Just spent the best part of two hours writing a letter and then editing it for several companies.  I'm actually glad I've only written to five so far.  Why is job hunting so dull?   Anyone fancy giving me a job?  I'd prefer something along the lines of Generalissimo of the Kettle.

Hello all. Has anyone heard when the current Beta version patch will likely go official and become magically available to those of us that aren't computer geeks and Beta testers?

No official patch is on the horizon. The beta isn't the difficult to install.

Did you tell me what Tang Soo Do is??

It's one of three traditional Korean Karate styles. Kind of 'old school'-more typical karate style than, say, the better known Tae Kwon Do. The latter is kick and leg-heavy, minimizing the more balanced hands activity.

Ah, thank you, i remember!

Martin, so no hope for new RAF contract?

BTW, did you try applying to some civilian aircraft maintenance companies?

Morning guys.

Unfortunately, my wife is going to hospital today because of pain in the right arm..this problem is caused by the discs in the neck.

The same story like last time, only she had pains in the other arm before, only after an operation she was ok.

I've not heard anything, plan for the worst and hope for the best as they say. I'm not sure I want to carry on with aircraft once I'm out but I probably can't afford to be choosy really. Which is a strange thing to say about aircraft work

Mechanic? Me? I think you'll find I'm a technician! Or a fitter on my car insurance. It may not mean much difference to you, but in the RAF it's a big difference

I'm confident of getting something once I'm out, it's just that I'm unsure what it will be.

My parents lost one of their dogs yesterday   They went out with my brother and his dogs, four BCs ran on ahead up the path towards a river/stream but only three were waiting when they caught up with the dogs.  My brother was wading in the river to check she wasn't in there.  I'm hoping it's good news that they didn't find her in there yesterday and that she's been spooked or something and she'll turn up in a day or two.  They were out until it got dark last night and again at 5 this morning.  My brother actually spent several hours wandering around dark fields with a torch looking for her.

@Apollo + Dixie

Thank you guys. She´s out of hospital now, but she has to go back Wednesday for operation.

First a pain therapy was planned, but now x-rays showed the possibly real problem:

Osteoarthritis(?) and Calcium deposits in shoulder joint?(used google translator:-) )

Hope this op will help.

Hi all,

Spectacular Time-Lapse video of Earth from ISS!

The film starts over the Pacific Ocean and then moves over North and
South America before entering daylight near Antarctica.

Well, no turn over the weekend, but I may have found another great time-sink to keep me busy while I'm mostly ignoring football games on TV.

http://aurorawiki.pentarch.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php

It's a 4x space game with enough detail to keep even Major Mike happy in micro management land.  It's got quite a learning curve, and there is no real manual.  I'm figuring out what to do from the tutorials, the forums, and starting a game where I only worry about learning one new aspect of the game, and then restarting.

I figure one or two of you lot might really enjoy it.

Thank you! I am shure this will end some years of pains and problems, even it will not be a 3-days-visit in hospital.

Leo "Apollo11"

I forgive you

At the most basic level, a mechanic can carry out basic routine tasks on the aircraft and knows how to use their tools. A technician can do that, but is also expected to be able to think for themselves, understand how the relevant systems to their trade (either mechanical or avionics) function, be capable of fault diagnosis and how to avoid the rubbish jobs
Currently my job means understanding how the RB-211 works (in mind-numbing detail at times), the aircraft fuel system, auxiliary power unit, fire suppression, electrical generation and AAR equipment. Plus I'm expected to have a good level of knowledge of the flying controls, undercarriage, hydraulics, pneumatics, structure, water and toilet systems and oxygen. The only stuff I don't really need to know in depth is the aircraft batteries, wiring and computer stuff like the black box. I'm expected to be able to make judgements and provide advice etc to the 'grown-ups' as required.

When I joined I joined as a technician which meant 15 months of training before I was let loose on a real squadron. I finished my training fully qualified to carry out my job (in theory). Shortly after I joined the system changed, now the new arrivals train for a few months in order to learn the basics then get farmed out to a squadron for 18 months or so before going back to train as a technician. As far as I'm aware the fitters (as the RAF understood the term) are mostly gone.

The RN did the same. I did a 4 year apprenticeship in the RN and became an artificer, now they are no more.

Sorry about that old chap. We've been having some major technical problems of late. Long story short-we've had to redo the turn from scratch and then we also had some technical problems on top of that.

Radio communiques from Mars have assured us that tonight is the night.
