Wow,
In the photo "This end toward the enemy", I can see that the piece was a hastily converted Smoothbore to Rifled gun. It looks like they took a rifled cylinder, shoved it down the bore, and fired shot out to seal it in place.

Figures it would be Pea Ridge. I played that game ages ago. From SPI games and based on the TSS system. Wilsons Creek was another game in the series.

Those 2D paper maps will get you all the time.

Pea Ridge is a nice place to visit. No development around it like so many others. Out of the way though. If you do make it this way, make sure you drive the 5 hours or so and go to Shiloh as well. And give me a call, I will buy drinks ( Memphis is an hour or so from Shiloh ).

Great pictures Mark VII . It's been about 20 years since I have visited that battlefield but I remember it being well preserved and easy to find.

Thank you Stuman. I'll keep that in mind. One or these years I'll have to make a trip and visit the Midwest and South and do the usual touristy stuff-Nashville, Memphis...also been told Branson Missouri is another nice place to see.

My dad also mentioned the fishing in Louisiana. He loved it.

Its always interesting to see other places. I've been fortunate to live in a bunch of places and visit even more places and the South is one of the places I have to see in my lifetime.

NW Arkansas is really only 5 hours from Corinth Mississippi? Would have thought it was more than that....

I spent a day visiting Shiloh when I lived in Memphis. I have to say that it was one of the best preserved and "visitor friendly" battlefields I've ever seen.

I think part of it is because of the sheer amount of action that took place there. With the battle flowing over the park two times over two days, it is a lot of fun to follow along with each day's movements.

Shiloh is very overgrown, just like it was during the actual battle.  Only the areas around the Peach Orchard and sunken road, and the Union encampment areas, were lacking undergrowth.  Everything else was dense vegetation and helped break up the Confederate assaults as much as anything.  My wife and I visited it many years ago and were the only ones there all day.

It's about 5 hours from the Fayetteville, Ark area to Memphis. Shiloh battlefield is then about an hour from Memphis. And I am serious, if anyone heads this way please let me know

And likewise if you come to the Nashville area I can give you the same Stones River and Battle of Franklin tours I gave RaverDave and Capt Ed. There is also a nice Batte of Nashville fort and a excellent WWII memorial.
