SUBJECT: SANTA CRUZ ISLANDS DATE: MAY 23RD, 1942 1st Wave, with 36 G4M1 escorted by 18 A6M2 Naval fighters met with 6 F4F4 and 2 P-40E on CAP. 1 A6M2 and 1 G4M1 were downed. 7 F4F were destroyed in the dogfight. 2nd Wave, with 12 A6M2 escorting Recon flight (1 C5M2), reported no enemy cap over Ndeni skies. 3rd Wave, with 12 A6M2 escorting a C5M2 recon flight, reported no enemy fighters on CAP at Ndeni. 4th Wave, with another 12 A6M2 sweeping Ndeni reported no enemy aircrafts were met on CAP. 5th Wave, with 35 A6M2 sweeping Ndeni, reporting no enemy fighters on CAP. 6th Wave, with 12 A6M2 escorting a C5M2 recon flight. 7th Wave, with 12 A6M2 flying a sweep mission over Ndeni. 8th Wave, with another 12 A6M2 flying another sweep mission over Ndeni 9th Wave, with 12 A6M2 flying a sweep mission reported no enemy CAP over Ndeni. 175 sorties were flown over Ndeni today from IJNAF.
