Having a Cv sunk, fragments of planes diverted to land bases,
I thought that if they are at a base with supply, they will grow back to their original size,
but seems their staying as fragments even through the main groups are "destroyed" due to carrier sunk

I have all groups fragments in one place so theres no fragments
elsewhere on map..

Arent they supoosed turn into regular groups?

It makes no sense that they can't.

base has 20K +supply.

I think ship air group fragments (when ship is destroyed) are basically destroyed as well. The game allows you to disband or withdraw the fragments to save the actual hardware and pilots that survived the sinking. I think you can buy the airgroup back on the destroyed airgroup screen. Not sure on the last part.

Air groups fragments don't swap with parents like LCUs.
Once the parent is killed, the fragments are just that..fragments.

Note that you can buy back air units from sunk carriers with PPs. Go to the destroyed units screen and click (forget if it's left or right)

takes a year, though.

Theres no such screen

Unless talking about clicking on the destroyed planes listed in the OOB for group, well thats unclickable.

The screen really does exist, you just haven't found it yet.

Go to aircraft losses, at the bottom you will find a button to the destroyed air groups list.

Humm I'll look when my next turn comes back

Beggers the question through... if a sunk US CV is replaced... does it come back with the former destroyed air groups... or different?

If former groups and one has however bought the airgroups and gotten em back before the carrier...

With Japanese I can possiable see that it might be of benefit through... as you don't get new CV's
(USA only does)  in place of sunk ones... so buying the air groups gives you more groups and
they might be used on remaining carriers too...  one could possiable rotate  such on/off a CV
allowing on land one set of groups to refresh and retrain up...while 2nd group goes on Cv out to sea..

Sunk US CVs are no longer respawned, so this question is moot. The Lexington II, Yorktown II and Hornet II are already in the reinforcement queue...

You don't Get them if the older ones are still around...
if their sunk then you do...

Only question would be if they have own different air groups.

If the Yorktowns still there... Yorktown II shouldn't appear...instead at that date it comes out as another named Essex... You still get that Essex but as a different named Cv

They never started say Yorktown II after it was sunk... nope... an essex was already being built and they named new essex for the Sunk ones...

But this is about CV plane fragments and If an allied player buys back the destroyed plane group
say that was on yorktown... would the in queue Yorktown II have come out with those destroyed groups rebuilt...

Or wholly different groups..

if different groups then an allied could spend the PP's to in the year gain back
the destroyed group to re-combine with its fragment and so have extra land based SBD/F4F's
that in a pinch could be put on a Cv with depleted groups you would transfer to base and ones on base transfered to the Cv..

You will still get the Yorktown II if the original Yorktown has never been sunk. The developers decided that the ships should arrive on the historical dates (if you've chosen that reinforcement option) with the names that the carried upon commission. However, if you have not lost the Yorktown, you do have the option to rename the carrier to whatever name you want (this may only be an option while she is in the reinforcement queue, I forget the actual details - I've never yet made it that far in the game).

The respawn option is available in the editor. All the standard scenarios you get with the game have respawn turned off though.
You get all the Essex Class carriers that the US historically got. The ones named after a sunk carrier (Yorktown II etc.) therefore come automatically even if Yorktown, Hornet and and Wasp are still available. If you check the reinforcement list and click on , for example, the Yorktown II, you will notice that its name is yellow. You can modify this name to whatever you like.

You ought to be able to change the name of ships even after they are launched/commissioned.
There was once an escort carrier called 'Midway' that had taken part in several actions before it was hastily renamed so that they could call one of the new advanced Essex-types 'Midway' (and in doing so, create a whole new CV sub-class).
Oh,  just for the record the escort carrier, which up until now had survived several nasty engagements with nary a scratch, was renamed 'St Lo' after the place in Normandy which had just been captured by US paratroopers just after the D-Day invasion.
At the St Lo's next action, which just happend to be Leyte Gulf in October '44,  it had a very nasty and fatal encounter with a Kamikaze...

Of course, there is a train of thought which says you should never, ever change the name of a ship,  even whilst it's on the slipway...
