It has been a very long time since I last laid eyes on this game. This morning I went through what’s left of my old archives. I found a few lost gems from the Talonsoft line, but I can not find Danger Forward or Desert Rats. I could swear I had at least one of these at one time, but maybe I was confused and it was just the demo(s).

I am really only interested in brushing up on the manual, but I’m not sure where to get that documentation now. The game has been out of print for quite some time, and I don’t think the manual has been indexed in any internet database.

Maybe I can get lucky browsing at some abandon-ware site, but I doubt it. I guess I can wait so it’s not the end of the world if I can’t refresh over it now.

I google searched for images Combat Command 2 and came up with a couple of sites that claimed free downloads of the game. I didn't bother to try. Give it a shot.

Hmm, I searched around, looks like I'm out of luck for now.  That program for download was most likely a demo for one of the variants.  Actually, their demo for Desert Rats really could have had an improvement.  I toyed around a bit today and while some things have come back to me, I also noticed if you do absolutely nothing during your phases, except for mandatory retreats, you still win with a decisive victory vs the AI.

Hopefully, this new enhanced version does some tweaks to that (hint hint).

google game manual. There are a couple of sites with old game manuals in pdf. I found a UK version of Rising Sun a couple of years ago. I have the paper manual but prefer pdf.

Strange, I always prefer to have a hard-copy manual instead of PDF.  Anyhow, too bad you didn't ask me earlier, as I am sure I have Rising Sun in my collection here.

Manual may mean:
Instructions
Instruction manual (gaming)
Online help
Unix manual - known as "man pages"
User guide or owners manual.
Manual (music) - a keyboard, as for an organ
Manual (band)
A manual is a special kind of wheelie.
Freestyle skateboarding tricks (balancing on two wheels)
Manual transmission
Done by hand, or not using machinery or electronics to fulfil a function

The original manuals were very good, explained how everything was calculated. I have some interest in it but not sure if it will be worth forking out extra dollars for an upgrade since I still have both Danger Foward and desert Rats. WITE wiped out my gaming budget for awhile!

I assume the game comes with a manual similar to the Danger Forward and Desert Rats manual?? It really explained all of the math behind everything. Also editor is user friendly so maybe there will be many more scenarios. I found the biggest issue with the game was lack of opponents.
It would be nice if previous owners could pay a small upgrade price to get the Matrix Version.

For new players, this compilation is excellent for $35. I also have previous games and played them extensively. I just didn't want to move all those counters in the larger scenarios, but the small ones were compelling.

There is a manual. I'm wading through it little by little (and have some questions I'll post in another thread).

It does come with an 108 pg PDF Manual, with combat tables and a fair amount of detail on how everything is resolved.

I like choices. If I want to spend $20, that's my choice and not anyone else's responsibility.

I bought the physical copy, and I suppose you have a problem with that?

Physical copy = a 640MB CD or a 4.7GB DVD with only 25MB of data in it.  Sorry I just have to laugh at this .

Anyway I read the PDF manual and it's enough to get me going.
Game is quite good.  No experience with the previous titles.

Just PRINTED out the tutorial. Since the manual recommends you read it several times, I will PRINT out the rest of the manual. I don't like reading of the computer, nor do I like flipping back and forth between the tutorial and the game.

I too will print them out.

I want a manual to be free, be in A4 size and to be in colour.

Further, when finished I want to throw away the manual and in a few years time print it out again.

When you buy a manual, it has none of those features.

Hi guys,

As Andrew posted, there is a good manual, though it is in PDF E-Book rather than printed form. Sabre1, I do have some good news for you though. We're planning to do more printed manuals going forward.

Regards,

- Erik

About three years ago, Matrix said something similar!
In fact, IIRC, it was that ALL boxed games would have a hard copy manual.
In fact, they even said GG's War in the East would have a hard copy ... until it arrived with about 1/5th hard, 4/5ths soft.
Ah well ...

Thanks Erik, I do appreciate it.

That is why I buy from Matrix, at least they listen, and sometimes fix problems for us old farts, that still like things printed on paper.

Anyone have a single page list of hot keys? I didn't seem them listed in the manual.

Thanks.

Actually, I think that was about five years ago and for a year, every game had a printed manual, but we did move away from that. We're not going back to every game having a printed manual, but we plan to do more printed manuals than we have in the last couple of years.

It has a printed manual that's about 1/3rd the size of the PDF manual and covers the entire game interface as well as having some quick reference charts.

Regards,

- Erik

Is there a list of hotkeys somewhere? I can't find one in the manual.

Under the Reports pop menu there's a list of hotkeys for reports but is there a list somewhere here I can copy and paste in a text document?

... yes I pulled the trigger and am getting familiar with it now

I have a post elsewhere but a hot key list should be a requirement in manuals plus a full description of the information on the map counters.

It wouldn't be the first game that I had to make my own hotkeys list for.

How about taking a screenshot of the report and saving it as something you could view in Paint or a pdf?

Yes, I may have to make my own. I was kind of fishing for Hotkeys I didn't already know. I think I know most of them.

I'm getting used to the UI. I've been playing Guadalcanal but I'm going to have to step it up to a medium sized scenario. Not enough action in that one for my liking.

The hot-keys are generally listed in the GUI itself, and I think at least most of them are listed in the manual. I guess what you guys mean is a short quick-list somewhere.

I may get around tomorrow to making a VISUAL quick-list for my top hot-keys I use to speed things up.
