Independence Day...a decisive victory for the mosquito's. Me and some of the neighbors went across the street to watch the fireworks display from on top of the dike. Now I'm sporting well over a hundred bites in 40 minutes. I think some of the children are still missing. Major SNAFU's on spraying. Air National Guard out of Youngstown, OH was a no show. Ground spraying went out a couple of days to early. Now the mosquito's are sitting in City Hall. All hail our new overseer's.

Well, our @!#$%^&*! air conditioner in the house is officially terminal.  Had them service it 2 weeks ago, and they discovered 2 coolant leaks that will cost around $2500 to repair, as they need to replace the main cooling part inside.  The tech recommended that we get an estimate to replace the entire system instead of dumping serious money into repairs, as the whole system is now 10 years old, and very likely underpowered for our house.  The service tech replaced the coolant that was lost, for as long as it lasted.  It effectively ran out last night.  The "estimator" (salesman) is coming tomorrow afternoon.  I have a feeling I know where some of my first paychecks from the new job will be going.

Albert Pujols is returning to action tonight from the disabled list, about a month ahead of schedule.  That makes me feel a (very) little bit better.

Hi all,

Tried my first couple of quick missions in Rise of Flight. Two observations: it's f***ing LOUD, and it's f***ing impossible to hit anything. Where's my f***ing Sidewinder missile?

Anyway, a "fun" moment was when the engine on my Albatros D.Va just... stopped. Right in the middle of a dogfight with two Frenchist kites, after no appreciable damage, the propeller quit spinning.

Lucky for me, I glided down and executed a perfect landing in a field. I'd already shot down one of the bad guys (nobody was more surprised than me!) and the other declined the invitation to strafe me on the ground.

I will be playing it more, if for no other reasons than boredom and bloody-mindedness...

Nice!

BTW, have you played some serious fligh sims before Kristian?

Do keep the reports up. I'm quite interested in this one if it works....a steep learning curve isn't a problem as long as it is realistic.

Just try it - its i 100% free!

You get 100% functional sim, campaign and on-line with 2 planes (1 for each side).

For starts it is enough - after that you might consider buying some new planes (and spend some $$ if you wish)...

IMHO this is FANTASTIC concept!

Hi all,

Kristian, have you finished the "LA Noire" game (i.e. scenario = 20 or so tasks)?

A few, but I have to admit they were never on psychotic levels of realism. Better to have fun throwing my plane around, shooting my little machine gun, than having to regulate fuel mixture and radiator positioning manually...

Hi all, pretty new here and never had time to visit this thread.

I saw you're enjoing Rise of Flight. If you like flight sim i'd suggest to give a try to IL2 Sturmovick 1946 with the latest omnicomprehensive mods around. It's probably the best WWII flight sim ever.
The online experience is awesome and there's a huge community playin it...many online servers have more than 100 players flyin at the same time (especially in U.S. evening time) and the learning curve is really really steep.

There's also the last one of the serie...Cliffs of Dover...always produced by Oleg Maddox... it probably still needs some patching processes but it's very very very good.

Suggest to take a look at some of the in-game movie on youtube to have an impression of it

Darn...

BTW, reviewer here (in our biggest PC magazine) gave it 88% although he noted all problems and showed community discussions regarding various issues - his conclusion was that it is "Adventure of the Year 2011" but it would never be "Game of the Year 2011"...

I am old old old simmer (and helped make several of them)...

I have Il-2 Sturmovik since the beginning... I also still love and enjoy the I-2 Sturmovik 1946 8although I don't have time to play on line)...

Regarding Il-2 Sturmovik - Cliffs of Dover - this is very very problematic sim at the moment and it would take months (if not years) to make it right (and, BTW; Oleg Maddox left Il-2 Sturmovik - Cliffs of Dover some time ago)...

The reason I would choose Rise of Flight over any of the Il-2 line is that RoF is the only modern WWI sim around. I've played a bazillion WWII sims and am heartily sick of them.

Raise of Flight is the best flight sim around at the moment (though some would argue that A-10 and derivatives are also in the same category)!

Also regarding graphics and effects, IMHO, nothing comes close to current "Rise of Flight"... the clouds the rain... superbly simulated...

Lazy.

Haven't done much the last days. Sunning, bathing, reading books on the beach etc. Barely have had energy enough to log on to THE THREAD!!!

Heading out again. Going to lay down on the grass and let the grass tickle my back, while looking at funny-looking clouds.

I haven't played one for a while now. I used to play IL-2 (and Pacific Fighters) a lot, but the whole thing is done to death for now.

My favourite flight sims have all been by Rowan Software... Overlord (my first ever flight sim), Flying Corps and MiG Alley. Happy memories

I have those as well...

BTW, did you have "Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory" - the community made patches for it (latest one if 6 months old)!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Britain_II:_Wings_of_Victory

It was based on Rowan's Battle of Britain sim.

AFAIK there is no other sim where you can have hundreds of aircraft in the air at the same time (and it also has nice unpredictable AI)...

Welcome to THE THREAD!!!, GreyJoy!

I'm not much of a flight sim fan. The only one I ever played seriously, and played to death, was F-117 Stealth Fighter. No joystick. I was a keyboard flier.
