Armada 2526 is a good game, if more traditional - I understand that folks may prefer DW, but Armada 2526 is a good game. If you want to criticize it, criticize constructively. What makes it too simple or predictable to you (calling it Tic Tac Toe suggest you think it's overly simple, overly predictable and not replayable)? I've found that each race in Armada 2526 is a different experience and that the game as a whole is a good 4x Sci-Fi game that stacks up well with many of the other popular 4x games. I agree that tactical combat could use improvement (which is the subject of the next update there) but I think Bob has done a good job with both the initial design and the post-release updates.

Erik I understand your loyalty to Armada.

But,

This IS a big part of Armada's decreasing community support.

I own Armada (2 copies in fact and paid over $100 for them combined!).
I posted in that community on a regular basis till Neutron began to display a recalcitrant attitude about Fan suggestions. Many of which were well founded and documented from gameplay. Some from his own beta testers.

SC in Armada is flawed in it's presentation. When ships jostle and push each other around on the combat screen above the planet like Bumper Cars at an amusement park, it Seriously takes away from the games immersion factor. When you can get lost once you move away from the planet looking for the wormholes that the ships are escaping thru it Takes away from the eXperience.

As I said above I own 2 copies, spent more than my fair share in trying to support a 4X TBS Space game, only to have the Developer be seemingly non responsive to some serious game issues. I Hope that Mr Smith (Neutron) IS in fact working on a Patch. Because as it stands now Armada's community is a virtual Ghost town. And that means a Serious Loss of Fan support. We the Gamers that Love 4X Space TBS hate to see potential games get lost/abandoned because the Developer can't bend "like a reed in the wind but not break" with their games development and fan's perceptions and perspective.

Armada could be the next LE:I or the next Sins, it all depends upon the Dev.
