Observations about the appearance of Kaga:

1) When Rord Admirar Fabertong let slip that "Kaga was ready" he wasn't bluffing.

2) Kaga is operating singly in her task force. This is odd behavior and implies either that JJ have split their carriers or the others are still in the shop.

3) Unloading at Sangi and probably Dadjangas will have to stop for a bit.

4) Night bombardment mission planned by Washington at Davao will have to wait.

5) Air drop on Cotabato can probably still go ahead but I will have to bring in reinforcements by air.

I have been on this planet for a loooong time and I still can't tell. How exactly do you tell when a "blonde chick" is "being nice" vs moving in on the alpha female?

"Blonde chicks" are never 'being nice' to old codgers, Cap'n. Never. Hope this helps.

Mindanao: Using the twin ENIAC 2000 (with DOS 1.0), we predicted a LYB attack on Dadjangas. The twin ENIAC was right.

Burn all dead undead, eh? Doesn't that make them double dead? Or is that like a double negative and therefore they're alive?

Burning 'em alive, are we? One could be led to believe that you're at war with 'em or something. That's bad for business, mate.

Then they show up at 01:24 just like the ENIAC 2000 predicted. Just as predicted. It's not rearry PT boat conditions...visibility is good. ENIAC can predict the weather but we did not buy the weather modification rider.

So...here is the deal...a group of landing craft were ordered to disembark and then "disband to port". The disembarking part went OK but apparently the "Disband to Port" phase comes AFTER the "Get Blown to Smithereens Phase".

I should have just set them to another base. Should we ask for a do-over? Oh well, at least the troops got ashore. We salute the fungible! Hip, Hip, Hoorah! Evidently Myoko wasn't hurt very badry.

A reinforced company of the hard working 503rd takes Jolo! Huzzah! Cotobato had a garrison of 2,000 LYB's so we bypassed it. The guy in charge won't be happy to hear that the AI thinks he is inferior to a generic LYB commander.

Sangi is probably about 5 days out from a level 1 strip. Dadjangas had some port damage so the engineers are fixing that first before buidling the runway. This is more stuff the ENIAC 2000 can't predict. I wonder if we caused the damage at Dadjangas early in the war?

Ground combat at Jolo (74,90)

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 220 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 7

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Allied assault odds: 4 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Jolo !!!

Combat modifiers
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-)

Assaulting units:

I can't understand why JJ aren't going after Dadjangas from the air. Or Sangi for that matter. If we are lucky there may be some left over suppries at Jolo. In that case, we can fly in a couple of squadrons of P-40's and an Air Force HQ (which are highly air transportable and have 50 aviation support points).

We have most of one US Army infantry Bn aboard APD's at Terante. If we can spot Kaga they can be sent to Jolo to hold the place for a while.

The troops already ashore on Sulawese have started their march on Manado, which will become a key base when captured.

I forgot to mention that Jolo is a level 2 airfield so we can also fly in SBD's if there is supply. It is also a long drive from Palau to Jolo so surface attacks will likely be spotted. JJ can base surface combatants at Manila if they have resources there, but it will take them a while to organize it. Jolo is also within air drop reach of Northern Borneo which will allow air recon of the South China Sea. They need to do something.

Yes, they do. Allowing you access to the myriad base possibilities in the central Philipines and North Borneo will bring about their demise in the Western DEI quickly.

Here's a naughty thought; how about we scrap Yorker and throw everything at the PI?

The vector of your advance through the DEI and into the Philipines will be as a knife pointed at their vitals. I like North Borneo and Puerto Princessa as near term goals. For longer term goals: what about Hainan island, NE Luzon or some of the other islands SW of Luzon (e.g., Mindoro)?

The initial historical landings in the Northern Philipines were not on Luzon, but on largely undefended Mindoro, immediately south of Luzon near the mouth of Manila bay. We were able to build this airbase quickly and effectively put an air umbrella over Luzon for our landings there.

Question for you AFB lot: Can B-24s and B-17s reach Japan from Luzon bases?

ETA: The closest Luzon base to Kyushu is 26 hexes. Too far for B-24s or B-17s available in mid-1943. Still, you could close off the DEI traffic through the straits of Luzon-no mean feat.
