Ran into a new one today

Unsolicited call: "Hello, my name is Pahnda (that's really what he said). I work for your Internet Service Provider (note generic, name not supplied). Our server is sending messages that you have a virus. Our Virus Cleaner needs to see your computer immediately. Can I have your credit card number so we can schedule the visit as soon as possible".

Another day of invasion interruptis. I'm not sure I have the strength.

So...I'm sitting in my office yesterday trying to do my 214 electronic tasks...and they are STILL going up. New tasks appear faster than I can do them. A yong guy with a clipboard is going around the suite looking in the rooms. I assume he is one of the IT hardware guys so I try to get him to fix something....

Earnest young man: Oh no, I'm with the "Zero Waste" project. I see you have two bins, one standard and one recycle.

Me: Well, actually, this one is for shredding.

Earnest young man: Oh no, we recycle it after we shred it?

Me: Seems like a lot of work.

Earnest young man: Well zero waste, you know. <said with genuine enthusiasm>

Me: <I am tempted to check the back of his neck and see if he has a data port> So let me get this straight. The ZERO WASTE project has you drive around to the various sites and inventory the trash cans?

Earnest young man: We call them "bins" now.

Me: Ah, how progressive!

Yep.

the Grand Slam would reach near-supersonic speed, approaching 320 m/s, and penetrate deep underground, with the explosion causing a camouflet (cavern) and shifting the ground to undermine a target's foundation.

Thats like Al Gore flying around the world in a G5 touting the virtures of reducing our carbon footprint, and that we are all going to die of global warming .. Its the intent not the results that are important ..

You used 'camouflet' in a sentence!

They're Knights of the Round Table.
They dance whene'er they're able.
They do routines and chorus scenes
With footwork impeccable.
They use words like camouflet.
They drink gin, whiskey and sherry I bet.

They're Knights of the Round Table.
They're forces are formidable,
But many times they're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable.

In war they're tough and able,
Quite indefatigable.
Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable.
It's a busy life when you use the word camouflet

I have to push the pram a lot.

That is a lot better than the Cap using it in a sentinece "Yes were are going to create a small camouflet under your child's skin" ..

Anyone using a word like "camouflet" is just blowing smoke.

Here is the more important question. Can you create a camouflet with a trebouchet?

And if you camouflet a trebouchet, does that mean it's hidden from view?

Only if you create the camouflet with a trebouchet slinging a big wooden trojan rabbitt ....

You can't reach supersonic speed with a trebouchet, unless you attach a rocket assist package to the projectile. Then it might be possible

What if you built a trebouchet that was large enough? It could be disassembled and air transported by swallows.

Of course, first we have to get a turn back. How much can you overbuild a nominal level 4 airfield?

Pretend I didnt read the manual.

A 0(4) airfield can be built up to a 7(4) or three levels higher than the figure in the paren's (X) .. level 7 airfields are magical because that is what is needed to support the B-29's if this game gets that far [Given North PI is under assault ] Not quite as Magical as level 9 airfields but something of note as you count hexes to the Home Islands ..

Both airfield and port can be over-built by 3 levels (so a 4 could build to a 7). Construction gets progressively more difficult (takes more engineer-time and therefore supplies) as a port or airfield gets larger. IIRC there is another parameter that appears in the editor (scenario files) concerning the difficulty of building at the site in question. Presumably (but I don't know) the terrain affects the difficulty of building, and the 'difficulty' parameter influences the effort required to build. AFAIK that difficulty parameter is not displayed in-game.

Miyako-jima is clear terrain with unlimited stacking.

Ishigaki is "Wd", whatever that means.

Maybe "Watery Deathrap" or "Walt Disney (Resort)"

Note that I found the "terrain" key on my own.

Wonder what they have at Taihoku on NE Formosa.

Interesting! I checked The scenario editor and I did not see any parameters on any of the locations besides where troops begin the game for a particular scenario ...Maybe this information is a part of the 'pwhex' file? I used an old editor and did not find any parameters indicating "difficulty of build" .. I would assume terrain alters the code somehow but that would be speculating ..

Anyway the Allies get those huge engineering units and they build stuff like lightning anyway

OK I looked it up in the Sceanrio 2 starting OOB (first time I ever looked at the Japanese side).

Ishigaki and Taihoku have static fortresses. The one at Taihoku has some pretty nasty 28 cm guns.

Maybe just Batan Is. (existing level 2) then Iriomote and Miyako-jima.

We would need something of level 5 or greater to suppress the airfields on Formosa (perhaps Altimonan on Luzon)
