PS I have to take wife and DU to see The Hunger Games. But not tonight.

Could be worse. Could be the latest Twilight abomination (shudders).

This one looks somewhat more interesting than sparkling vampires fighting over a girl who has as many facial expressions as KEMs new puppy.

Are you suggesting that Kristen Stewart engages in coprophagy?

Norquist: Jeez, O'riley, don't ask so many Goddamend questions.

Godammend questions, eh? Like: "God-why do bad things happen to good people or good things happen to bad people or are you a man or what happens at the end of time or what if I want to do the deathbed confession thing but forget or die first"?

I guess that would be more like a God run-on question...

If she does, she'd still have the same expression on her face.

Cap .. I move SC's from EC to WC via the canal ... from Cristobal the 1500 endurance runs out one hex away from San Diego where they are towed in and in two days back to full operational value. I have found these 1500 endurance SC's to be great annoyances to the IJN submarines as they oftern try and fire a torp with little chance of success .. I have 16 in 4 groups of 4 running patrols in my merchant lanes around the ports ..

Work in neonatal ICU and that question becomes a lot more foggy, and and lot more serious ... Things go nothing like Grey's Anatomy or Private Practice in real life ...

Back to killing LYB's!!

Can't we just take on fuel somewheres along the way?

The SC's will make it all the way to the big ditch just fine. I gather the game assumes they stop in Key West, Galveston and Vera Cruz to refuel.

****Court of Inquiry, 10th War Patrol USS Sturgeon, Dec. 15. 1942(c), Brisbane*****

Prosecutor: Torpedoman, can you tell the court what you recall after you went to battle stations of morning of Dec. 12 of this year?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir, the Captain ordered we make ready tubes 1 and 2.

Prosecutor: Those were the tubes with the "special" <makes air quotes> torpedoes you mentioned earlier?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir.

Prosecutor: And then what happened?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Well, sir, we made ready the tubes and shortly afterward we got the order to fire 1 and 2 so we did.

Prosecutor: What do you recall next?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: We waited 28 seconds..I counted it...then we heard a terrible, terrible noise...like an explosion. <there is a collective gasp among the observers in the courtroom..sort of like this>

Observors: GASP!

Prosecutor: Had you ever heard anything like this before?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: No sir, not in all our previous patrols.

****Court of Inquiry, 10th War Patrol USS Sturgeon, Dec. 15. 1942(c), Brisbane*****

Prosecutor: Torpedoman, I'd like for you to think back about the time you took aboard the "special" torpedoes. That was on or about December 10, was it not?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir.

Prosecutor: And do you recall where it was?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir. Nobody but the Captain was allowed to go on deck but the scuttlebut is we were off Bathurst Island.

Prosecutor: Bathurst Island? Does the US Navy have a submarine base at Bathurst Island?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Well, no sir, we all just figured it musta been a tender or something.

Prosecutor: A sub tender 50 miles from the Japanese base at Darwin?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir, we were all a little worried too but it was at night.

Prosecutor: Was this standard practice?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Oh no sir, never once in all our previous patrols.

Prosecutor: Very well, torpedoman, what can you tell the court about the special torpedoes?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Well sir, they did not look like any torpedoes I ever seen....and they had funny writing.

Prosecutor: Funny writing? You said funny writing. What did it say?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Well sir, one had chalk writing right on the warhead it said "GOOD RUCK!" with an exclamation mark.

Prosecutor: Did you say "RUCK", torpedoman?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Yes sir, "R U C K". Just like that.

Prosecutor: Did you form an opinion about what that meant?

Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey: Well sir..yes...It seemed to me like Jap talk.

Observors:
GASP!

Was the need to split Torpedoman's Mate Malarkey's evidence into two separate posts (#7118 and 7119) necessitated by a break in court proceedings to bring the "Observors" back to order and regain their equilibrium after the shocking revelations, or was it due to the well known Australian legal procedures of the time of always adjourning for lunch.

In any case, I think a relevant notation in the transcript would be appropriate.

Heavy air losses. The loss of B-24's seems inflated but there were certainly many damaged planes. I took one squadron off line but we are going back today. This is war, after all.

Darwin runway damage at 29%.

I moved some F4F's to Gove to sweep over Darwin but some idiot forgot the drop tanks.

Most of the Zero losses were over PH and the Oscars over India.

Ready or not....

Reminds me of a scene from "A Fistful of Dollars". The man with no name is proving himself alternatively to the Rojos and then the Baxters, showing his skills in a test of his benefactors to the highest dollar bidder for his services.

On one foray, he walks past a very happy undertaker. The man with no name has provided him with steady business. He strides past the undertaker, removes the stub of a cigar from his mouth and says, "get three coffins ready."

After the inevitable shootout goes horribly awry for the Baxters, four of them lie dead on the ground. The man with no name passes the undertaker whilest departing the scene. "My mistake. Four coffins.", he apologizes.

Seaborne invasion of Darwin? Better get an extra few ready.

I still don't understand why you don't come in by land from Katherine and parts South. That's your low cost option here, in my opinion.

Because WE are the Eastwood character, that's why.

Besides, it's more fun. By ra way, we ARE coming in from Katherine. We have a Brit Div and about 4 Australian Armoured units 20 miles out. The idea is to trap LYB ground units and exterminate them in situ. We may also have temporary carrier superiority, their Bettys have been hammered...yada, yada, yada.

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

That's a very large amphib taskforce. 88 ships? Hope they don't see combat (or collide during unloading).

Got any minesweepers in the op OOB?

Good ruck.

I dunno. The mind boggles. Say, hypothetically, you could have 1 and 3 aircraft respectively in two of your air combat TFs. That would be a good place to start.

I only play the Japanese side in the CG, but I'm led to believe that it *is* more customary to put aircraft carriers of some sort in one's air combat TF.

From a different Eastwood movie altogether:

Harry Callahan: Well, I just work for the city, Briggs!

Lieutenant Briggs: So do I, longer than you, and I never had to take my gun out of its holster once. I'm proud of that.

Harry Callahan: Well, you're a good man, lieutenant. A good man always knows his limitations...

We do have some YMS up ahead. They will refuel at Horn Is. We have a few DMS with the Death Star that could be broken off.

Yes, 88 ships is one TF is problematic but we are a bit short on escorts. We can break up the big Darwin landing group when the DD's and CL's at Merauke join up. We can also pick up some AM's along the way to use as escorts.

The biggest threat will not be mines but the LYB surface forces (Musahshi, Yamato and at least 3 CA's), Bettys from Wyndham and Timor and the carriers.

Yes, I saw that too. I'm not sure what the problem is...probably a stack overflow for the 64 bit processor because we have so many planes.
