He was eaten by a troll. And you wonder why I hate trolls and point them out on every possible occasion.

There's a green button people. Use it.

He walked into the target reticle when the smart bomb was already on its way. It relates to what Napoleon said (in French): "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

He is mad because he did nothing. He believe in this game and worked so hard to make it work. There are ugly people whou say ugly things in a ugly way and all jwe did was quote shakespear to help a friend. And matrix banned him just like the ugly person. He talks in a hard way but he is not mean other people are mean and ugly. And when matrix banns him for saying simple truth without pointing a finger what does that tell the rest of us who works on this game.

I am mad too because matrix wants the development people to speak like wimps and everybody else can be as ugly as they want to be and that is wrong. I am going to maybe get banned for saying this but this is okay. If they want to bandon the truth then okay. I only post to help my friend so I do not care what anybody does to me.

He was only banned on the 2nd and this is only the 6th (or 7th depending on where you live). His time in the "hole" isn't up. Let's hope he comes back and just avoids the obvious tries at trying to drag him into the mine fields.

The Problem with the AE forums IMO are deeper, JWE got ambushed by another negative poster who does not understand what the scope of WITP is. The real problem and here I agree with Osterhaut is with Matrix. ELF , Terminus , Don , AndyMac and Don are basically being attacked by a small minority of posters who do not know what this game is and the depth it has. This IMO has been a systematic attack which started circa 30-40 days ago with the first attack on Don. Matrix has been closing its eyes regarding certain posters who have attacked the DEVS indirectly by attacking the game.

I used to lurk on the WITP forums and one thing I remember in that forum was civilised and opinions were respected even if they were crazy but they where respected. Terminus used to answer questions with 1 word and used to irritate a lot of people but he was funny and always to the point I miss him but he was one of the people who did the naval OOBs which are probavly the most accurate in any game I have played till now he got attacked and then banned by matrix result he has quit AE and the forum and now no more downfall scenario. Elf created the Air combat system of AI and was extremely knowledgeble of air fighting he got attacked because of a couple of inconsistencies in the air combat system and he finished quitting because nobody supported him. Don and JWE they are probably the 2 people that can give you any data on any merchant marine ships that was involved in the pacific war down probably to the smallest boat they got attacked as well and Don quit and now he is doing the babes Mod and not any future additions to the game. JWE posted 1 comment in a thread and got banned for 1 week and now he is quitting because a player who does not know how to play the game. Andymac who writes the scripts for the scenarios we play and an extremely patient and helpful person is starting to lose his patience because of repeated attacks at the game he is probably the next developer who will quit.

What is wrong here ?                Matrix you should support your Developers even if you will lose a sale or the long term effects will be people not buying the game because of lack of interest in your games. You will always have people complaining but you should see it is a percentage of the total sales of your games, Put up a poll in the forum and ask the players of the game what they think of AE Dev team and the game and you will see that the great majority of people support them and wish them back in these forums and want these negative posters out of this forum. Please Matrix do not let AE be another Harpoon 3 where the game and the forum imploded because of infighting the same thing is happening here if you do not start to support the developers.

JWE , Don, Terminus and ELF Please remember that the vast majority support you and thank you for the game you helped create and really want you back to these forums. Please all of you reconsider your positions.

Now i am going back to play this superb game which has kept me addicted from its launch and ruined my social life, Soon I will start the invasion of Japan.

I don't post much anymore - nor go to the forum as often as I used to, so I missed the context of this entire thread (I couldn't find the thread that John got suspended for) -

But as an old hand poster on this forum, and also a member of the AE Team - all I can say is you must not have seen the VERY emotional, and personal - posts and debates of 4 or more years ago!

I want to offer this. I think the best way to handle Trolls is to ignore them. They are seeking the response... any response. Anyone who has raised kids, especially teenagers should be able to relate to this. If they get no response from bad behavior then bad behavior is not rewarded.

Some useful things to remember

  • Disagreement is not disprespect.
  • Do not have a distorted sense of entitlement about the forum. Matrix provides the space for a community of common interest to exist. It is not a place to be a demanding customer.
  • Do not respond to Trolls.
  • Exercise emotional control when reading a Troll.
  • The Troll is the one with the problem, don't let it become yours.
  • If the Troll upsets you, hit the green button.
  • If you think the Troll has crossed the line, send a note to Joe.
  • If you must respond to a Troll, do not quote him. The people who hit the green button don't want to read him.

Even though I have spent a significant portion of my adult life adopting, raising, and mentoring troubled teens, I still have to remind myself of these things.

I hope that JWE has a change of heart at the end of his ban and comes back. I value his knowledge and his wit.

The best advice around. Just use the green button and move on. Also remember that there are trolls and then there are TROLLS; some delight in getting people banned. Being banned themselves doesn't bother them since they can register under a new name. Ignoring them is the only way to beat them.

I've been saying this for fracking YEARS, pompack. Unfortunately, human nature seems to incite us to defend what we love, with often unforeseen consequences.

Heck, I got a 3 month ban for chastising a Matrix god for banning Terminus when he rightfully castigated a troll for his uncivility. It happens. We just have to learn from it.

We are but cannon-fodder in the never ending struggle against the trolls, and if we lose our little digital lives for a while. That is OK, because it is for a good ideal, and the fight is a good fight, as we are on the side of right.

OK, I read that thread. It sure went off the rails.

But I got to say, maybe the really inflammatory stuff got cut out? I don't see any posts by JWE after the warning?

Well . . . it does seem to set up an environment where it is too easy to score points on some of the devs that have made this the sort of complex game I think most of us want.

Maybe if the diplomatic types took a stronger line in defense of the complexity, and yes, even the chrome; to begin with . . . or even every once in a while . . .

I know I get a little tired of reading some of the endless trashing of the game. If the squeaky wheel gets the grease, I worry that the next patch will make the game simpler, dumber, and chrome free.

We are not interested in seeing endless debate about the action that occured. We considered the evidence and made what we thought was the best decision based on the evidence.

Read the forum rules and follow them.
