ORIGINAL: Kwik E Mart JWE, sorry to hear of your previous pooch...i'm glad you found another four legged friend...did you say it was a rescue? we've had our rescue doggie for almost 10 years now...the best! Yep, a rescue; Beaudy the Deaugy. Definitely the best. If you have a rescue dog, you have my deepest respect. Nothing more need be said. J We put our former rescue dog down about 2 years ago. She was 16. A registered mutt (through the mixed breed dog club)-she had the papers to prove it too. Sheltie crossed with somethin'-God knows what-but very vulpine appearance, hence the name "Vixen". She was a night drop off box case. Put into a shelter night drop off box when she was 5 months old. Probably her 'puppy cutes' had worn thin by that point and the previous owners were ready to move on to something novel. My wife found her whilest perusing the pound mates, looking for a pet. Vixen was the only dog in the bunch with a quiet enthusiasm-wagging her tail, but not barking incessantly or jumping around. I'm more a cat person than a dog guy, but I loved Vixen. Kindest, gentlest animal I've ever known. Playful, well-heeled (get it!), clever and undemanding. She was a unique specimen too. In this day and age with Schnitza-poos or Cocka-doodles or whatever-whatever elses are routinely sold by unscrupulous breeders and pure-bred puppy mills abound, there's an underappreciated treasure trove of good dogs in the shelter (or breed rescue) systems-if only more people would look there first.
