Well as Im not really good in english in terms that Im not native english speaker I really don't understand what it means. As it seems to be attached to many messages of compassion perhaps it has something to do with sharing the loss?

Hello... As has been stated, Semper Fidelis means "always faithful." Please note that it is a Latin phrase, so one studying English would not normally run across it. It is the official motto for the U.S.M.C. Gung Ho is Chinese for "work together," and is the unofficial motto of the U.S.M.C. Hope this helps... Intresting to know that.Btw I'm not too good on those punctuations in english cuz they differ so much from my native language and I tended to be quite busy with other thoughts when we were being teached grammar(good looking girls on classes)
Still I wrote E(equals to 9 in 10 number system in wich 4 is worst and 10 is best) from english on my graduation examination so I think Im pretty good in english after all in terms of High School as we know it(some differences)here in Finland. But even still I have very much to learn... P.S. And getting better all the time as I hang around on these forums

It means forever faithful. A subtle but not insignificant difference from always. Tomo

Hehe, I wrote A (= 5) on my graduation examination. Very good for me . I have now been active member of many discussion forums since January (when I got ADSL), and I will bet that my english letter/number in high school would be now much better. Perhaps C (= 7) .

I'm surprised at you guys Everyone knows the technically accurate meaning, but I am surprised no one has quoted the meaning as used in the field and not in the classroom. Semper Fi is something you say to a fellow marine when expressing sympathy. Such as semper fi mac when the dude is in line for some hot joe and the joe runs out just before he gets any. Anyone care to take a stab at what Gung Ho means next.

Semper Fi = After the Airborne. At least that's what they told us in the 82nd.

Eventhough Semper Fidelis means "Always Faithful,"
it is also used as a motivational saying to inspire and to urge on when the going gets tough.
So, to our troops in the Mideast, I say SEMPER FI!
