Would it be possible for the AAR author to disable or lock the thread?  Any discussions or questions could take place in another, companion, thread.

That's an interesting concept but only Matrix guys can do that on the open forums.

Stuart,
Mate i've quietly observed the AAR's and liked your feedback on Elmo's and PD's campaigns, after working out the mechanics of the game i think you'll blitz it as well as any. I'm looking forward to your AAR and how you'll be dealing with the Leningrad/Moscow line, will you drive north from Moscow to cut of Leningrad and link with the Finns? Interested to see. Aside from this: Any thoughts on playing Soviet for this AAR?

PD,
Great work on the AAR, I honestly did not think you'll take Moscow let alone 50k's beyond. You have family and a job so we do appreciate the time you've put into this, a lot of us out there who observe & enjoy without comment and I would very much like you to take up the challange again on another AAR.

Laurence

My position on the matter is fairly simple:

1) There's no reason to go all partisan about a game that has not even been released yet. Debates about "yes men" are completely unnecessary, not to mention quite silly.

2) Attitude can contribute something to an AAR, but primarily when there's an AAR for the other side, as it adds perspective to how a player thinks. Attitude does not, however, belong in an AAR against the AI, for the simple reason that a victory against the AI, no matter how challenging, will more or less always be easier than a victory against a real player. A victory against the AI doesn't automatically make you a good player, so there's no need for an attitude.

3) What PyleDriver failed to understand is that AAR's for unreleased games are, aside from being a rarity, also problematic from the perspective that he and the other testers know what most screens, toggles and options do in the game, but we don't. Having a "no questions" policy simply doesn't work if the person writing the AAR keeps showing screenshots involving screens or features we've never seen before. The Q&A thread is not the "you can find answers to questions the writer of an AAR doesn't want to answer" thread, but should contain a general discussion in the shape of a question and answer session of the features of the game. It should not be the dump thread for unanswered questions from any AAR. Summarizing the point, asking people not to comment aside from comments on possible strategy, without giving any answers to questions as to how exactly the means to make that strategy work (the units, equipment and game system) function, doesn't work and can lead to irritated responses.

Thank you for that feedback.   I so enjoyed those two AAR's, and couldn't resist posting.   Kind of broke my reserve with regard to public forums (as you may have noticed - and which some may now regret!!! )

I would like to do an AAR from a beginners perspective, warts and all and dreadful mistakes not hidden!   I could be advised by some of the masters on this forum - ComradeP and Flavius (even though we don't always agree!) spring to mind but there's lots of well informed people here, as well as much more experienced testers (Jon - time to get your own back on all my guesses and 'tips' on your thread!!).   If people give me a hard time, let's see how I react!

Maybe Road to Leningrad would be a good one to rehearse but I'll need to check with OKH!

As for the Russian viewpoint, that will be later for me...

Although I'm flattered by the compliment, it would not be honest to say that I'm a master of anything, including debates this forum. With regards to those debates, I'm mostly a guy with a bookcase full of books about various wars or warfare in general (that's probably something I share with many of you) and a reasonable skill in finding the information I need when someone asks for it or if a specific date and time needs to be found for something. If I would only be able to read English language publications, my knowledge of Axis equipment and units would be far more limited than it is now.

There are a lot of informed people from a fair number of countries on these forums, people with different perspectives on the war and the ability to dive into different archives or at least find information in languages other than English, which in the case of the War in the East can be crucial.

ComradeP  - who cares about honesty!

Actually, Pieter, I really do value both the challenge and the historical accuracy that you (and others) bring to the forum - you also don't insist on things, which I really like.

And patience, Wodin (it's not often you get to say that to the god of war!) - I am still very busy at work and need to get a bit better at the mechanics, I think - maybe another run through Road to Minsk.
