I would bet the austrailians show up, unlike the poles in the last world cup. Funny how history repeats itself.

c´mon Holland!!!
Most beautiful, powerful highspeed soccer in the modern age. Period.

Too bad that they have the habit of losing in the finals after steamrolling everyone in the group phase.



I think I will cross fingers for Australia tonight though. At least my country gets confused with you Aussies by geographically less gifted
on a regular basis.

heh, I am from Munich and we call Spatenbräu ("Spade brewery") derogatory Schaufelbier ("shovel beer") and it´s generally considered as the worst beer of Munich´s brands.
Most liked beer is "Augustiner" (at least in my circle of friends).

Okay he made a very elementary error - and because he is a goalkeeper and their gaffes are normally more high profile -his mistake and his mistake alone apparently, cost us the win. BUT you may want to ask what the hell Heskey was doing shooting straight at Howard when clean through, or the Wright-Phillips "effort" - albeit from a more difficult angle.

Personally I would have liked to see Hart play because for a youngster he seems to have great confidence, has had a great season with Birmingham - and he looks the part. But bringing a relatively inexperienced player into such a big game would have been a massive risk - remember Scott Carson and Croatia anyone? remember Peter Shilton vs Poland in 1973 and dare I mention Peter Bonetti......

Oh and I forgot - well done USA - hope we both progress to the last 16.

I don't particularly blame Rob Green for the mistake, as you say they happen and 'keepers don't have anyone to cover their mistakes. He shouldn't have cocked up like he did, but it's not the end of the world. The team is 11 players, maybe the defence should have been closing Dempsey down...

As for Joe Hart, I've felt he's the best choice for a while now. If you're good enough then you're old enough and there's only one way to gain experience of playing in the World Cup. We're hardly blessed with an excess of good English goalkeepers (or defenders) right now.

I'd be happy to see the US in the last 16 as well.

It's because having won the WC once we're clearly entitled to win it again and be favourites to do so every time. Never mind the fact that we're a quarter-final level nation, the red-tops demand tournament success and any failure to beat a "lesser" team like the USA needs a villain to blame.

Sorry, I have to drink the whole case for myself ;-)

Yes, that´s Augustiner "Edelstoff" ("classy stuff") , a little stronger than the Augustiner "Hell" ("blond"), which I prefer. But it´s no Pils, that kind of beer is called "Helles", I think it can be compared to a Lager.
Unfortunately I don´t know of any Pils brewed in Munich.

Well, you have Bendtner. Some cruel commentator said in one of the Arsenal's Premier League games:

"They should train Bendtner as central defender. That way his ability to miss goal would actually be beneficial!"

Hate to admit it but I sometimes play a vuvuzela during some of the really good after action reports!

Damn, you guys are going to make me go down to the beer distributor today. Have to go to one about 20 minutes away. Should be time right after the Serbia Ghana match. Germany Australia starts 2:30 my time. Saw a good twitter this week. "Best thing about the world cup? A reason to drink at 7:30 AM!"

Status: offline 		Those horns are annoying, but ESPN seems to be keeping the sound as a dull roar in the background. I have no problem hearing the announcers with the volume set low enough to keep the horns as just an annoying background noise. However, that yellow card for the player for Ghana because he couldn't hear the referee's whistle should be reason enough to ban the horns.

I have a bad feeling about this. Stupidity of people seems to be endless.

If people in South Africa thinks that plastic horns "Made in China" are part of their culture, that's fine. I can watch these games, but major part of the football atmosphere is gone.

I really, really hope these things don't catch on elsewhere.
