa today... renamed those carriers you get as "replacements" of real life losses after US cities... next one is CV Washington in a couple of days... our CV strenght is growing steadily now and if we can keep our CV fleet intact over the next three months then we will have something like 900-1000 carrier based ac at the front... with 500-600 Hellcats due to our CVEs carrying mostly fighters as I´m also using the CVEs that come with the VR squadrons as front line carriers with their bomber squadrons being put ashore, so these CVEs carry 28 Hellcats each... I don´t like it but I just have to use CVE task forces to support my fleet carriers and even then, we don´t have much of a chance against a 500+ aircraft strike which we´ve seen before... don´t even want to think that KB has grown even bigger since then...

Will be interesting to see if I can avoid the same fate in my games

don´t know if he wants to channel my attack but it turned out to be the logical route at some point. I don´t even think about the Marianas at the moment, like I´ve mentioned earlier, all these "small" Pacific Islands have lost some of the importance they had in real life or even more so in WITP. Why fighting a bloody battle for the Marianas if you can build level 9 airfields in the Philipines? Of course, at some point you just have to take the Pacific bases but you can do that when the enemy has to pull out his troops to defend more important areas. Why defending South of Kwajalein when the enemy is knocking on the door of Borneo?

Of course my ships have to take a looong route to Australia but this isn´t a problem at all, I´ve got enough ships, even though probably 85% of them are at Sea all the time. Fuel has long been a problem and to some extent still is, I can hardly accumulate more than 150-200,000 at the front (spread out over halve a dozen bases) but this is getting better now too. I have never dropped fuel for Australia´s industry as I couldn´t even feed the USN while the merchant fleet more or less never refuelled in Australia anyway. Would the enemy have sunk two dozen tankers more, my fleet would be sitting dry most of the time. And I have not lost a lot of tankers at all, mostly these that started in the SRA but that is normal I guess. As it stands now, we are clearly aiming on "Northern" New Guinea (with the bases around Ambon), Timor and then further on towards Borneo and the Philipines. So jumping East again into the Pacific isn´t really a need at the moment and as long as we can create a "channel" for our convoys that got bases on New Guinea to the East and Timor to the West, we are also not really prone to attacks on our flanks.

So far we haven´t lost anything I can remember to raids onto my convoys or shipping lanes. Which is quite understandable though when thinking how far off the usual paths my convoys are routed. Having not used search archs for many months, it would be a more than hard task to move carriers through my lines to get into the convoy routes and if so then the carriers got a looong way back and that would be a risky task, not worth the danger IMO. And so far, it seems my opponent is thinking the same.

One of my biggest problems seems to be the fact that my opponent is far too often thinking the same as I do. This isn´t making it easier for me.

any clue when exactly the VT fuses are available in game? Guess this is the time when flak will become more dangerous, or dangerous at all.

IIRC that was taken out completely.

Coulda swore it got taken out in AE but scouring the forum finds no evidence of such so I might be wrong.

You got VT fuzes in WitP in 10/43.

can only hope so because in real life flak got a couple of times deadlier with VT fuzes and if this was taken out of the game (for a reason I don´t know and can´t imagine) then I wonder how they want to mirror this. As it is now, flak is at best an annoyance, even if you got a couple of TFs in a hex with far over 50000 AA value alltogether. And I doubt that this will go up much higher, no matter what date in the game. Shows not much effect though.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Jul 26, 43
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Brunei at 64,84

Japanese Ships
DD Isonami
DD Murakumo

Allied Ships
SS Spearfish, hits 6

SS Spearfish is located by DD Isonami

DD Isonami fails to find sub, continues to search...

DD Isonami fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub

the only thing that saves our subs from being sunk seems to be the fact that I usually strictly keep them in deep water... this one is the next one being knocked out though, 25/33...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Talaud-eilanden at 81,96

SC Ch 27, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage

heavily escorted convoy, we get a shot at a cheap escort... the subchaser is sunk, the sub takes 18/32 and is retiring...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Obi at 76,106

Japanese Ships
xAKL Ina Maru, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS S-42

xAKL Ina Maru is sighted by SS S-42
SS S-42 launches 4 torpedoes at xAKL Ina Maru

unescorted small freighter is sunk... this is one of the TFs that is going back and forth to supply the enemy´s frontline bases and these TFs so far have never been attacked by my bombers, no matter that their leaders are the most agressive ones I could find... if you use single ship TFs then they seem to be safe 99% of the time... that way the enemy won´t have much of supply problem I guess... as these single ships are spotted every time I think it would be great if something like 4 or 6 bombers would launch to attack them because I seriously doubt that the Allied (or the Japanese) of real life would just have watched 1000 ton freighters going to frontline bases, being unloaded and steaming away again without attacking them, especially if the enemy never has any fighters in the air... the attack routine seems to be the same as in WITP...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Toyohara at 125,47

Japanese Ships
xAK Akasi Maru, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage
SC CHa-10

Allied Ships
SS Seadragon

SS Seadragon launches 4 torpedoes at xAK Akasi Maru

SC CHa-10 fails to find sub, continues to search...
SC CHa-10 fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub

another freighter is hit today... two freighters probably sunk and a subchaser sunk for sure for two knocked out subs, I guess I shouldn´t complain as we´ve seen worse results...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Donggala at 68,97

Japanese Ships
DD Yamanagiri
AO Shiretoko

Allied Ships
SS Bowfin

SS Bowfin launches 6 torpedoes at DD Yamanagiri
Bowfin diving deep ....
DD Yamanagiri attacking submerged sub ....

DD Yamanagiri fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Yamanagiri fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Yamanagiri fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub

the usual duds... I´m getting more and more pissed... like I´ve said before, either the message you get isn´t correct when it says "torpedoes fail to detonate" or these are the most strangest die rolls ever as we have seen probably over 90% of the salvoes that actually HIT DD or E being reported as duds... and that sounds strange to me considering a 50% dud rate... grr... something like every third or fourth attack on a DD or E results in a hit, so if you would count them up in this AAR from 1/43 on then you can figure out how many duds we had... and this with a dud rate of 50%...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Talaud-eilanden at 81,96

Japanese Ships
AO Hayamoto
PC Nire
AO Teibo
AO Kyuko
AO Shiriya
AO Sata
AO Ondo
DD Oboro
DD Akatsuki

Allied Ships
SS Permit, hits 2

SS Permit launches 4 torpedoes at AO Hayamoto
Permit diving deep ....
DD Oboro fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Akatsuki fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Oboro fails to find sub and abandons search
DD Akatsuki fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Akatsuki attacking submerged sub ....
DD Akatsuki attacking submerged sub ....
DD Akatsuki fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub

more duds, next sub knocked out... 9/24... makes it three subs knocked out for 1 xAKL, 1 probable xAK and 1 SC... every knocked out sub usually is out of the war for 6-8 weeks, considering the long way to and from the front and the usually short repair times... so even if the Japanese don´t sink the subs, it´s well worth to damage them...

it turns out again that doing transport missions and nav search seems to be far more dangerous than doing long range bomber strikes... but with the experience of this PBEM it´s not surprising me anymore... it makes me wonder, but it doesn´t surprise me...

Thought the map could be interesting. Not really dramatic changes since the last map, Rabaul was seized and the Solomons were cleared. On New Guinea, the next tronghold on the "North Coast" is Hollandia, some 29000 troops reported, expect to perhaps meet another division but not much more, 500 av max. Darwin still is in Japanese hands but the this should change as soon as the three Marine Divs arrive. The bases West of Darwin are all Japanese but are reported empty, so a couple of para drops should be enough to take them back. The white arrows are the main lines of assault for the next months. This is no real secret, I guess Rainer is aware of this anyway.

Of course there´s also the possibility to seize some bases in the Central Pacific, just to make the enemy a bit nervous and to draw some more troops into the Central Pacific (or keep them there). We just recently had intel about a Guards div being shipped to Guam for example, so Rainer is already in the process of fortifying "back water". The possible assault lines in the Pacific are the ones in yellow.

The main problem I´ve got is the fact that you can´t do an invasion without having your troops prepped to 100% and this takes over three months, so each step forward usually is delayed by the preparation time, otherwise your troops will suffer just too many disablements during the landing, no matter if the enemy is defending the place or not.

this time we had some LRCAP over the landing crafts... this wasn´t as surprising as the BS that turned out during the replay... the engagement started with: Zero diving on Corsair! What??? Ok, let´s look at the situation... we have Zekes coming in with bombs to attack barges at 100ft and we have Corsairs 36700 ft higher... lol, that all this isn´t realistic aside, how on Earth can the game come up with "Zero diving on Corsair"? This went on for quite some time and the Corsairs were lucky to even down one of the Zekes in the end...

this also explains the oh so great and new "advice" by one of my favourite forum members who came up with the idea of "if your enemy goes higher, then you should go lower"... now 100ft is as low as you can go in the game and this then results in the 100ft fighters diving on the 36800ft fighters... lol, as much a flaw as the strato bombing in WITP that got into a "negative" alt and you achieved insane hitrates from somewhere around 40000ft... this got fixed in WITP IIRC but this thing here is more than funny... and it also once again makes me only shaking my head about a IMO stupid advice of going lower when the enemy is going higher... beating one "exploit" with another? Could be acceptable, problem only is that my favourite forum member probably thinks it wouldn´t be an exploit but one of his great "fantasy tactics". lol...

I would love to hear the "reality explanation" when the Corsairs dove down like a comet, passing the 100ft and as soon as they were at 99ft, the Zekes were then diving on them... lol... no, lol, is the wrong term here... the single Zeke that was downed was shot down after the dive... during the dive, the Zekes were unbeatable, we didn´t get a shot at them...

the Zekes jettisoned their bombs, that´s a real nice new feature that came with AE...

the usual 3x3 lost fragments of three fighter squadrons on sweep... sorry guys, but this is just a joke all the time... takes away lot of a realistic feeling IMO... things like this just didn´t happen 98% of the time in real life with 100% looking alike every time it happens...

aircraft got lost. fighters, bombers, all types... but 3 of each squadron in more or less every mission flown by our fighters? no, this did not happen. this is just plain stupid and I doubt that this was the original intention... all this "strike coordination" and "strike package" routines are nothing but the old WITP routines with a "screw up by default" built in it seems... and it´s just too consistent... yeah, 3 fighters lost in more or less every sweep we fly... and the sweeps going in more or less alone all the time... mhm...

and the main part (less 3 lost fighters) of the third squadron... sorry, but this has had to come up during beta testing too... who really thinks that this is working ok, or even well? what a fart... please remember that these P-38 squadrons are the creme de la creme of Allied land based fighters on the map... these squadrons got more aces than non aces... with hundreds of missions flown, pilots with 20 kills... they wouldn´t get "lost" in every mission you know... they WOULDN´T...

as we´ve lost a sub to air asw today, I thought it would be worth taking a look at our sub losses... it´s nearly 8/43 and the losses are.... light... out of 14 Allied subs lost in total, 2 were sunk in port on 12/7/41 and 2 were sunk by mines during the time when subs still reacted into ports with spotted minefields.

Means it leaves us with 10 subs sunk by other causes. 1 was sunk by an enemy sub, 1 by air ASW and 8 by enemy escorts using depth charges. Looking at this screen and at the date, this must be quite depressing for every Japanese player. While I have several subs knocked out every week, they usually make it home easily, being patched up in no time. It´s only the travel time that mostly hurts. But having subs sunk? A really rare event.

I really respect the enemy E escorts and probably going to fear the E types in 44 with their 11 and even higher ASW value but until then, the IJN can be considered helpless in terms of sinking our subs. How many US subs were lost in real life? Around 50 due to different causes? As it stands now, if the IJN can´t increase their ASW efforts then it gets rather hard to see 50 Allied subs being sunk. But who knows, other players report real heavy sub losses from 44 on.

Well, I noticed that Japanese airfield attacks vs heavily flaked bases usually do not hit much. I don't kill many planes but damage a lot and they don't seem to hit diddily. So in some ways it is better. Just would like to see my naval flak kill some planes. (Something they acutually did in numbers in the real deal)

the enemy bombers probably got a hit rate of 40%+ for each bomb on average while we are somewhere around 10% at best... and this with 70+ skilled crews that flew hundreds of missions

one of the rare moments that our torps actually explode when they hit an enemy DD... again, I seriously doubt that the messages about duds/misses are correct as it just doesn´t work when we have a 60%+ hit rate on DDs but the torps fail at least 9 out of 10 times...

I usually don´t like it at all to have my amphib force going in at the end of the turn but we are in a hurry... with our carriers being spotted I expect Rainer to intervene trying to smack us again... therefore we are aiming to retire after the attack transports have unloaded tomorrow... Aitape is only lightly held, shouldn´t be a problem to dislodge the enemy troops...

sorry but like herwin is just pointing it out on the forum at the moment, amphib operations really got a strange taste... we are landing with 80 preparation and once again take serious losses due to "unloading"... there is nothing at Aitape that could be seen as "resistance", heck, the enemy doesn´t even get a bombardment due to not having a real combat force here... so in fact this landing is like a maneuver but we suffer 40% of our troops being disabled.... takes us around 5-6 weeks to have these units back at 100 again... would the troops have been 100% prepped, I would have suffered perhaps 10% of these losses...

now if units are trained in amphib ops and are landing somewhere with 80 out of 100 prep against a non existing enemy, why on Earth are these units trashed all the time? This really needs serious work guys. An opposed landing should be bloody, but more or less a piece time unloading suffering such losses when you have 80 out of 100 preparation is just a wet fart. Once again, all you can do is saying "don´t invade without 100% prep"... 1 or 1.5 months training for these units landing here probably would have been easily sufficient in real life. We nearly trained three months for it and suffer horrendously...

The problem in the Design has always been that Amphibious Landings were conceptually modelled after US landings in 1945, when Marine Divisions were trained in Hawaii for months before they hit a specific very tough target. What was forgotten was that there were many other amphibious landings done (mainly by the Army) that were fairly impromptu, and were often against light or absent opposition. In those cases Landing was much much easier.

So unfortunately, ALL amphibious landings are modelled as if they are ALL Iwo Ijma...

And both sides suffer from this. (I've got pbems going for both sides, so I have experienced this.)

The 3-month training rule should give a bonus for being at 100%, not a penalty. But for now (and probably forever) we are stuck with what we have.

Anyway, thread highjacking aside - thanks for always adding good observations to your AAR.

300 bombs, 18 hit something... with such a hit rate, the IJAAF would never hit anything considering their attacks with 4 or only 2 bombs per bomber... must be the same with the laser guided 250kg bombs that Kates tend to drop... IIRC, the Allied 500lb bombs always had a higher accuracy in WITP´s db, is this still the case in AE? If so, then my 70+ skilled bomber crews must have 20 skill less than the Japanese ones and that´s something I seriously doubt because the average Allied bomber pilot probably has flown a hundred more combat missions than the Japanese ones... but what does this help if you only increase the 70 skill from 2.5 months training to probably 73 on average...

there are 90 enemy troops, we´ve landed two rgt and a bgd and suffered more than 125 combat squads disabled during the landing... this with 80 prep... tell me please that I´m not the only one to find this off... this was like unloading at a holiday beach and we suffer 1/3 of the combat squads disabled during unloading... boy oh boy...

now the more interesting happenings this turn! ALERT! As expected, KB set sail and was in position today! Even before our patrol aircraft were able to spot KB we had over a dozen Judies shot down by Cap over our carriers which meant the enemy carriers were in the area. Then we had a couple of Coronados and Catalinas spotting the enemy carriers. Thanks to not using search archs for probably nearly a year´s game time we don´t have problems spotting the enemy anymore... With our carriers being in the same spot as yesterday to cover the amphib landings both against air attacks and enemy surface combat groups, the enemy carriers were ordered to a position exactly 12 hexes off our carriers, which is the extended range of the Zeke if carrying a drop tank. It was obvious that Rainer tried to do a long range attack with drop tank equipped Zekes and Judies while staying outside of my carrier based bomber range. It was a good plan, though none of his strikes got airborne. This was amazing first, it was as surprising to read on the forum that the Japanese max range for carrier based anti shipping strikes would be 8 hexes with the Allied one being 7 hexes! Can this be confirmed by someone?

Guess Rainer was as unaware of this as I am (if that´s really how it is). I told him I would have loved to see his Zekes and Judies coming in with drop tanks at 12 hexes, the Judies carrying 250kg bombs instead of the 500kg fat boys. They would have met something like 400 Hellcats on Cap with 250 land based fighters supporting the Navy (probably with very limited success though). I´m not afraid of KB at all if the Jills aren´t flying as these are the real killers. With a Zeke/Judy only strike, I would have expected something like 150-175 Judies max. If these would have been split into two or perhaps three strikes then we would have mostly obliberated them. Now think about 250 Jills joining them and perhaps an even bigger strike than the 505 aircraft strike we suffered from in our first carrier engagement and you could say good bye to the next bunch of capitol ships. We have deliberately set our carrier groups to 0 reaction as I wanted them to stay close to my precious attack transports and also didn´t want to have a carrier clash if it wasn´t really necessary. The main task of my carriers still is to guard my fleet, it´s not hunting the enemy. As a side note, I had 72 heavy USN bombers ordered on 17 hex nav attack, most of them took off and FAILED to locate the enemy due to range or weather...

I doubt that the enemy would move closer to my major bases because even if all my carriers would perform as bad as last time, he would have to be really lucky not to suffer from my fully stacked air bases in the area. Well, last time the LBA didn´t launch at all, so never say never... the amphib force will raise anchor and will head down to Milne Bay as we´ve unloaded all troops and 50000 tons of supplies and the carriers will slowly following them, staying back two hexes to cover the rear against a (not expected) high speed move South of KB.

sorry but like herwin is just pointing it out on the forum at the moment, amphib operations really got a strange taste... we are landing with 80 preparation and once again take serious losses due to "unloading"... there is nothing at Aitape that could be seen as "resistance", heck, the enemy doesn´t even get a bombardment due to not having a real combat force here... so in fact this landing is like a maneuver but we suffer 40% of our troops being disabled.... takes us around 5-6 weeks to have these units back at 100 again... would the troops have been 100% prepped, I would have suffered perhaps 10% of these losses...

now if units are trained in amphib ops and are landing somewhere with 80 out of 100 prep against a non existing enemy, why on Earth are these units trashed all the time?

Anyway, thread highjacking aside - thanks for always adding good observations to your AAR.

can only agree. And yes, (to some extend) it goes for both sides of course, with the exception that these kind of landings like I´ve done here, usually happen for the Japanese during their "happy time" when the amphib bonus is still true and this means it´s mostly the Allied suffering from it. Believe me, you wouldn´t hear me complaining if I would do an opposed landing against some 50000 spotted enemy troops and wouldn´t have my troops sufficiently prepared. Well, you could argue of course if 80 out of 100 wouldn´t be sufficient. But 80 out of 100 when doing a landing like during a maneuver and having 125+ out of something like 350 being disabled is just too much IMO.

thanks for reading the AAR

great AAR and thanks for putting those comments of yours into the combat summary - gives me a great insight into your thoughts and reactions.....
and I know the feeling if bombers don't take off - pretty much every of my larger air raids have been cancelled due to bad weather even though most of the times it was only "partly clouded" - even had the KB cancel an attack on Auckland last turn.....those things can be really annoying but I guess it's the way it was!

good luck for your game!

today´s air losses. As you can see, over a dozen Judies were downed over our carriers, with probably two dozen messages of "Judy sigths ship". I really feared to see a bomb of the nav search Judies hitting one of the flight decks but we got away. Also one of the Catalinas was downed over KB with another one crashing on landing but that´s nothing unusual at all with probably 60% of our losses happening on transit, nav search or transport. Also a precious Coronado was downed over the enemy carriers. Considering the numbers involved, nav search is the number one kamikaze mission for Allied aircraft, followed by transport missions. Don´t know if this is reflecting history. It makes me just sick if I look at only the US PBY losses.

Paddle then scores on a tanker... if we keep up hitting tankers at that rate it could get tricky for the Japanese to keep their industry running at full speed in 44... don´t know how many they´ve got in total though and Rainer just recently stated that he took a close look at his industry and he was very satisfied about how things were going. The only downside for him is the 60000 HI hit each month for his pilot training with him having more pilots already than he will be ever able to burn with two years kamikaze attacks. Don´t know if this was propaganda or if it really is how it is.
