SUBJECT: MALAYA & NORTH BORNEO REPORTS
DATE: Dec 29th, 1941.

(1)Georgetown falls in our hands!

3.000 enemy troops have been destroyed at Georgetown. Enemy surrender in masse after heavy air strikes and ground assault. First air raid with 40 Ki-27 straffe enemy positions reporting 6 casualties on Penang Fortress (1 Ki-27 downed by enemy flak). Second air strike with 24 Ki-43 escorting 22 Ki51, 12 Ki-32, 19 Ki-21 and 54 Ki-48 reported 115 enemy casualties from Penang Fortress.

At ground our forces deliberate attack enemy fortifications, downed to level 0, and enemy was heavily smashed. 5/14th Punjab, 3rd SSVF Bn, Penang Fortress and 28th Gurkha Brigades have surrender.

(2) Air Strikes on Singapore

3rd Air Division have launched a probe attack over Singapore, but enemy is heavily defended with 33 Buffalos at CAP over Singapore. We lost 10 Ki-21 and 6 Ki-43Ia/b by only 5 Buffaloes downed. Suspended all air ops over Singapore. LGEN Sugawara will receive orders to be ready with 60-70 Ki-43s to launch a massive sweep mission over enemy skies. It´s mandatory to gain air supperiority when Kuching falls in our hands.

(3) Enemy air attacks

1 Hudson was downed by our Ki-43s wehn bombing XXV Army advanced guard (5 blenheims and 4 hudson meet with 8 Ki-43 at CAP).
Another 2 Blenheim were downed over Singora when tried to attack shippings there. 3 Ki-43 intercepted them (only 3 Blenheims)

(4) Kuching

2nd Fleet main body is ready to launch bombardment mission after minesweepers complete their missions. WE know enemy minelayer was spotted near Kuching returning to northwest (singapore?)

2nd China convoy arrives succesfully and without incidents to Shangai with near 19.000 tons of war supplies to feed ofensives in this threatre.

10th I.F.Chutai have been ordered to be upgrade at Canton. This unit will reemplace their obsoletes Ki-27b by news Ki-43Ic.

At Honk Kong minesweeper mission was accomplished and 2nd Fleet HQ under VADM Kondo will be transfered when ASW assets will be available at Takao.
Hong Kong have expands fortifications to level 1

Chinhae (at South Korea) expands airfield to level 2. Air ASW assets ready for service.

Today morning, a H6K4 naval search flight reported one or two enemy ships in Okhost Sea. Our observer report like AMC and not soviet confirmed. Tomorrow morning all our G4M1 from Yokohama Ku K-1 at Bihoro will be ready to launch naval attack if enemy position is confirmed by our naval search flights.

RO-34 patrolling in Northern Waters have been dispatched to intercept enemy ships.

HIJMS Hosho with escorts at ASW duties between Kushiro and Sendai will be available tomorrow if needed. (ETA Kushiro, Dec 31st, 1941)

(1) 3rd Air Division Report:

13 enemy fighters (Buffaloes) have being intercepted by 5 Ki-43Ic over XXV Army left wing advance guard. 4 Buffaloes were downed by 1 Ki-43Ic lost.
Tomorrow all Ki-43Ib/c available will launch a sweep over Singapore to gain air supperiority over this naval base.

(2) XXV Army Report:

91st Naval Guard with an AA Batallon will garrison Georgetown.

(3) 5th Air Division & 23rd Air Flotillas Report

50 G4M1 and 3 G3M2 have take off from Takao to attack USAFFE HQ. 1 P-40 downed and 168 casualties reported in this ground unit.
21 G3M2 attacked 71st P.A.Division at Manila. 54 casualties were reported.
A third wave with 24 Ki-27, 16 Ki-51, 6 Ki-36, 27 Ki-30 and 22 Ki-48 have attacked 51st P.A.division. One P-40 was downed and 84 casualties reported from enemy.
An Afternoon wave with 8 G4M1 heavily escorted by 27 A6M2 have attack Cavite Naval Yard, reporting 1 bomb hit on xAP Neptuna and another hit on XAP President Madison. 8 enemy ships reported docked.

2 A6M2 intercepted two waves of SOC-1 trying to attack our shippings at Mauban. 2 enemy SOC were downed.

76th I.F.Chutai have been transfered to Bayombong to Aparri. From there this unit would be recon our next targets in Luzon.

(3) XIV Army report

Kure 1st SNLF Have captured Oroquieta
146th Infantry Regiment will departure tomorrow in Jolo Expeditionary Force under heavy cover (BAT DIV 1)

(4) Third Fleet Report.

VADM Takahashi 3rd Fleet HQ will be transfered from Takao to Hong Kong.

3rd Fleet assets will be transfered at once to Hong Kong to be ready for the Ambon Landing Expedition:

DD Ikazuchi, DD Yamagumo, TB Kiji, XAP Hasai Maru and 13 Aden Cargo Class transports. Three SC will support like ASW escorts.

xAK Kokuryu Maru will departure from Batangas after this port have been raided several day ago for enemy fighter-bombers. She will head unescorted to Hong Kong.

(5) 2nd Fleet Report:

CRUDIV 7 under RADM Kurita have smashed enemy positions at Kuching. AF heavily damaged. Two hits on our cruiser but any damage (1 system on Kumano).

Mobile Force and CarDiv 3 will cover landings tomorrow. I/124th Infantry Bn will be landed like advance guard.

3 dutch bombers were intercepted by 1 A6M2 over Miri. 1 enemy aircraft was downed. No hits reported in our ships.

6 A6M2 have intercepted 3 B17 attacking CRUDIV 7. Mogami was attacked but no hits were reported.

(6) 22nd Air Flotilla Report.

30 G3M2 and 25 G4M1 have attacked 2/15th Punjab Bn positions at Kuching. 63 enemy casualties were reported.
A second wave with 32 unescorted G3M2 have attacked Sarawak Force positions at Kuching.
The third wave with 8 G3M2 have attacked the same unit reporting another 15 casualties.

Tomorrow all available bombers will support our landings at Kuching. No quarter to enemy.

heavy air losses over Cabanatuan. Surprised by 18 P-40 at CAP our air forces have lost 2 Ki-27, 5 Ki-30 and 2 Ki-48. Our pilots reported 79 ground losses over 91st P.A.Division. Our ground forces at shock attack posture and supported by heavy artillery fire have smashed 91st P.A.Division and 3nd/12th P.A. infantry Bn. 711 enemy casualties were reported by 180 IJA casualties in our Tanaka Det.

10 B-17 were intercepted over Davao skies by 6 A5M4. enemy turned back with a critical hit on 1 B-17D.

BATDIV 1 have strike Zamboanga (when we suspect enemy launched air strikes with their P-26s). At Zamboanga our recon reported a ship anchored at port. BATDIV 1 reported 1 shell hit on 1 AVD and 73 runway hits. Zamboanga airfield was absolutely destroyed by our 405mms gunfire.

Tomorrow 21st and 23rd Air Flotilla will launched air attacks over Clark and Iba AFs heavily escorted by A6M2 Type-0 Naval fighters.

W-3, W-5 and W-2 mineswepeers was sunk by coastal fire when cleaning up Kuching water from enemy mines.
CRUDIV 7 have bombed Kuching positions. 10 runway hits were reported. Tomorrow Kurita´s cruisers will bombard enemy positions and will head to Cam Ranh Bay to reload and refuel to join with 2nd Fleet Main Body in the Ambon Ops.
At Kuching, I & II/4th Bns will launch a shock attack against enemy positions at Kuching. Tomorrow will arrive to Kuchig AA elements (16th AA regiment & 44th Field AA Bn).

H6K4 have reported a hit on a enemy submarine 80 nm southeast CamRanh Bay.

A Cachalot class SS was reported hit by F1M2 from HIJMS Nachi.

Only 1 cargo ship was sunk by enemy submarine. 01 Aden Cargo Class when returning from Shimonoseki to Chinnampo. Another attacks were unsuccesfull or torpedo hits but no explodes (duds)
All defensive mines in our inner perimeter let us maritime corridors to transit under confidence with light ASW escort.
Deployment of several Daitais - Chutais in Korea Straits area let us to minimize enemy submarine attacks in convoy transit this maritime corridor.

(2) Setbacks

Toyohara-Toyama convoy must be cancelled due to surface enemy threat in Okhost Sea during several days.

Several Tankers could not departure from Cam Ranh Bay to Shangai or Port Arthur to join with her sisters due ASW assets to escort them unavailable (all at war missions on Malaya eastern coast or Borneo north coast). Submarine Threat in the area so high to risk this High Value Ships.

One Port Arthur - Shimonoseki Tanker Convoy must be cancelled due ASW assets unavailable and several enemy submarines spotted at Yellow Sea.

Today 40 nm west of Port Moresby our carriers have launched two waves over Port Moresby enemy ground positions to soft enemy defenses.
1st Wave with 135 D3A1 & 45 B5N1 escorted by 16 A6M2 have strike Gull Bn. A second wave in the afternoon with 17 D3A1 and 45 B5N2 escorted by 8 A6M2 have attack Port Moresby Brigade positions. About 50 enemy casualties reported. 1 B5N2 was damaged at landing.
Tomorrow we will recon enemy positions before minesweepers sqdrns arrive to support landing operations. BatDiv 2 & BatDiv3 are ready to blast enemy positions when landings will begin.

At Rabaul, forces of 144th Infantry Regiment report enemy have been defeated and Rabaul captured with only 30 IJA casualties. 245 enemy were killed.

Munda and Shortlands have been captured by our expeditionary forces.

(1) ASW Efforts

DD Hayashio reports depth charge attack on dutch oceanic SS near Kuching. Reported 3 hits or near misses.
DD Oite reporting 9 hits or near misses on a T Class USN SS near Shortlands. HIJMS Oite out of ASW Ammo ordered to return to Truk.
Enemy Submarine was spotted near Shimonoseki, 40 nm east of Tsushima Fortress, a Hunter Killer Group have been dispatched to chase enemy intruder.

(2) Kuching Op

AMc Wa-3 has sunk by coastal fire when mineswepper Kuching waters.

6 P-35 have attack BATDIV 1 in transit to Hong Kong. 1 enemy fighter bomber was downed by our Flak.

DD Sagiri was torpedoed by dutch SS near Kuching. Heavily damages (38 sys, 88 Flt, 49 Eng, 7 fires) she is heading at cruise to Kuching, only 40nm southwest of her position.

33rd & 34th Const Bn and 15th Cons Coy will be shipped at Samah to be transfered to Kuching (AF and Port absolutely destroyed by our naval gunfire).

3 Destroyers and 2 subchasser will be transfered from Miri-Brunei area to Saigo to support 21st Air Flotilla HQ transit to Kuching.

Kuching have falls in our hands with heavy allied losses (780). Sarawak Force surrender and two minor units fleeing. 79 IJA casualties reported in the assault forces.

XAK INDIA MARU Runs aground shile attempting to unload at Kuching. Damage Report: 11 system, 1 flood and 4 engines.

(3) Others

Kanoya Ku K-1 /C with 9 G4M1 have been deployed at Cagayan. 21st Air Flotilla is landing in this base and will support air naval Ops in South Borneo.

Landings at Jolo. 146th I.R. have landed in this base and tomorrow will be in our hands.

HIJMS Kitakami under heavy ASW escort will departure tomorrow from Davao to Yokosuka drydock.

Butuan have been captured at Mindanao.
Jolo have been liberated by 146th Infantry Regiment. Our ships reported enemy minefields at Jolo waters. Sighted an enemy submarine in this area too. Several minesweeper dispatched by 3rd Fleet to Jolo to mopping up these waters.

HIJMS Minegumo reported 3 depth charges hit or near missses on an electric boat pinged near Vigan.

23rd Air Flotilla HQ reported following air strike over Cavite Naval Yard at Manila:

1st Wave with 40 G4M1 escorted by 36 A6M2 reported:

-3 bomb hits on AS CANOPUS
-2 bomb hits on XAP NEPTUNA
-2 bomb hits on XAKL COMPAÑIA FILIPINAS (reported sunk)
-1 bomb hit on XAK PRINCESS OF NEGROS
-1 bomb hit on XAKL ANAKAN
-1 bomb hit on XAK TANTALUS (reported sunk)
-1 bomb hit on XAP PRESIDENT MADISON

DATE: Jan 3rd, 1942.

Our carriers have launched 45 D3A1 escorted by 08 A6M2 to strike enemy positions at Port Moresby and cover our landings. 1 D3A1 have been downed by enemy FLAK.

Mobile Force under RADM Renzo Tanaka have bombed enemy ground positions at Port Moresby. 300 enemy casualties wre reported. Runway absolutely destroyed (86 hits reported). Destroyers escorting Landing Force fire back to enemy coastal guns to cover our assault. 4th Infantry Division and 28th Shipping Engineer Regiment at beachead. Kyuko Naval Guard Unit (previously transfered to Southern Area Army) have landing at Kwangchowang. No enemy resistance. This base will fall in our hands tomorrow.
02 ASW escort destroyers have clash with enemy MTB off Kwangchowang. 1 of these boats have been sunk by our gunfire.

HIJMS Ashigara (flagship of Kwangchowang landing force) was torpedoed by enemy submarine. 02 torpedo hits reported (44 floating damages). Our Heavy Cruiser is heading Hong Kong drydock under heavy escort (2 DD, SC, APD and 2 PBs). In retaliation attack over enemy submarine our ASW surface assets reported on hit or near misses on enemy sub.

23rd chinese Group Army with 21st, 49th, 50th and 3rd New Corps have launched a offensive against Nanchang. 452 IJA casualties reported (vs. 334 chinese lost). One reinforcement brigade launched a shock attack against enemy positions at Nanchang reporting 196 chinese casualties vs 35 IJA men lost.

2nd Ching An tui Bde will be transfered by railway from Peiping to Tangshan to relieve 36th Infantry Divison at garrison duties at this base. When releaved, 36th Division will march to north to smash enemy forces.

40th Field AA Bn will be shipped to Hong Kong from Pescadores at soon at possible.

AMc´s have sweeps enemy mines at Jolo. An enemy submarine have attacked our minesweepers but no hits was reported.

CL TAMA and DD HASU have surprise near Ilo Ilo an enemy PT Sqdrn. 1 of these boats were sunk by our gunfire.

Clark Field was smashed by our 23rd Air Flotilla raid: 50 G4M1s and 23 G3M2s escorted by 25 A6m2 have strike AF, 34 runway hits were reported by our pilots.

Over Iba, 5th Air Division aircrafts, have strike 31st P.A.division defensive positions with 27 Ki-48, 19 Ki-30, 14 Ki-21, 9 Ki-36 and 3 Ki-51 escorted by 35 Ki-27bs. 28 enemy casualties were reported.

7 G4M1 from Kanoya Ku K-1 have attack two enemy oceanic minesweepers off Bataan, no hits reported.

6 G4M1 from Formosa AFs have strike Cavite Naval Yard reporting 1 bomb hit on xAP President Madison.

Bayombon AF have been increased to level 2.

xAK Karachi Maru will be at readiness rep mode at Aparri to be transfered to Hong Kong for a complete repair.

CVL Zuiho TF will head to Takao to upgrade Air fighter group and rendezvous with 1st BatDiv and Ambon Landing Force.

Two succesives waves of enemy fighter bombers were intercepted over Vigan today. 6 A6M2 from 3rd Ku K-1 Sentai reported 2 enemy P-35A downed by dogfight.

Enemy forces identified at Iba: 1st P.I.Base Force and 31st P.A.Division.

Enemy forces identified at Manila: Cavite USN Base Force, Manila USAAF BG, PAF Aviation, II Phillipine Corps HQ, 1st, 51st, 71st and 102nd Phillipine Divisions, 194th Tank Bn, 2nd constabulary Regiment.

Cagayan have raised fortifications to level 1. Will be increased to level 2.

Only one ship reported docked at Cavite Naval Yard with another unidentified at Clark.
5th Air Division will launch several air raids to supress enemy AFs and end with enemy air resistance (near 15 P-40s flying at Luzon).

Manila will be bombed by ground heavy arty and 5th Air Division bombers by several days before begin with direct assaults.

Iba will be assaulted with 7th Tank Regiment arrives like reinforcement to assault enemy positions. After Iba falls, our forces will converge to Clark Field under heavy air support to piece enemy in two isolated positions (Manila and Bataan).

13 G4M1 from kanoya ku k-1 daitai escorted by 3 A5M4 have sunk xAK Fatshan off IloIlo after 3 torpedo hits. 7 enemy fighters at CAP (P-26). No air losses.

ENEMY Submarine Snapper is reported sunk by 250kg bomb hit near Cam Ranh Bay.

(2) Submarine report

I-18 reports enemy AM Chevreuil under french flag have been sunk after one torpedo hit near Noumea.

(3) Enemy submarines activities:

Dutch coastal sub sinks DMS W-6 in transit to Miri. She was previously severely damaged by CD fie when minesweep Kuching Waters.

(4) Naval Report

xAK Hiyoshi Maru was sunk after been struck by 2 bomb hits launched by dutch bombers off Kuching. She was to bottom with motorized support of 16th AA Regiment.

Mobile Force is returning to Truk to join with 3rd Fleet elements at Babeldaob to Ambon Ops.

AMC Hokoku Maru has arrived to yokohama drydock from Canton Island area after been hit by enemy surface destroyers. She will need 4 days to complete repairs (8 system damages).

CS 078 Convoy (SHIKUKA-NIIGATA) have been suspended and is returning to Wakkanai due surface threat. One enemy surface ship was spotted by H6K4 at Okhoskts Sea.

CM Toshima will departure from ominato to minelay Kushiro waters after a enemy submarine were spotted several times in this area.

3rd CHINA SUPPLY CONVOY is shipping war supplies at Tokyo Port to departure to Shangai when ready.


Kyuko Naval Guard have captured Kwangchowang.
Port Moresby have been captured by 4th IJA Division. Enemy have lost 1107 men by 124 IJA casualties reported. 11st Air Fleet ready to be transfered from Takao to South Seas.

Horn Island is heavily defended by A Coy /49th Aussie Bn, Torres Strait Bn, Horn Island Det. 2nd Indpt SNLF Coy requested reinforcements. Orders have been dispatched to Port moresby Landing Force to dettach a brigade from 4th Division to support Horn Island capture.

1st Wave: (TARGET: Cairns AF) (Force: 77 D3A1 dive bombers escorted by 8 A6M2). 25 runway hits reported and 1 A-24 dive bomber destroyed at ground.

2nd Wave: (TARGET: Townsville AF) (Force: 110 B5N2, 27 D3A1 escorted by 8 A6M2). 66 runway hits reported.

3rd Wave: (TARGET: Charter Towers AF) (Force: 27 D3A1 and 10 A6M2). 17 runway hits reported.

Naval Target: Our Naval search floatplanes reported two enemy ships about 80 nm southeast of our positions. 27 B5N2 take off from our Carriers to strike them. Two minesweepers were sunk. Both ships identified like AM MIDURA and AM BUNBURY.

CMc Toshima reported was attacked by enemy submarine in her transit to Kushiro. No hits reported. Our coastal minelayer will follow to mine Kushiro waters.

ASW escorts at Port Moresby report a retaliation attack vs an enemy S Class submarine off Port Moresby. 2 hits on her (1 direct hit reported). Enemy boat reported SUNK. SUBMARINE IDENTIFIED LIKE USS SEARAVEN.

DD Asagao reports 3 hits or near misses on an enemy Electric SS near Vigan.

Previous report of sinking of K XIV Coastal dutch submairine and O-20 oceanic dutch submarine incorrect. Both ships reported engages after sunk report.

(2) Others

HIJMS Ashigara have arrives to Hong Kong drydock with 13 system, 46 flood (32 major) and 42 engine (41 major) damages. Estimated time for complete repairs is 146 days.

AS Heian Maru ordered to Davao from Kobe to support submarine ops at D.E.I.

After landings at Kudat, Brunei, Miri and Kuching, our forces are ready to start with Pontinak-Sambas-Singkawangk landings.

Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we hope Kuching Reinforcements convoy (II) will arrive to this port with enough engineers to urgent repairs at AF and Port in this base. When ready, 22nd Air Flotilla Hq will be transfered to North Borneo.

CARDIV 3, 3rd Mobile Force and CRUDIV 7 will escort our forces from CamRanh Bay to Singkawang.
From Miri, II and III/90th Infantry Bns (IJA crack troops) will landing at Pontinank.

This morning our naval search aircraft have reported enemy light cargo ships heading southwest from Kwangchowang area (captured by NGU days ago).

3 B5M1 attacked this morning and sinks XAKL KANCHOW after 4 bomb hits. A Second wave with another 3 B5M1 sinks XAKL Haildor after another 4 bomb hits.
10 Ki-27 b from IJA Daitai at anti-PT boat straffe enemy ships (XAKL Soochos and XAK Hai Lee), both in the same position that former sunk ships.

Your orders will be departure tomorrow from Samah at early morning with 1 escorting DD to intercept and sink enemy ships heading 210-270.

Marquis Kido, Lord Keeper of the Prival Seal have request to BOARDS OF MARSHALLS AND ADMIRALS to pay attention on the supplies deficiencies at China War Area.
It´s our primary target to eliminate China or commit to join against communist bandits. Several times this government have offer kinds proposals to join at Anti-Kommintern Pact to Chiang-Kai-Chek, but this chief of bandits have refusal our purposes. It´s time to accelerate our campaign to destroy Chinese forces in the middle and North Area. For this, we must to send as much war supplies as needed to reinforce our military efficiency.

GEN. Umezu will assume reponsability to send 96.000 tons of supplies that will be transfered via Port Arthur to Tientsin - Tsingtao ports from Manchukuo surplus.

CHINA AREA FLEET HQ at Shanghái has received orders from ADM. Nagano to cover this supply seaborne movements with light ASW forces. 08 Lima Cargo Class are gathering at Shimonoseki port to head to Port Arthur. Their first mission will be transfer this ammount of supplies to China Port.

However, the regular supply convoy from Tokyo to Shanghái will go on with supplies transfers from Honshu to China (3 monthly convoys with 16.000 tons each for a total about 48.000 tons of war supplies).

Enemy have launched air sweeps with H81A3 fighters flown by air pirates and we must to destroy this threat at once. Several meassures will be taken and secrets orders will be dispatch to 23rd Air Flotilla HQ at Takao and 5th Air Division at Aparri when fighters from this forces will be available.
