Port Moresby is clear of enemy troops since some days... BANZAI!

after say one week lull and alomst no action at all, we detected an enemy troop convoy unloading at Espiritu Santo... two long-range bomber attacks were followed by a small cruiser TF. Unfortunately we could not scramble together more ships in time for a quick response. But they took some toll too......

about the same time (Early March, 1943) the Allied commander sent dozens of subs into the rich minefields of Irau. Most of them sunk with their load of Marine troopers....

In the meantime, the enemy has launched a LBA offensive against Irau with B25s from Luganville under P38 escort) and 4Es from Koumac. Not much damage yet.

though many mines claimed their victims (10+ DDs sunk) the enemy came in strength this time. However, still not enough since we were able to bring in sufficient reinforcemnts (one and a half division) to push them hard. The ground combat is turning now, and we guess the allied troops will collapse soon.

On the Sea, KB sailed south of Irau and caught another bold BB force at extreme range with some Vals. It was covered by Corsair LRCAP fighters which took a heavy toll plus dozens of our bombers shot out of the sky by their hefty AA. Some hits were scored on them anyway...

The Allies have taken some hits to their Sub Fleet, but things are turning around for some of the Captains of the more aggressive and newer submarines. These have greater endurance and a double load of torps that actually detonate on impact.

The majority of the early war "S" class subs have all been replaced by the latest GATO class. There are now approximately 30+ SS between Truk and the Solomon Islands.

Allied Captains have been ordered to lurk in the shipping lanes to and from major Jap Ports that are the life line for IJN IJA war machine.

The Air War continues to pound the frontlines. Unfortunately some of the Allied LR Bombers were attacking ships that had LRCAP assigned to them. The Allied Air HQ has new orders to reduce those casualties...

Another invasion attempt for Port Moresby is currently being prepared as the LCI and LST ships arrive in greater quantities. Hopefully SWPAC will have enough to lift 2 full divisions into PNG and establish a beachhead.

Search and Recon Aircraft have reported that PM is only a level 4 airfield... The Construction Battalions will have their hands full when they arrive.

Additional Marines have arrived in Noumea. They are currently training up for the invasion of Lunga. Hopefully the Navy and the Marines can coordinate their Commanders not to screw this up again...

The enemy came in strength again, this time with a regular invasion fleet. After sweeping and "hitting" about 3500 mines (about a third) we attacked him by air & sea.

However, some troops made it ashore and we´ll see what they are up to

at night, two bold surface groups dealt with the enemy landing fleets...

Of course the captains in their nutshells were surprised to see 14" & 8" gunned warships in front of them....

since all fighters of the USN cariers were busy with LRCAP over the invasion fleet, their flattops were an easy prey for KB. One CVE and one CVL reported sunk. And of course many APs & AKs

recently the Allied forces invaded the undefended spots of Gavigamana & Nevea in the Northern Hebrides. Of course they met countless mines there... many ships (at least 6...8 DDs alone) sunk just due to them. Nevea was infested by 13,700 pieces of this kind.....

So now the enemy is busy to clear his new possessions from the lethal stuff in order to supply & build them up. Since we´re pretty aware of his shortage of such precious vessels as MSWs (14 sunk) we sent a small TF into our own minefields of Nevea to catch some of them by the chance... and it worked! Three more minesweepers sunk, along with some barges.
Our own casualties: five DDs and a CL damaged by mines (20...50 sys range)

this opportunity was just too juicy to neglect.... The enemy has swept all the mines by now, and sent a transport fleet to his new base (under Corsair LR cover, aided by some CVs).
We sent a cruiser fleet to interfere, with great results. Two more of his MSWs and several cargo ships hit, some reported sunk instantly.
Our ships did not receive a single scratch.

However his 4E pounding starts to become pain in the... you know. And the Corsairs already took their toll on our fighter groups escorting a few bombers to Gavigamana.

Believe me when you read the first few posts about RGIJN getting a lucky torp hit on the Enterprise and Yorktown - and later on several LR port strikes on Noumea.... Enterprise still sits in port with over 30 sys dmg. Yorktown is fully repaired and out in front line service. It might be late in catching point spread 3.5x difference, but it will be good experience for the Allied Commander to figure out Ralf's tactics around Lunga.... This is not over in Port Moresby either... several more transports were released from PH and are being relocated into SWPAC command. I wonder if there will be enough lift capacity to get everyone into PNG???

the enemy sent his few carriers close to Irau, and his strike badly damaged three APs on the piers. Since we did not expect such a move only parts of our airforce was ready to protect & attack.. But even then, our Nell bombers managed to send some fishes into their bellies. Two of them is too much for a CVL we guess.
