Cagayan and environs: Massively annoying Kuma comes in from the NW, somehow manages to avoid the picket ships and subs on the likely ingress routes and catches a troop convoy before they reach Cagayan. D'oh! I think this was 21st Marine Regt but I'm not sure. I toyed with the idea of sedning them back to Cotobato to unload but decided the port was too small. The taffy was only 80 miles from Cagayan at nightfall. They were specifically told not to stop to watch the flying fish. D'oh! Night Time Surface Combat, near Cagayan at 79,88, Range 1,000 Yards Japanese Ships CL Kuma Allied Ships SC-739, Shell hits 1 SC-749, Shell hits 3, on fire xAP John C. Calhoun, Shell hits 3, on fire xAP John Hart, Shell hits 10, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk Allied ground losses: 652 casualties reported Squads: 23 destroyed, 12 disabled Non Combat: 60 destroyed, 32 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Guns lost 55 (38 destroyed, 17 disabled) Vehicles lost 10 (10 destroyed, 0 disabled) Kuma proceeds to Cagayan. This part was anticipated. She meets Oakland. Seems like we could have finsihed her here. How could Oakland NOT have radar at this point? Did I miss an upgrade? Somebody sold the vacuum tubes? Gaak. Night Time Surface Combat, near Cagayan at 79,89, Range 1,000 Yards Japanese Ships CL Kuma, Shell hits 6 Allied Ships CLAA Oakland, Shell hits 1 DD Lansdowne DD Woodworth DD Perkins DD Thracian Reduced visibility due to Rain with 35% moonlight Maximum visibility in Rain and 35% moonlight: 1,000 yards Range closes to 23,000 yards... Then Kuma turns tail and runs into one of the pickets on her egress. She also somehow manages to avoid the attention of the 30 SBD's at Cagayan. Probably the rain. Day Time Surface Combat, near Cebu at 80,87, Range 8,000 Yards Japanese Ships CL Kuma Allied Ships AM Geelong, Shell hits 4, and is sunk Reduced visibility due to Rain Damned annoying. Spotted her on the way in, put up defenses and she STILL managed to slip through. JJ discovered Crisco.
