As IJ, I am attacking some multi-corp chinese on flat land. No problem, and I set some armor to pursue. Chinese take a lot of casualties.....but then shock attack on a later date, before I can get my armor back out of the pursuit hex. Even with atacking penalties for disruptions, my unit is overwhelmed. Lost 50 AFVs a couple of times that way.

Since obtaining the position is more important than inflicting casualties, should I just not set units to pursuit?

Why would you set a unit to pursuit only to want to move the unit back to whence it came from.

When the armor pursues, it is now 75 AFV in a hex with, say, 30,000 chinese.  I would love to stay.  But the first time I did that, the shock two days later (before my infantry could come up in support) from the Chinese decimated me.

So, the next time a similar pursuit happened, again with about 100 AFV ending up, unsupported, in a hex with about 60,000 Chinese, I thought I might just...slip back to the main force.  A shock attack by the Chinese again stopped that.

So when your pursuing mobile forces close-up with the enemy, and there are too many Indians you want the option to back off. I bet Custer or Rameses II would have loved that option too, concentration of force is the lesson here I think.

Well, the quick answer, I think, is not to have my armor pursue in such situations.

Only cost me 100 vehicles to figure that out.

Thank you Rankorian....it will not now cost me 100 AFV. I bow to your " taking one for the team", and posting it for us other noobs.
