Faith, and isn't it just a darlin' day, with bare trees and dead flowers and dormant grass (they say it's dormant but the grotty things are brown, crusty, and look as near dead as I can see) and chirping birds (chirping because they are stunned and frozen and have fallen off the branches of the bare trees, and are screaming because they heard the garage door opening:

... no, no, not the car, please, no ... I gotta wife and 72 chicklets ... I'm endangered, yeah, that's it, I'm an endangered species and you can't leave your house till the EPA comes and takes me to USC Medical for treatment (and charges it to your account, primate face) ... ok, ok, I look like an ordinary robin, but I'm really an exceptionally rare Eastern Shore Oriole ... oh, the brown spots? ... um, er, that was from this bar in Memphis and this biker chick dumped a whole pitcher of Sam Adams Holiday Porter on my chest feathers while she was grousing in my goodie ... and what? are you going to judge me on the basis of color? ... oh, you rascist, you speciesist(ist?) ... just 'cause I'm not as red as a Eastern Shore Oriole and that biker chick browned up the yellow spots ...

So I just want to go to the corner store and get some milk, butter, eggs and beer, and open the garage door, and there is this bird laying in the driveway talking on a cell phone and every kind of cop there is in the world is parked in the front yard with an arsenal that would put Hiroshima to shame all pointed at me, going ... "Please step away from the car !!!"

Now I understand why the grass in everybody's front yard, down here, is dead.

Oh, yeah. SoCal has climate, Mobile Bay has weather ! I'm like a hog in a two acre wallow !

This place has me returning to roots. Can't begin to say how much I'm enjoying the reacquaintance.

Ciao. John

Hi all,

Found interesting new Virus/Mallware/Spyware on one of the laptops my users have...

It creates entires for almost any know usable AntiVirus/AntiMallware/AntiSpyware tool and almost all system EXEs

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\EXE_NAME.exe

and adds:

"Debugger" = "svchost.exe"

Thus effectively disabling almost any useful program to clean directly on machine (i.e. the programs is redirected - but no error is given)!

Interesting thingie...

Leo "Apollo11"

That is interesting, and scary. A typical PC owner woud probably not be able to figure that one out.

There are a few bars here one has to watch out for .

On the other hand there are some others that are quite enjoyable. If anyone ever gets through here let me know !

Apparently, there are some old laws on the books in Denmark that allow a Dane to beat a Swede with sticks, should the latter walk across the frozen waters. These laws make no mention of Finns or Norweigians.

I was told it's "seasoned shark". It is very much an aquired taste. I'm not sure which was worst, the smell or taste. But I am proud that I didn't vomit. (I wanted to!).

Steve-I kind of figured you would have been exposed to this, with all of your time on Iceland. I mean, what are the odds that you'd be able to get off the island without choking some of it down?

I was suckered into it by the "frog in the hot tub" method. (You put a frog in comfortable water and slowly raise the heat. He thinks he's in a hot tub!). The responsible individuals had me try a number of Icelandic dishes , which ranged from not to bad to really good. Having found myself fond of the national dish (I can not recall it's name , kind of a curds and wey onto which one sprinkles sugar---pretty good.). Naturally , they saved the shark for last!

Andrew Zimmer ("Bizarre Foods") did a special in Iceland a few years back. He tried some of the putrified shark, Barbecued Puffin and some blood dish (don't recall what, exactly). I believe his report card was anywhere from 'quite good' to 'nasty', recipe dependent.

Zimmer's a lot more daring that I am (or was, even in my younger days.....I draw the line at anything with "blood" in the description).

Never heard about that one

My guess it's because of when our king Karl X Gustav marched his entire army across the ice to surprise the Danes with their pants down ...
