We should of done this sooner but this is the first time I remembered to grab a screen shot.

We are doing the Der Ost Front GC. I'm playing as the Russians. So far I have been successful in damaging the Nazi assault as the image below shows.

There have been some pretty brutal slugging matches. I'll have to grab some more screenshots next time we play.

It's been great so far. I've been teaching Dampsquib the ropes of playing against a person instead of the AI.

We started another operation and on the last battle of the evening I grabbed some screenshots.

I didn't get any of the first map of the operation, however I made Damp pay for every inch. The core of my BG was 2 152mm and 1 76mm guns. He didn't manage to get into their defense zones too often although when he did I would have one gun blast a round off to remove the offending target.

Most of the damage was done with HMG, LMG and either a KV-1 or T-34 depending on the day. I held the first map for 5 days before needing to retire.

On the second map I fled without putting up a fight. I didn't want to lose tanks and AT guns in that open field when better defensive positions lay behind.

On the third map I knew there would be a great fight. The first day of this battle was our last of the night.

I used 2 newbie LMG teams as my tripwire in the buildings at the edge of my deployment zone to let me know when he'd decide to move out of the structures. I figured they could hold him up for a few minutes and maybe he'd expose other forces trying to encircle the LMG teams.

In the trenches on the west side of the river I had another LMG team to cover the other's retreat when the time came.

On the other side of the river I had 3 82mm mortar teams, 2 152mm, 1 76mm, 3 T-34 '41, 1 T-34 '42, sapernaya and HMG teams.

He began trying to advance and my LMG teams put up light resistance. He had a MkIV nearby that blasted one building so I pulled the other LMG team out before it suffered the same fate. The remains of the first team I pulled back to the west bank trench line under covering fire from the LMG team I stationed there.

Firing between the two lines continued until I noticed a MkIV moving through the woods to the south. I could tell it would eventually pass through a firing line by one of my T-34s so I waited until I had a side shot and then destroyed it with the first hit. Hence the small bulge in the lines to the south. After a few more minutes of ineffectual fighting we agreed to a truce.

The operation did not go well for Damp. After 6 more days fighting his forces were only able to force the river when I retired in order to gain access to more tank types before the operation ended.

I made him bleed quite a bit on the middle map. He's still learning how to force crossings.

Forgot to grab some screenshots from last night's action. The Germans lost quite a few men trying to push through. During my counteroffensive I managed to push him back to the jumping off map. There was a great battle on the 2nd to last day of the operation that I wish I had grabbed some shots of.

Tonight I'll make sure to grab some shots.

The overall campaign continues to go well for Soviet forces. There was a small bump at Voronezh, but since then I've been doing well to grind out the German assault. Now I'm back on the counterattack in the Caucasus.

More reports to follow later....

After our last encounter i was left with not much of a BG. I hoped for a few points to spend on equipment men etc...what i got was 50 points (see screen shot) Dundradal kindly killed my last commander who was in a tank .

Well I see a problem right away.

That AT gun is in the bunker backwards. Its LOS is limited by the bunker entrance. That's why I was able to flank it and flame it out.

You are improving quite a bit though from our first battles. Maybe you could meet up with someone over at CCS.net (Death_dealer plays CoI) while I'm away this week

I'm going away for a week but I've grabbed some shots that update our current GC status....

The current battle map. Damp is on the defensive as I push his forces back. I've been pushing along the bottom of the map. We fought a few great battles during his offensive on this map so it's littered with tank wrecks.

Thanks guys for making an all new AAR of this wonderful little game! It's been a pleasant read and it's nice that people are still playing this CC and posting stuff like this on the forum.

Teddy - Thanks! I'm back from my trip to Virginia Military Institute. I attended the Society for Military History Conference there this weekend. What a great time! But I'm back now so the AARs will start flowing again.

Andrew - I've been teaching Damp the whole time through the GC. He's gotten a lot better than when we first started. I'm guessing near the end of the GC it's going to be a slugging match.

I'm back from my trip and have some combat to report....

Hitler will be getting no oil from my wells....

The operation to push Damp out of the region was a success. It was costly in men for both sides, although I took out a large number of Damp's guns.

I'm going to upload a few more screenshots then we are returning to the front tonight. Both of us are going to try and remember to grab some combat screenshots as well as the normal result screens.

I'm also going to try and provide better narrations to the battles. Hopefully screenshots will make it easier

Overall Campaign Results

I'm getting the better of Damp by about 50% in most categories. I should have given him the Soviet side to play as he is still learning to play H2H but in the rematch in the regular CoI GC I'll let him take the Soviets.

This is my current battle group as Damp's assault on Stalingrad begins.

Our games got cut short because Damp's internet was acting up. Hopefully this weekend we'll have some more to report!

And I'm always looking for other challengers!
