Hi,
Straight to the question
I tought Dive bombers allways perform Dive bombing no matter what altitude you choose (afaik set altitude was only "aproach altitude"?). However I found this in one of the AARs:

quote:

michaelm had slight typo on that altitude list, here is corrected:

Mission: Bombing
A/c type: DB
(1) Group altitude: 10-15K
A/c are treated as if performing a diving attack
(2) Group altitude: 16-19K
A/c are treated as if performing a glide attack
(3) Group altitude: <1K
A/c are treated as if performing a low level attack
(4) Group altitude: 20+ or 1-9K
A/c are treated as if performing a normal horizontal attack

...

Diving attacks have a better chance than gliding attacks to make a hit; pilots with good NAVAL_BOMB skills have a better chance. Exit altitude is 1000-4000'. Glide attacks have a better chance than level bombing but not as good as diving attacks to make a hit, but; again better skilled pilots have better chance. Exit altitude is 2000-5000'.

So, is there anyone that can post the same "rules" as how are LB, TB and fighterbombers treated acording to the set altitude?

Also can someone confirm (or deny) that there is a penalty when using level bombers below 6000' , and if there is one what is it?

Non attack level bombers doing naval bombardment under 6K half their payload. Not sure about ground / airfield combat for level bombers under 6K
TBD's always drop to attack to TBD altitude no matter the cruise altitude you pick, assuming armed with torpedoes.

I think...not sure...FB do not suffer the payload penalty when low attacking

Thx for the answer but im still missing something
All Kates are by defalut at 5k altitude at start of any scen, so when using bombs are they treated as if performing "low level attack" like DB's?
If set to 16-19k are they treated as if performing a glide attack like DB's?
Do TB/LB/FB ever "use" any other attack but level bombing (while using bombs)?

Set TBd to use torpedo and no problems. Acts like level bomber otherwise in my experience.

I advise against glide bomb altitudes for DB's. Set them in the DB range maximizes their attack. Similar for LB's IMO 6K is better then 9K is better than 15K, assuming you can stand the a2a and flak losses. I strongly perfer lower altitudes for LB's when at all possible, but I tend no to use low level bombing except with attack bombers.

don't leave your Kates on 5k altitude or they will bomb from that altitude (in naval if out of torps) or much much worse on port or airfield attack where they will get eaten alive by flak. IMO anyhting over 10k is best (not sure on max alt) but i use 14k for both dive and torp to help combine attack waves.
