Status: offline 		I'll add a vote for "The Caine Mutiny." Granted, it's more entertaining than historical, but I seem to like the movies that take a solid look at the psychological aspects of the war (on the other side of the world, that includes "Twelve O'Clock High"). Besides, what someone earlier posted about Burt Lancaster, I would say about E. G. Marshall, even when he's playing characters you want to take into the back alley on a dark night.

"Tora! Tora! Tora!" is great for being 98% accurate, with bonus points for finding actors that bear strong physical resemblance to the people they're portraying.

Kelly's Heroes is not a WWII movie. It's a Vietnam movie. And a terrible one at that. I realize there's a solid subset of decent AE Matrix Forums folks that like this movie, but you guys just have scales over your eyes. One day those scales will fall from your eyes and you will be mortified that you had any good thought about this movie.

If I had to choose WWII Pacific-Theater movies, my list wood begin strong and quickly taper off, in this order: Mr. Roberts, Tora Tora Tora, Bridge over the River Kwai, the two modern Iwo Jima Movies, Midway (they really tried to do this one right), and that would be about it.

If anybody dares to list Thin Red Line or Windtalkers....


Don't get Dan started on Kelly's Heroes. As already seen in this Thread, his pleasant Southern genteelness goes to Hell and Gone when this film is mentioned...

Status: offline 		How about adding Away All Boats? That one is a bit more obscure.

I enjoy Harm's Way due to the cast and fact that it ends in a depressing manner. It is almost Shakespearean with 2/3 of the cast dead at the end of the movie.

The Raid is a good film. Quite surprising in fact...

Watched Midway recently and it struck me as SOOOOOOO dated since the revelations of Shattered Sword were brought out.

LOL, thanks for reminding me to never enjoy a movie someone that writes a review on it takes issue with, in essence I'll watch nothing.

Objective Burma , the US force was much smaller than Merrill's Marauders and I see no basis for "Hollywood trying to take credit", I look to Hollywood to get entertained and not neccasarilly for historical purposes.

Status: offline 		"The Raid" is known as "Ghost Soldiers" which is a book about this.  IMHO the book is much more devoted to historical fact than the movie was.

Haven't seen Sophies Choice, but a student of mine brought along her copy of GotF because I was teaching her in a Year 10 History Class some years ago (Australia in WW2) and I agree, it probably *is* a 9 or 10. Very sad.
