HMS Caradoc in her WWII configuration.

I hate to say it but she is not the most attractive warship to sail the seas.

+1 on the TV news pestering the grieving families and co-workers. They get no comfort from people they don't know telling them how sorry they are.

I know Obama cares but his visit has the appearance of a photo-op because he does not know any of those people personally. He should stay in Washington and work on getting policy agreements on gun education and at least minimal control of access.
Key thing is to teach kids ways to resolve conflicts without using guns. Right now popular culture [TV/movies/games/internet] seems to teach that using a gun is the way to gain control of your life/difficult situation. Sorry to hijack and preach but this stuff needs to be dealt with!

We should be careful. Racist stereotypes and juvenile generalizations are old hat for the AAR and are well tolerated but the 2nd Ammendment will get the juices flowing.

Agreed. Don't you think you're riding the ragged edge of disaster by dissing on HMS Caradoc's "rugged" good looks too?

Wasn't Caradoc one of the old cruisers converted to an AA cruiser? That would give her guns [4" IIR] much less punch against surface ships. Better check!

I tend to not agree. After he first went to Aurora, CO, he was rather committed to visiting this tragedy. And someone for the sake of an argument could say that Obama felt staying in Washington was more important.

I agree with everyone on the TV. I only found out Obama was in CT while I was looking for Packers game on TV.

Sorry for kidnapping the AAR Cap. Wont happen again (or at least for a few weeks.)

Too much emotionally and politically charged subject matter. What happened is terrible, but talking about it here won't help and will get the mods angry

Since it doesn't seem that the actual *war* is too forthcoming, how about a webcomic making fun of pokemon?

From XKCD, the bestest nerd webcomic around

I figure there's enough doctor/gamers here to find it amusing/terrifying.

Eh...MRSA...what do we care? Methicillin hasn't even been invented yet in 1943(c) and even when it is you know who will probably sell it all on the black market and put baking soda in the bottles.

Of course, "I have nothing to give but my sebum!" just wouldn't ring true with the Brits. Although it *would* be a memorable speech too. Churchill was a genius-how were we to know that blood would ring true in place of some other bodily fluid / paste?

Maybe we need to shorten our lines a bit. We are setting ourselves up for the "classic pincer counterattack".

Who can identify the eye of the squid?

What do y'all think I should get Admiral Lord Sprior for Christmas? Is there a US Navy version of Jackspeak?

A Northumberland wrestling move how-to book?

I suppose it is pretty obvious I took the day off and have no turn?

Got another expert witness solicitiation from a case back East. A plaintiff's atty. I think I am on a Rolodex somewhere. The outcome was unfortunate but it seemed to me the defendants perfomed well under difficult circumstances. One of those things where it is obvious to everyone with the retrospectoscope. I declined. My guess is they will have some difficulty finding someone to take their "side" but perhaps I am being uncharacteristically uncynical (if that is a word).

The ill-formed two-tentacled Banda Sea squid, thought only to survive on account of its humongous size and the fact that it previously 'et Australia. Scientists at Gojira Institute of Tokyo speculate that it wants revenge for centuries of harvesting ika.

I see a huge problem Cap' in trying to convert the health industry's culture and climate into a "Just Culture" without tort reform. [For the layman http://webmm.ahrq.gov/perspective.aspx?perspectiveID=49 ] I truly believe as long as there is an industry that has a sole purpose of redistributing resources from one sector of the economy to another based on failures in the system and the fact that "stuff" happends -- the true root causes of safety and quality in helathcare cannot meaningfully be addressed. The added costs are enormous ....

First, there are two such industries; the other being politics, sometimes confused with prostitution (which on the other hand is honest work). Second, you confuse "sole purpose" with the method. The sole purpose is wealth/power transference to themselves, while the method is purported transference to others.

Well I was focused specifically on the Malpractice Industry BTW) If you want to read a great story of someone that rather than using their tragedy as a senseless means to "get back" while making lawyers rich, but in fact changed the world .. It is the Josie King Story. [ http://www.josieking.org/ ] These parents simply asked John Hopkins to set up a foundation leading paitent safety and try and prevent the next disaster ... If you read the story and not cry, get angry, and self-reflect .. then more than likely you're a zombie .. I have a summary blog article here .. http://ipep.arizona.edu/blog/interprofessional_collaboration_prevent_and_address_medical_errors Anyway this tragedy has led to nationwide Pediatric Rapid Response Teams (PRRT). The significance being that the money went to preventing the errors that led to this child's death rather than some lawyers back account .. Ok back to Cap' and the PI's ...
