I wonder if you sensed a threat, or I just got unlucky and ended up shooting my biggest gun at sparrows...

to Станислав
I did not sense a threat but... when operating forward w/ CVEs you have taught me not to hang around too long..remember? lol

i was lucky my BBs did not get caught... you had a good trap. I liked the way my SAG of 4 CLs stopped your threat...read about that on the threads...seems to counter your surface ships ...41 hits on the Ikumba...hmmm...

This turn I tried to attrite the KB next to Truk and stop supply reinforcement of Truk. I was willing to except loss of my carriers in an expected even exchange. My miscalculations are caused by 4 issues.
1. I did not use one 25 ship CV TF. I used 2x 14 ship CV TFs consisting of 5 CVs each.
2. In this early RA mod FatR has all 80 exp fighter pilots that come w/ the new carriers. I did not factor the effect in air to air combat. Most of my CV ftr sqns are in the high sixties. I believe the newer versions of RA give the Japs 60exp CV fighters which I think is more realistic.
3. FatR has advances '45 carrier fighters on his flight decks. He did criticize me for not upgrading my CVE FM2s into F6Fs.
4. FatR also stated via email I could have put my F4U-1 onto the CVEs. Yes, but I would not have broken thru in SWPAC.

I have started to wonder about the down tweaking that has occurred to the F6F-3 for this early RA mod. Does the F6F-3 perform better in stock?

at this point I am rather disappointed by the whole story.... it all becomes so lopsided....one can only hope that this is better in later versions of the RA-Mod...(never reached late 43 with it)

F6F-3 isn't a bad plane in stock - but then again- it doesn't usually go up against A7Ms etc...

Hell of a place to be as an AFB. How much impact did you have on his strikes with your CAP (I didn't see a combat replay above)

Where to from here?

I suspect I would have hit a brick wall at the Marianna's if not at Truk. Seems this senario forces the allied player to wait until 45 to push forward in the pacific because of the fighters available to the japs.

Also not sure of the effect of the PP cost of changing navy/marine fighters out of the upgrade path. When I started the senario the allies had unlimited switching. Now it cost 100pps per switch out of tree and you cant upgrade to anything else w/out paying another 100 pps. I suspect FatR and John do not understand the restrictions on the allies caused by these beta upgrades, combined w/ the IJ upgrades of the RA mod.

My basic issue is I should had more jap ships sunk at Truk. As I understand the issue my
f6f-3 which matched the enemy cap 1-1, was not good enough to fight the a7m2.

FatR replayed the turn and got a different more IJ damaging result. I did a sandbox and also got better results w/ placing all 10 of my CVs into one large TF.

One issue in this early RA release is all IJN naval air pilots on the new RA70 CVs start w/ 80 experience. It is hard to get USN naval air pilots up over 70 experience w/out combat. So to get these pilots experience I would dismount them and place them into the SOPAC operations area. The problem would then be these f6f-3 pilots would get shot down in combat because the frame can not stand upto the ki-84. So this is a no win situation...and a damning report on RA in one specific area of concern.

If the mod gives IJ 80 exp pilots then the mod needs to give the allies 80 exp pilots.

If the mod gives IJ 6 extra fleet CVs then the mod should give the allies an F6F-3 more historical to real life to help solve the problem.

Now I dont see the ability to cross to the PI till 45. I realize I would not have been able too in any event if the Truk battle had not occurred because the Truk battle would have happen around Mindanao. Probably w/ the same result.

With all the above said I admit I am an average player and I consider myself lucky to learn from FatR.

44-8-2: Moulmein has one retreat path to the SE. all other hexsides are allied. FatR has said he will need extra day or two to figure the situation(that is code speak for moving ships and planes). Rangoon dropped 25000 supply points this turn to make this attack.

Complements from FatR on the RA70 mod thread:
quote:

Thanks to Bigred, I've run a sanbox flak test, against my troop and airfield at Moulmein, where I'm trying to stop the Allied offensive (in vain, as I've just realized, sorry, Bigred, the turn isn't there yet because I didn't figure out immediately just what you did, so now I need to think how I can delay the disaster). As Magwe and Rangoon had pretty heavy flak forces and Moulmein is a very important hex, it is now loaded with medium-calibre AAA.

He's been getting very busy- it's been a week or more for him to turn around most of the turns from our game as well. Also the better the turn runs for the Allies the longer it takes him to do his part.
