From what I remember, the feeling was mutual. That story was pretty funny - about the Mayan asking how old SG was and saying, "Huh? That's all? She looks so much older!"

You can't exactly blame the Mayan though. I mean SG *did* try to climb into bed with her. Furthermore, SG ordered removal of the shower massage head-so she did kind of foment discord in the ranks.

BHO? I'm sure he'd just remind you that you haven't actually *done* anything or *created* anything in your line of work. Everything you are and everything you've 'made' has been in large part due to a gift from the state. You're welcome.

Also, the private sector is 'doing just fine', so quit yer bellyachin'.

witpqs! Careful with the OPSEC! SG occasionally looks over CM's shoulder to ensure a quality war is being fought! If she knew about the age comment she would demand to know what Cap's response was ...

Certainly they won't try that again. We have some of the best commanders in the USMC there. Evidently, the LYB's are no slouches either. They are eventually doomed. They can surrender but don't bet on it.

The B-24's from Darwin attack Kendari. No CAP. The newer model B-24 is arriving and one squadron of B-17E's is converting. Just in time. All the heavy squadrons are at about 50-70%. The B-17's at Saumlaki are on a shoestring because it still level 4 only.

Afternoon Air attack on Kendari , at 70,106

Pit...........bed

scab lifter........infirmary, sick bay?

paracetamol.......cheaper but more dangerous form of acetaminophen you get under nationalized health care

since Nelson was a boy....a rong time

a make and mend.............either a bizarre sex act or making one's pit

Pinkies...........communication geeks? A sissy drink with grapefruit juice?

turn out..........get your ass out of bed

scran.....a meal, I'm going with breakfrast

Chicken of a raft..........any available sea bird on toast, poprobably covered with salty and msg-laden gravy.

Elephant's footprints.......a pancake like thing? Beats me

Kandy House......HQ, with new attractive secretary and well stocked wine cellar

Cap,

Bravo Zulu - a splendid attempt at translation

If pushed the Pinkies would blame a Greenie, who would most likely spin a dit about the White Mafia.

LAS,

Babies Heads - No. I prefer my Nuts and Bolts with an Awning, or maybe a Dockyard Tortoise (the Janners where I work love those)

When I was a baby tiff I did and SMP on the Galatea in the sheds in Guz. I was on boats and batts and used to love a bimble down to the civvie canteen in the forenoon for an oggie and a cider.

Galatea

baby tiff....junior rate?

sheds....yards, for repairs

Guz...a port, GIbraltar?

boats and batts.....a duty or section of some type

civvie canteen......a dining establishment where you don't get crap for free

oggie....evidently a food item, egg seems too easy so probably not. Not to be confused with Oggin

cider.....probably a fruit juice which has undergone a magical transformation by the lowly yeast

forenoon.......late morning, but don't use this expression unless you are in a production of a Dickens novel. People will think you are on drugs.

***********Pranning, Feb. 8, 1943(c)************

Ternate/Sulawese: Ternate is a level 2.12 airfield and building fast. The place is crawling with SeaBees and assorted construction engineers. II Fighter Command HQ and 2 base support units landing today. A demi-squadron of Marine Corsairs and full squadrons of Marine SBD's and TBF's arrive today to augment the two squadrons of P-40's. A PBY patrol squadron is operating there and has spotted many red splotches to the East and SW of Mindanao. Some are beating feet but others appear to be surface combat taffys 2 days out. I think JJ has spotted the withdrawal of the CV's and is willing to risk surface forces again.

3rd PIR is being assembled at Namlea for a drop on Sidate (SW of Manado) in a few days. A Bn of M-10's is on it's way from Darwin by landing craft and is about 4-5 days out. The idea is for the 503rd to seize the dot hex before the landing to prevent disruption of the armor. The same landing craft then will begin to transport a regiment of Marines. In this way, units can be landed on Sulawese without risk to major vessels because the only air cover will be LRCAP from Ternate. If JJ sends his combat infantry from Manado then we land behind them at Manado itself.

Sorong: 1st Marine Regt finishes unloading today. A Bn on cambat Engineers 1st 1-2 d out. Another regiment starts loading at Darwin today. An AVD will park at one of the friendly dot hexes near Sorong to extend the PBY search East and NE

That is indeed HMS Galate, F18. I was 18 when I joined her as an Artificer Appentice (baby tiff). The sheds are the covered dry docks at Plymouth (Guz). An oggie is a cornish pastie.

Boats and batts - the section responsible for maintaining the ships boats and all the batteries on board, ie emergency lighting, head mounted lights etc.

Here's the sheds at Guz:

Perhaps someone should tell her that the presence of a star does not mean this is the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She appears to be trying to leave an imprint...

******************VII Bomber Command HQ, Darwin, Feb. 8, 1943(c)********************

General Dreedle: <looking at map> Cathcart, what is this little crooked "X" thing over New Guinea...<looks more closley> Hollandia, whatever that is.

Lt. Col Cathcart: Why that's the Jap field at Hollandia sir, two runways, 5000 and 6000 ft, 15-20 reventments, fuel storage tanks, ordnance bunkers, enclosed hangars. Quite nice, really.

General Dreedle: Yes, but this "X" thing wasn't here before.

Lt. Col Cathcart: Well, that usually means the Japs put some planes there.

General Dreedle: Planes? How did we find out? Do we have recon over there?

Lt. Col Cathcart:Not sure, sir. It just seems to happen some times.

General Dreedle: Happen? Happen? Cathcart, where did you come from?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Indianapolis, sir.

General Dreedle: No, your unit.

Lt. Col Cathcart: 90th Bombardment Squadron, medium, sir.

General Dreedle: Hmmm. How did you get here Cathcart?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Oh, the 90th was destroyed at Noumea, sir.

General Dreedle: No, not that, I mean how did you GET here?

Lt. Col Cathcart: I'm not sure I understand, sir?

General Dreedle: By what means of conveyance, son?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Oh, life raft, sir. I paddled to Fiji, sir.

General Dreedle: Fiji?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Yes, sir, Fiji.

General Dreedle: And the rest of the squadron?

Lt. Col Cathcart: MIA, sir.

General Dreedle: All of 'em?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Yes sir.

General Dreedle: Did that just happen, too?

Lt. Col Cathcart: Yes sir, I guess it did.

General Dreedle: Cathcart, I don't trust you. Get me some recon over Hollandville or whatever it's called.

Lt. Col Cathcart: <crestfallen> Yes sir.....

No turn yet AND the NFL hasn't started for the day.

Finished reading Neptune's Inferno *****spoiler alert*******. We won.

The chapter about the Battle of Savo Island was hard to read. They weren't at full readiness. Crappy assumptions. Crappy recon reports. Crappy battle plan. Mistrust of radar. Recon aircraft and aviation fuel sitting on the fantail. Uggh.

Kirishima vs. the crusiers. Awesome fight. A cavalry charge in the dark.

Didn't know the details of the Sullivan brothers or Juneau. Uggh. Almost as bad as Hood.
