Galactopedia Entry: "Scum but they can be usefull..."

In the Galactopedia there are a "Archive" that say that you can play "Different Games" by turning automation on or off, but a real alternative game would be if we could play as a pirate faction, earning money by destroying Empire freighters and privately owned ships and bases, "Capturing" freighters and asking for money to release them, collecting cargo of destroyed ships, that would be awesome.

I think that the design for the pirate ships would be difficult to make, maybe if you can change the components that are already in the ship or adding 2 or 3 more of a same class would make this more balanced.

Also the diplomacy for Pirates could be enchanced by instead of offering "Protection" we could ally ourselves with them, or trading Empire ship designs and ship components instead of researching them.

Making Pirate fleets of Pirate ships to destroy mining stations, or sending only one ship to destroy one entire base.

Space Ports would give like 100.000 CR to the "Pirate Treasury" because of the HUGE amount of cargo that may jettison of the base.

Giving names for your Pirate Faction like "Starship Raiders", and having Pirate Reputation wich must be as good as possible, so more pirate factions would make negotiations with your Pirate Faction.

Maybe the next patch allow us to make Pirate Factions playable by using modded content.

Being able to play as Pirate Factions, in my opinion would enchance gameplay and replyability dramaticaly.

Alternative gamestyles are more suited to an expansion rather than a patch.

However, as I've repeated in numerous threads, if the galaxy is really "alive" one should be able to scrape a living out of any game strategy.

Piracy included.

Good points. I was thinking about modding a pirate faction (The Orion Syndicate) but as things are, this wouldn't quite feel right.

With added features like ship capture, boarding crews and ransom, these things would go a long way to making pirates more realistic. However, the drawback would be how the colonies work. Pirates, of course, don't colonize, they set up base. Perhaps they could be restriced to barren rock worlds with very small populations with no tax. Money then would need to be made by pirating and privateering.
