Well, I've been quite surprised (and delighted!) when watching that combat report:
This is -by the way- only the second wave, about a dozen Val's scored hits on her... With 71 points, I guess she might be the biggest possible "civilian" target (concerning ships) in game?

Why is she even there ? There isn't a single port in the area big enough to unload her properly. Still, nice work taking her down.

Well, I think that must be AI-related. A human player would certainly not send her into those waters, especially in January of 42!

I have taken Rabaul on New Year's Eve and I'm besieging PM at the moment, so I might feel the suspicion that this had been part of a desperate try to send additional troops up there as fast and as much as possibble.
Judging from the report, at least more than 2k of troops went down with her. An AMC was hit further north at the same time while being underway to Milne Bay, and took more than 600 lives with it.... All in all a very bloody mess!
