I have no idea how to refit ships. I mean I know but this doesnt work.
First I make my own frigate I name it Szybki Kot.
Really basic project. Fast and with basic pew pew beam weopn.
I have starting frigate but I cant refit this "Start" Frigate to my own frigate.
Ok scraping 'start' ship and build my own.

Hm, this works fine for me. Could you upload a save? Not sure if this could be an issue with the ship design or something else. Did you mark the older design as obsolete?

quote:

Now I adwance in some techs and want to upgrade some components.
I push upgrade button but this give me a new design with new name. I like my own names. Also I cant see to what design my ship is uprading and upgrade make automaticly my design obsolete.

That's what the Upgrade button does, it just gives you a new design of the same class with the latest components. What I normally do is "Copy as New", modify it as desired and then mark the old one as obsolete.

quote:

I try copy and edit my "Szybki Kot" design but this didnt work. I mean I did it but I can refit my frigates only to obsolete 'start' ship design.
WTF?

Not sure, this works fine for me.

quote:

Also this look like you can have only one design for one class ships. 1 destroyer, 1 escort etc. You can have more but only the newest can be produced becoze rest are atuo made obsolete and for some reasons checking not obsolete button dont work properly for me. Dont know what happend. Myeby I am moron and I do something wrong. Prove me that I am moron.

That's not true actually, you can have multiple designs per type. Per the default "show latest design" setting you will only see the latest one, but you can check that off and see all of them and you can build any design that is not obsolete.

As far as marking it as obsolete, you just check the box and click the save button, as far as I recall.

quote:

Also about interface. there should be something like minimize panels. example I want check some place for resources and using planar something I do this but checking another places i must go again by all this panels. Some minors others things.

Not sure I understood this, sorry, can you elaborate?

[qutoe]Also game dont give enough feedback. If your ships station bases are destroyed you dont get any info. Only when they attacked. Also there should be notification if you plan bulid ship or base and yu dont have enough resources and you dont have any sources. I wonder why I can builit my frgates. Lack of 2 resources. I send my ships to build mine but suprise mine also need these resources. Funny :).

I think there's actually a unique issue here related to the Zenox and the fact that the game at start doesn't tend to give you Dilithium as a resource, which is what the unique Zenox shield component needs. That's not typical for most races and building a dilithium mining station at the very start with Zenox is thus a good idea. As far as more feedback on resource shortages, absolutely agree we could add more there. I don't find it hard as an experienced player but I can see how it can be hard to figure out what's going on when you're just getting started.

quote:

Also no music and I must check in my system my native language to English USA. This suck. No music. This sucks double.

So far, you are the only customer reporting no music, so I have to assume this is an issue somehow specific to your system. The regional format issue is our fault, should not have slipped by and will be fixed quickly. You can leave your language on your normal setting, by the way, it's just the format that matters (i.e. using commas instead of decimal points).

Regards,

- Erik

Ashbery76 reported no music also after using the editor:

While I can't claim to have played the game a lot just yet, I did already install the game. I took a lazy look at the manual (I'm too tired right now to read it through), but once I took the game for a test drive and saw the Galactopedia, I was absolutely boggled by the cheer scale of the game! I knew it was a huge game, but by the Gods, it's huge! I'm loving it already. Finally a game that has extensive depth, combined to a slick, informative interface.

I have this feeling that once I actually play the game (sometime tomorrow), I will turn into a true zealot instead of a raving fanboy.

Even though it's a RTS this maybe the 4X game that supplants my MoO3! (Yes I Love MoO3 and I mod it too!)

It blows Armada out of the water. And Armada is a decent Space game (if not a bit shallow).

Once I learn the ins and outs I can't wait to turn Auto off and really get my "micro" hands dirty!

Yes. I am Polish. And damn proud one. Even if I am stupid bitching lazy moron. But hey nobody is perfect.

And yes game is much better than armada. Armada is crap. Simply. On first look this game can be better than SotS(but SotS focus more on tactical battles) but SOtS is difrent. But DW is much better on firts look than GAlCiv.
And music is good.

BTW If you can look on design ships in Space Empire 4 you can see some good resolves here. You can look on 5 to see how you can broke what is good.
Cheers.

Were you using the default save location or had you "saved as" to a folder of your choice? If you do the latter, you can put them wherever you want and it will remember that setting.

You can also search your computer for *.dwg files.

Strenge thing. When I choose save where my save are?
I only see saves which I save using save as.
These is propably isssue why I lost my last save.

And I post my last save. Actually I want but these is more than 20mega. How to fast upload this things here?

Problem is
I have few 'Szybki Kot' frigates. They are size 200 fast anti piracy vessels. They are marked as obsolete. Ships I have arent counted in design window.
I want to retrofit them to "Szybki Kot B" frigates. B version have better engines and additional weopons but is also 200 size and frigate. I have 2 these ships and they are not marked as obsolete.
But I can retrofit them to 'Sorocoba" frigate which is your basic first frigate type. Size 140.
Not make any sense to me.
Look at this and prove me that is working right.

Having got the game, it's blowing me away. I'm only just out of the tutorials, but it get's so many things right. Things that others games should get right but so often don't - like a proper solar system with orbiting planets (they actually orbit!) and moons, and a proper galaxy. At last a space 4X that actually feels like the designer knew a little about astronomy. It just helps me immerse in the game.

What he said; that's a very refreshing change. Still very early days, but despite a few rough edges I'm loving this one; there is is just so much you can DO with the game. The continuous time approach ("RTS" really should be applied to Distant Worlds in any context) works very well and actually feels rather more natural than in games like the Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron series which to me always felt a bit like perfectly respectable turn-based games somebody bolted 'real time' onto just so they would sell better. Make no mistake, though, this is a genuine '4X', albeit it a unique take on that genre, not a 4X/RTS hybrid like Sins.

I haven't a clue what I'm doing but I am enjoying not having a clue what I'm doing! There is almost too much going on at times.
My only gripe was the price. For the phy+dig=£42.00
I do wonder if this may put some potential customers off.

There is a lot to like in Distant Worlds. I haven't played the game much (just two hours) but I find it really good, full of fresh ideas. I like the division between private and public sector (as it minimizes micromanagement and is more realistic). the orbiting planets, the ai and many more features.
I also believe there's room for improvement.
I would really like to see more diplomatic options in a future expansion - maybe a non-agression pact, a share supply treaty, tariffs between unfriedly empires(a step before trade sanctions) if it's not too much trouble. By the way a question to the developers : was the game developed in c#? Anyway really good job!

Isn't the game saving to default "Windows documents" locations ? That is "My Documents/..etc" in english, but more like "Mieski Dokumenstki" in Polish , so if you save with English language and change it later the game won't find the saves anymore - maybe ??

Once you "Save As" it looks in that location for all future saves/loads as it assumes you want to use that folder. You should still be able to find older saves by searching. I believe they are under the Application Data folder tree by default.

Please see the post on where to upload save files in the tech support forum, we have a FTP location setup for this.

For those of you not getting music, if you are not running Windows Media Player 11, you may need to upgrade to resolve a bug in previous versions that could be causing this.

I'm really enjoying playing the game. It's challenging, because it is Macro not Micro-management, which is new to me, and that is what I want - challenges. There is enough complexity and freedom of how to play the game that it is going to take an hour or two to work out the best way to manage the interface and conduct operations. For me, the best way to learn was to non have pirates at first, and only 1 opponent for the first practice game or two, and leave automation on except for something I wanted to experiment with. Once you figure out how to locate and order around ships things got easier for me. Oh, and economically, be careful how many colony ships (or other ships) you build as it can tank your economy. Just build them one or two at a time when you still have a small empire. Avoid negative cash.

Thanks Lord Karg, we should hopefully have the rough edges that showed up once it got to the public squared away very quickly.
