Finally, as a squadron nears its withdrawal date, I keep expecting the withdraw option to light up, but it just does not. I end up "disbanding" the unit. Does this satisfy the withdrawal requirement?

No, disbanding and withdrawing are 2 seperate functions. If a unit is due to withdraw then you should withdraw it.

Sprior,

Aren't there some units that the "withdraw" button is not active? In these cases, I believe that the 'disband' feature serves the same purpose. This may have been corrected with a recent patch, but this used to be the case.

I will allow the Mayans may have been good at astronomical notions of time...they just seem to have trouble with the European 24 hr night/day thing.

* I don't recall "ir" being a reflexive verb, but it seems to be used with reflexive pronouns for emphasis...sort of like "let's get out of here" instead of "we are leaving".

The LYB's are building up Wyndham airfield and now have grown too big for their little britches and are now attacking Darwin by air.

Wyndham is level 2 with 59 fighters (Oscars and Zeroes). Darwin is level four. They have come at us 3 days in a row with highly effective Zero sweeps, decimating the P-40 squadron there. Today we sent up 7 P-38's piloted by the best pilots of the squadron and they kicked Zero butt. The Sallys did get through, destroying one B-17 on the ground, but then the B-17's hit back without escort, shaking off the CAP of Oscars and denting the runway to the tune of 22%.

The LYB's have given up covering their troops near Katherine with LRCAP so the Allied air attacks are getting more effective. 32nd ID (US) is halfway to Alice Springs. It will take them a few weeks to reach the battle scene.

Hey, I hear the Feds will ultimately compromise and pay us time and a half for overtime once we work more than our baseline requirement of 168 hours a week!

And where did you hear $24/hr? I heard $12/hr would be the best they could do "in order to save Medicare for all Americans."

Ah, the EMR---I feel your pain. Makes me far slower and less efficient by duplicating everything I already do, but putting in the infrastructure provides gigabucks in new sales to our infant, struggling IT industry.

Our administrators love the EMR: after all, since they currently regard MD time as a limitless, largely untapped and completely free resource (at least while we're paid on salary, not by the hour), putting the EMR in place is no skin off their backsides. Once they have to pay us by the hour like everyone else, though, I reckon they will change their minds in a hurry.

Santos Mio! Ayudame, Nuestra Senora!

BTW, good job at Wyndham---Gotta love those fork-tailed devils...

My dearest Spri;

What do you think about a quick landing at Norfolk Is to gain access to the airfield and begin an airlift by C-47 of troops from New Scotland? As it would be on an emergency basis, there could be very little troop prep. Do you estimate that 2 regiments might carry the day?

Also of note is the absence of Kaga and her CVL for some time. Any thoughts on their next move?

I have detached 4 USN DD's toward Sydney to act as an escort for the RN CV there. It seems the Admiralty wants some destroyers back.

Swimmingly;

Naw. They'll just outsource their MD needs to the Cubans. If I hear one more word about their fantastic health care program and their free universal health care I'm going to...well, como se dice hematemesis en espanol?

Fleet Admiral Mandrake,
Hula Club,
Friendly Islands

My Dear Mandy,

It seems such a shame that somewhere as English sounding as Norfolk Island is in the hands of beastly foreigners (present company excepted). Do what you think is necessary to restore the island to its rightful owners. I suspect a couple of regiments should be enought to shift it.

As for those carriers I think they've slunk off to safer pastures for now. I suspect that Tonga might be next on their shopping list but it will a month or two for them to recuperate and rebuild after their bloody nose at New Edinburgh.

I hope you don't mind if I pass on the opportunity to invest in your venture on Norfolk Island. There is a perfectly good RN CV at Sydney should you require her services in this venture.

Yours

Lord High, etc, etc.

Wow. Livin' large on Oahu. Conspicious consumption. Don't most common folk usually drink Gin or Vodka martinis?

ETA: Question re: the RN CV: Since when did they start having 'perfectly good' ones? Is this a ship class that I'm unfamiliar with?

Hey, the extravagant use of ten botanicals (including "licquorice"..whatever that is) in a time of war display a type of reckless insouciance that is very attractive to women. Plus, the bottles look cool.

After all, why have a Goddmaned empire if you can't have some Goddamned botanicals in your Goddamned cocktail? That is what I always say. Also, I have the Pacific Fleet credit card.

Intel Officer: Probably, unless he is on the radio.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: I suppose you are going to tell me the wrong guy is going to be on the radio too.

Intel Officer: Almost certainly unless he answers the door......

You only just noticed?

Actually, I thought you guys were going to break those LYBs at Noumea, and then it would be "Home to you in '42!"

I still think you were jobbed by some gameyness and a bad electronic die roll, but, as you say, "C'est la guerre."

Keep up the fine work and AAR!

Marine Commandant, Balboa:...look, all I want to know is the of the Jap spy at the canal.

Intel Officer: Rong.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: What do you mean, wrong? I was asking you. What is his name?

Intel Officer: No, Rong.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: Doh! Look. Suppose I were to go down to the little dry cleaners and knock on the door. Who would answer the door?

Intel Officer: No, that would be Rong.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: I'm just asking you!

Intel Officer: And I'm just telling you! It would be Rong.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: And if I knocked twice?

Intel Officer: Rong.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: So, if I went down there and knocked three times it would be wrong, right?

Intel Officer: Exactly! That's what I am trying to tell you.

Marine Commandant, Balboa: OK, suppose I go down there an ring the doorbell. Is the wrong guy going to answer the door?

Intel Officer: Probably, unless he is on the radio.

My worst fears realized! Gotta love it, Cap!

Yes, for all you know you could have a Rong guy in Ceyron too, though I think the cover story may not hold up so well in Aden. Do they even have dry creaners there? Hell, for all we know, they could know every time we get a naval reinforcement.

But then there is China....phhht...good ruck with that.

******************May 29, 1942***************

New Scotland: 72,000 angry LYB's drank deeply of the Emperor-Brand Kool-Aide and attacked Geiger's men at La Foa. They were repulsed with about 5500 casulaties and about 2000 KIA. This would be a good thing but it consumed supply and now nearly all units there are in the red. It was a serious samckdown for the Japs. I don't think they can attack again for 4-5 d unless they have fresh troops.

A plan to try to take Norfolk Island back from the Asiatics and put some C-47's there is in motion but it will likely be too late. I think we can have 3 regiments, a BB for bombardment and a cruiser force for surface security as well as 2 USN and 1 RN carrier for CAP ready to land in 6 days. Figure 2 days to capture the island and it means no C-47 flights in for over a week. The PBY's are doing a good job. Much of the undisrupted and PBY portable portion of 2nd Marine Regt is out now. The PBY's will now work on the Army regiments, leaving 8th Marine and the tanks as a rearguard. Suprisingly, some of the 75 mm pack howitzers are getting out. I called off the Hornet evac of wildcats. There are only 6 operational F4F's at La Foa. It is not worth the risk to the carrier TF. This is a political problem because a Royal Navy F4F depleted squadron may be lost. Nobody tell Lord Admiral Sprior.

New Rorke's Drift: The RAAF Beaufighters at Darwin were deflowered in the most bestial of fashion, losing 6 airframes. The Sallys got through again and torched another B-17 on the ground. The B-17's hit back at Wyndham but took heavy fire and one was lost on the return flight. A fresh squadron of B-17E's has been sent from Tahiti to Oz. The 6 P-38's are ordered to sweep again over Wyndham and the operational B-17's will go back. We still need to contend the airspace over Darwin.

Fleet Admiral Mandrake: <samples a macadamia nut encrusted mahi mahi croquette while "reading" a 1935 edition of a National Geographic article titled, "Tonga, the Other Polynesia". Turns page to reveal a picture of topless young, smiling Tongan women paddling an outrigger canoe> HOOTCHIE MAMA! Somebody get my personal PBY ready. We are going on an inspection tour of Allied defences on Tonga!
