Inside the hangars at Moffett Field NAS, I bet.

I had to run sick call there once in early 1982, but it was filled with P-3 Orions then instead of blimps.

I think it's "Ffiona" for some odd reason.

I would have been there in the mid 80's. I didn't know they had torn the thing down until a few days ago when i looked for the big pink building on Bing. Good story about the dog. "Dobutamine and nitroprusside"

Are you sure that wasn't Truman making the inspection.

You are right about Lindburg Field. Stupid place for a major airport. Overall, I love San Diego.

Don't know about Marine/Navy nurses but I swear Air Farce nurses are predominately from Lesbos, not that there is anything wrong with that.

No turn in the inbox. I think Admirar Rord Fabertong was that Robber Baron guy with the stovepipe hat in the Olympic opening ceremonies, so he was busy.

Tee hee.

I blame the LYB's for stirring up the Colonial pot in the 20th

I credit the Queen for being a good sport and jumping out of the helicopter like that. Next thing you know, she will be doing the slow-jam on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Nope, that is one of the blimp hangars in Tustin. In 1943 it was probably a NAS. Later it was a MCAS and they kept helos in there.

In one of those hangers they have a community exercise area. On one of those PBS programs they showed the rope-climbing area. There was still a guy - then in his 70s - who climbed the ropes there several times a week as he had in training. The ropes were about an inch or inch and half thick and were hung from the ceiling. He climbed all the way to the top faster than most adults walk to the mail box.

Well, the Navy nurses I worked with were mainly Ensign to full LT-types, and they were most definitely not from Lesbos.

You know, among the elites, television is regarded as an opium for the unwashed, but that completely discounts the cultural wisdom and nuance that one can acquire with the cathode ray tube or it's technological follow-ons.

The turn is in. Unfortuantely, it is the same turn as last time. Generally, we try to advance the ball forward a couple of yards on every down.

Dood, I just thought of something. When we do the attack on Sumatra we should have the Jap carriers come out into the Indian Ocean and then get intercepted by Repulse and freakin' Prince of Wales in the daylight. How cool would that be? That would be epic! Only thing is I forget which Jap carriers we claimed were sunk already.

Stalker Girl and I went sailing Sunday..sort of..so anyway, the instructor has familiarized us with the boat and we get to a quiet area where we need to turn so he challenges SG to take the helm and describes the steps to take..

Ready?

Yeah, I think so.

OK, we switch. you come back here and take the helm. When you are ready call "helm's alee" and pull the tiller toward you. I'll handle the sails.

<they switch>

OK, I'm ready. "HELM'S ALEE!"

<the bow starts to come around..."Damn, I thought, that was pretty confident sounding" I duck under the boom. My job is to spot the paddleboarders and make sure we don't pull a trireme on one. We cross over to a new tack and I think "Nice, now straigthen out"...but we don't. We are still turning. I look back and SG is pinned over on one side with both hands on the boom. She hasn't moved and the tiller is still hard over. We're still turning. I try not to laugh. Here comes the boom again. The instructor ducks under the boom and takes over the helm but we have done a 360.

He didn't let her try again after that. hehehehehehe. Sailing is fun.

Sounds like a real boom-doggle!
I learned sailing when I was 16 [in Sea Cadets]. After a one-trip lesson in a two-man boat they turned it over to the cadets and away we went. About half the neophytes flipped the boat and had to be towed in. I was not in that half but running with the water lapping at your gunnels is both exhilarating and disconcerting! One of life's great experiences.

*************Jan. 26, 1943(3c)***********

Lautem: The great bulk of the Marine Regt and all of the Marine Def Bn are ashore at Lautem. Intel rerport shows perhaps 4:1 aircraft losses in favor of the P-40's last turn over Lautem. Some LYB's have either walked or driven in from Dili. I doubt they will be enough to dislodge a reinforced regiment of Marines with 100% prep. The AP named after one our most forgettable Presidents, Rutherfor B. Hayes, is still afloat. The AP's can pull back today and let the smaller vessels unload cargo. P-40's will be up in the air again today.

Koepang: 65% runway damage reported. I will send Washington back to bombard. She should arrive the night of 27/28. More B-24 raids.

Namlea: Reinforcments arrive today by amphibious TF. Air covber from the carriers and from P-40's at the airfield.

Derby: In allied hands now. RAAF aviation support will fly in from Bathurst to support some fighters and recon aircraft.

"Shut up, woman!" Maybe I thought that instead of yelled it.

Doing a bit of a shuffle in India, getting ready for an assault on Ramree Island after Bengay. Meanwhile a few incursions into western Burma to keep JJ interested there.
