See 9.4 and 9.4.1 of the manual. If less av support than required, it can reduce by 25% the number of level bomber offensive missions flown. Airfield service damage impacts on pilot morale.

Repairing damaged planes and planes undergoing (routine) maintenance (click on 'planes' on the air group display and look at the 'fatigue' of each airplane - when it's too high the plane goes down for maintenance). Nothing to do with mission prep.

So the prevailing opinion is, therefore, that a raid of B-17's from a level four airfield with a 52% maint. damage level will take off, but it would not be optimal for a sustained campaign?

I am prepared to let a few B-17's get jungle rot if they can put a dent in the airfield and airframes at New Ullapool.

Now I can't find it but I think the B17 was build with AL 2024. It will corrode but I don't think it will rot

The seat cushions get jungle rot from the unbathed crew.

**********May 8*************

Northern Oz: The Japs made a brief effort to cover the 5th Div with LRCAP from Wyndham and they did down a few Hudsons but the airfield is non-operational about 70% of the time due to the B-17 raids from Darwin. 5th Div is taking about 50-100 casualties every day from aerial bombardment. More LYB's coming in to Wyndham. They are like cockroaches, if you see one there are hundreds crawling around in the mangrove swamps. I think supply is getting through from Alice Springs which is super news. Lord Admiral Sprior cleared the road from NRD to Katherine.

I'd say it's about time to bring in the primadonna MacArthur. I think this is going to be the main Jap effort in Oz. The IJN is too busy trying to take New Scotland to mount a landing in Eastern Oz or Perth

********Vickers machine gun position, 45 m E of Nooknebah, NW Aus, May 8***********

Sargeant: <steam rises from the gun as the sargeant removes the cap from the coolant reservoir> Come on lads! The Vickers is overheating. I need someone to urinate into the reservoir before the Japs attack again! <A queue of soldiers forms immmediately. They may have trouble getting to a standing position but they lack not in motivation. Every one has grey hair. Every one is a veteran of the Gallipoli. They all know what a machine gun can do. The first soldier unbuttons his trousers and tries mightily. His face turns red. A few drops make it into the reservoir>

Well done lad! Next! <the sargeant turns to the runner and says quietly> This is going to take forever. Better get someone up here from the prison furlough platoon. <the runner makes a groaning sound as he gets to a standing postion and totters off, his feet barely shuffling forward in time to prevent a pratfall>

The B-17 raid from New Edinburgh went quite well. 33 of 43 available 17's participated. The fighter sweeps were inept but the 17's did well agaisnt a small CAP.

The Japs are indeed landing at Norfolk with both carrier groups in support. The Kiwi aviation unit there is completely fatigued. It is almost useless to put aircraft there for now. Everything that can fly is moving out.

Air losses below. The Betty losses are satisfying. Of course, the LYB's are going to be angry so New Edinburgh is going to catch Hell. I am leaving the B-17's there to go another day. Fighter supply is pitiable.

Betty losses on the ground are far less damaging than those in the air as crews usually survive the former.

Indeed, but this attack is no longer about the strategic goal of attritting Jap airpower. This is about the operational goal of reducing the short-term ability of New Ullapool to stage anti-shipping attacks as a prelude to a relief mission to New Edinburgh or even a naval bombardment of New Ullapool. Next job....defeat the kido Butai. What could go wrong?

My God will do nicely! Two of those giants (leeches???) could drain a man in a day. Whereever those reside is the last place on Earth I visit. However, I understand that lawyers, Homeowner Assn busibodies and other reptilian persons keep these as pets.

No, check out the fanboy sigs thread in the main AE forum.

I did have a tarantula try to steal my car a few weeks ago. After a couple weeks (and feeding him a stink bug which I'm sure tasted awful) I released him with a stern warning. (Madre de dios their fangs are big!)

We don't see any giant leeches around here. They all hold elected office.

Negative, unless you sent me that email about bad breath during Ramamdan.

I was afraid you were rounded up by Scotland Yard.

I will check my spam folder but I dont think I changed any settings, at least not knowingly.

Looks like we crossed emails then. Do you want me to build on your last turn?

I'm with Humphrey Bogart. I hate leeches.

Something, probably coyotes, tried to dig up Jerry. I think all that cilantro I fed him was too much for the coyotes. There was just a little fur..then they gave up. Hard to like coyotes too.

Might have been my neighbor trying to get evidence for the HOA too. I am pretty sure there is some rule about burying pets.

That's so culturally insensitive. You should have a 'bully beef' folder for him.

Not only that, because of the mal-coordination FUBAR, he had to redo his part 3 turns in a row .....and I told him there were no Jap fighters operating out of Wyndham......and, as a consequence, 2 collector's edition Vildabeest, hand autographed by Orville wright, were lost.

We'd be miffed but only get miffed when we run out of tea. So right now we're slightly hurt.

I figured it out, Cap. Being afraid to invade North-East Queensland directly for breeding stock of the Norfolk Island Hibiscus, they're going to the source at Norfolk Island.

Consider what was posted on "davesgarden.com":
