I just want to say that it is now 2/43 and not one Jap ship
of ANY type has radar.

That would not be so bad but:

Savo Island DID happen. The torpedoes actually HIT the enemy
ships and SANK them. 4 CA sunk.

I have seen ONE torp hit so far at night in this game fired from a destroyer.

The first and second battles of Guadalcanal also happened.
The Japs even without radar spotted the USA force first.

I have NEVER seen that happen.

When the USA gets radar, you might as well not engage them.

I had a force of 2BB 2BC 4CA 3CL 6DD Tanaka

It got TRASHED by,

2CA 2CL 7DD

How is that? I have no idea. Since I saved the game, I loaded
it and ran it again. I got EXACTLY the same results.
I ran it again, EXACTLY the same results.

Ok I am asking, what is going on?

Also, when do the Jap CV (at least) get Radar?

Well, I've had the following results happen (I'm Allied):

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/25/42

Night Time Surface Combat, near Lunga at 38,40

Japanese Ships
DD Kuroshio, Shell hits 8, and is sunk
DD Shiranui, Shell hits 8, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
DD Michishio, Shell hits 6, on fire (sinks)
DD Isonami, Shell hits 15, and is sunk
TK Nippon Maru
TK Akebono Maru
AP Akashisan Maru
AP Asahisan Maru
AP Batavia Maru
AP Brazil Maru
AP Ceylon Maru
AP Chihaya Maru
AP Cuba Maru
AP Enju Maru
AP Florida Maru
AP Hakusan Maru
AP Heiwa Maru
AP Hirokawa Maru
AP Keisho Maru
AP Kyokusei Maru
AP Nako Maru
AP Nichibi Maru
AP Shoan Maru
AP Yamura Maru

Allied Ships
CA Portland, Shell hits 4, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
CA Minneapolis, Shell hits 11, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage (sinks)
CA Vincennes, Shell hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Mugford
DD Jarvis
DD Lang
DD Smith

-----------------------------

This was a bombardment TF which arrived at Lunga. Both sides were surprised. The Japanese scattered.

So, torpedoes do work. I was doing well until they started firing the torpedoes. ;)

Chiteng,

I'm afraid you're basing your conclusions off too few data points. Anything is possible, but not everything is likely. Your experience with Tanaka certainly will not happen every time. I had a similar engagement recently where Tanaka kicked butt, torpedos and all, as you'd expect from the force comparison.

I understand this unusual result frustrated you, but the game model does allow bad "rolls" to accumulate, leading to a lopsided victory. It doesn't happen often, but it can happen- if it couldn't happen, then there would be historical battles that couldn't be replicated.

In any case, re-running the save will not tell you anything since the random seeds are stored when the game is first started. Provided not much else changes, you could run the save fifty times and get the same results. You'd need to change the situation substantially (i.e not send him in until the next day) for the results to be significantly different for this particular "war".

Another point for evaluation: in a recent game against the AI I had both the South Dakota and the Washington torpedoed by Japanese destroyers and their long lancesBoth sank. They were commanded by Admiral Lee and had SG radar in a force with other radar-equipped ships. Nevertheless, their TF lost, badly.

Radar (particularly SG) does make it easier for the Allies, but only in combination with experienced ships and good commanders. You can make a whole task force of SC-equipped ships early on and they'll still take a pounding more often than not.

Regards,

- Erik

The Problem is that I am certain that Radar effects the strike sequencing. and THAT means the Japs are behind the 8 ball.

in addition the ship chart lists NO radar so I assume that means
they have no radar.

When do the Japs get any kind of radar?
