Hi all,

Des, did you get some serious snow that stayed in NZ yesterday/today?

Leo "Apollo11"

Hi Leo... Yes we have had heavy snow storms now for the last three days, and it has hit most of New Zealand. But we have a lot of roads closed here in the South Island, and the local supermarkets are starting to run out of some things. But we are OK here, as we have nice warm house, and we are well stocked up (learned that one before). Also the good thing is that it is spring in a few weeks, so this is the last winter storm.

Thanks to Martin and Scott for giving me the turns that got me through a long and boring night shift with a little sanity!

Is it actually worth building Yamato and Musashi, btw?

Why?

I can see them being good CV escorts and they are mostly already built, I suppose. If delayed would I ever have enough respite to restart them? Martin is too good at punishing my silly first time errors for me to suppose I will retain the initiative for long. And I am probably already derailing my late war economy through ignorance and stupidity...

With all the resources poured into them already, Yamato and Musashi shouldn't be stopped. Shinano, on the other hand...

As soon as she moves into queued status she will be halted. Martin kindly allowed me scenario 2 as I am a JFB cherry. It looks like Taiho is also a Shinano in this scenario (the other way round in the class tab), but I have been able to stop her already.

Actually I think Shinano is a Taiho-class CV in Scen 2, i.e. well worth building.

Because you get two good BBs within a year if you continue their production. The Yamato class BBs are good ships, potentially devastating if used to their greatest strengths. Can you imagine the chaos you'd create if you slipped an SCTF with these two beasts into a mid-war Allied amphibious landing? They'd laugh off CAs and hold their own against all but the best Allied BBs.

IRL, these mammoths were seen as a bit over the top, but they were respected for their potential.

After Yamato comes off the slips, you'll have sufficient Naval Yard points that you can expedite other (smaller, presumably) build projects. Then you can pick things up more after Mushashi comes off the slips.

If you don't develop Yamato and Mushashi, your largest replacement surface combatant will be a handful of CLs that arrive after hostilies commence. IMO, you need the shot in the arm that these two beasts give you-and it won't set your carrier deployment back that much.

If done right, you should be able to field ~20 carriers by Mid-1943 in scenario 2 whilest creating Yamato and Mushashi.

I was thrown by the fact that they are as expensive as Yamato. Could somebody clarify this before I make a real error, please? If they are both Shinanos I do not want to play, but if they are really excellent armoured carriers with decent air groups then I MUST have them. I will only have ****e fighters to go with them of course, but every little will help come 43/44...

Yep!

Also please remember that too much is already put into their construction - stopping them would not help Japanese cause much...

And here it is another week. After a couple of good 40 hour weeks. Back to 15-20 hours again. I'm sure it'll pick-up again. Just when?
Insurance company is trying to terminate my coverage because of my shoulder. However with the help of my doctor I'm filing an appeal. I think it will work out. It is just a lack of the insurance company gathering information. Almost done for the day. Get some yard work done, play with the labs, get in a bike ride and play some AE. Not to bad I guess.

Feel your "pain"

I just finished a 3-week stint as Full Time 40 hours while the main tech guy was on vacation. Now he's back and i'm down to 20 hours a week again. Medical coverage??!!!! what's that? Just got a 1000$ bill from the hospital and ER doctor for the simple act of getting a Tetnus Shot and having my wound irrigated.

And they wonder why the country is going banktrupt.

$1000 bills? I didn't think they were even in circulation any more.

I'd consider getting a tetanus shot and having some wound or other irrigated in exchange for a $1000 bill, Nik. Is this some sort of medical experiment program?

It should tell you what class of ship Shinano is in the in-game database.
