FROM: LGEN Homma, XIV Army C-in-C, near Manila. TO: GEN. Hisaichi Terauchi, Southern Area Army HQ. SUBJECT: Phillipine War Report. DATE: Jan 4th, 1942. Two succesives waves of enemy fighter bombers were intercepted over Vigan today. 6 A6M2 from 3rd Ku K-1 Sentai reported 2 enemy P-35A downed by dogfight. Enemy forces identified at Iba: 1st P.I.Base Force and 31st P.A.Division. Enemy forces identified at Manila: Cavite USN Base Force, Manila USAAF BG, PAF Aviation, II Phillipine Corps HQ, 1st, 51st, 71st and 102nd Phillipine Divisions, 194th Tank Bn, 2nd constabulary Regiment. Cagayan have raised fortifications to level 1. Will be increased to level 2. Only one ship reported docked at Cavite Naval Yard with another unidentified at Clark. 5th Air Division will launch several air raids to supress enemy AFs and end with enemy air resistance (near 15 P-40s flying at Luzon). Manila will be bombed by ground heavy arty and 5th Air Division bombers by several days before begin with direct assaults. Iba will be assaulted with 7th Tank Regiment arrives like reinforcement to assault enemy positions. After Iba falls, our forces will converge to Clark Field under heavy air support to piece enemy in two isolated positions (Manila and Bataan). 13 G4M1 from kanoya ku k-1 daitai escorted by 3 A5M4 have sunk xAK Fatshan off IloIlo after 3 torpedo hits. 7 enemy fighters at CAP (P-26).
