Makes a lot of sense, actually. The two companies are fairly similar with a shared customer base.

Damn it all! WCS has been working for well over a year now on a turn- and hex-based Quidditch game. But who's going to buy a Quidditch game from a company called "Slitherine"? I mean, those guys always seem to lose...

Well Slitherine does have that History Channel contract and they also have that Ultimate Warrior contract on Spike tv so I'd wager Slitherine has the more funds going into this merger. They also have the popular Field of Glory so it would seem (though I'm not too keen on it because the single player game is awful) and they've had a history of success selling the Ancients series like Legion, Legion Gold, Chariots of War, the ever popular Spartan and then Gates of Troy, Arena and the like.

I remember Iain once boasting a sales figure of 100,000 copies of Legion alone. I feel Matrixgames needs this merger to stay afloat. These last few years haven't seen a great many 'new' inovative releases and I just can't see them making a pile of money on Close Combat and Talonsoft re-releases. I became a bit skeptical when I read that KOIOS developers left them. Plus them taking an awful long time (nearly a year now) just for one patch for Panzer Command:Kharkov.

Distant Worlds might have brought them some new success (I didn't care for it) and some new blood into the fray from the outside mainstream world because of it's real time status but probably not enough to put it ahead of Slitherine.

This news was supposed to go out on Monday along with an official press release, so we were a bit surprised to see it show up on Friday.

In any case, it is very good news. Both we and Slitherine have very complementary strengths. This will allow each of our companies to grow faster and do more than we could do on our own. We've been working on this for a while and there are skills, technologies and games that we will be sharing with each other which will make the whole greater than the sum of the parts. Nothing is changing as far as the titles we have under development or the kinds of games we make and all our developers are on board and excited.

Regarding the negative speculation, I guess it's natural that there will be some, but it has nothing to do with this merger.

Koisk Works are no more they didn't leave Matrix as far as I know. Matrix of their own back have decided to carry on with the game and all credit to them.
