The USN did have a bad day today , and we Briys dont think ALL american bombers are mediocre , actually the newfangled ones with 4 engines are rather spiffy if truth be told. On my end of the map japan launched 2 assaults , one in java and one in china. Java i imagine he thinks i must be short on supply there by now , nope , still got 43000 piled up in waterproof bunkers, the outer trenches were taken by Japan but the valiant Dutch won the day <huzzah>. Ground combat at Madioen (54,104) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 30553 troops, 496 guns, 88 vehicles, Assault Value = 987 Defending force 34629 troops, 377 guns, 175 vehicles, Assault Value = 955 Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 4 Japanese adjusted assault: 242 Allied adjusted defense: 4378 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 18 (fort level 4) Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 4192 casualties reported Squads: 9 destroyed, 252 disabled Non Combat: 7 destroyed, 169 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 71 disabled Allied ground losses: 416 casualties reported Squads: 2 destroyed, 34 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 46 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled We can live with 10-1 loss ratios quite happily here and unless Mike moves a big bomber force to java I'll be lasting a lot longer (maybe even untill liberation , but more on that i due time , loose lips and all that). Now assaulting Changsha is at best a gamble , and one thats been built upto forts 7 is potentially usicide even when 1/2 the garrisons off elsewhere. Japan had turned its major bomber force this way today too but even though 200 japanese level bombers flew overhead only one engineer was wounded and a small dog found in the bottom of a crater. Level 7 forts are really resilient to air attacks. This however should be a salutory lesson for island hopping in the pacific later on in the war. Forts HURT even when manned by stick armed peasants. Ground combat at Changsha (82,52) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 57711 troops, 576 guns, 361 vehicles, Assault Value = 2108 Defending force 39612 troops, 214 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1424 Japanese adjusted assault: 1818 Allied adjusted defense: 7529 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 4 (fort level 7) Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), leaders(+), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 4869 casualties reported Squads: 3 destroyed, 341 disabled Non Combat: 10 destroyed, 298 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 51 disabled Allied ground losses: 1534 casualties reported Squads: 3 destroyed, 116 disabled Non Combat: 4 destroyed, 156 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled Even up in Burma Japan decided on a few days worth of heavy shelling in Mandalay, Sadly for Japan if his guns are in range of my men then the couter is also true and the combined aussie (3 units) and british (2 units) of medium arty blew the hell out of forward japanese gun batteries and accompanying infantry forces. Ground combat at Mandalay (59,46) Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 51763 troops, 553 guns, 151 vehicles, Assault Value = 2175 Defending force 64603 troops, 1153 guns, 1282 vehicles, Assault Value = 1957 Japanese ground losses: 2065 casualties reported Squads: 63 destroyed, 49 disabled Non Combat: 39 destroyed, 36 disabled Engineers: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled Guns lost 21 (7 destroyed, 14 disabled) Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled) Allied ground losses: 56 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled 20-1 is even better news for the allies. all the above might just look like crowing from the CW high command , but its not as that always invites Mr Murphy to the next party, insted consider it the usual arrogance from the Ministry of War. Allies will return the favour tomorrow with a heavy shelling of japanese troops along with a b17 raid and hopefully his heavy disruption will prevent heavy friendly casualties. We will see howeever. Not sure i mentioned this before but japans now adjacent to scwebo on the west side , not good as that threatens to cut off mandalay. This was bad timing for the Brits as armoured formations were rebuilding in mythilinka and heavy reinforcemnets are still stuck in the burmese jungle. Doubt we will lose Scwebo but it might be a short while before we can evict japan from here. Odlly both sides AF's have been v quiet here for a while. Mine because its now in china (some of it anyway) and a combined blenhiem/wellie and b25 raid hit the incoming japs near Sian. also planning a BIG air engagement soon with japans bombing hammer. So we are airlifting american and brit AV support forward and trying to build a few airfields nearer the front lines , american fighters (50 P40's) are up on the tibet border area hiding from jap recons , so all japan can see are usual chinese fighters in Chungking. If i can ill also throw in the P38E's from Burma as hurricanes take forever to transfer over because of thier short range. More next turn chaps. PS , Can anyone give me any tips on how to get supply to Scwebo ????? its been stuck on 19+ for weeks now even with supply pull buttons on and huge airlifts into nearby lvl 4 airfields. I thought parking HQ's and troops there would help but they seem to be starving now , meanwhile mandalay is usually fine on supply so long as i keep mythilinka topped up with transport AC from ledo. actually this is becoming a major hindrance as all i have got here is lvl 1 forts and pathetic lvl 1 AF. DEbarking the 7th armoured brigade just north of Scwebo from trains and hopefully we'll avoid being bombed but this uint sems to be a damage magnet in burma (hence refitting in mythilinka).
