WEll I have it installed and am up and running. A noticiable speed boost over WIn ME and 2000, whether that is a clean install on a virgin HD or optimization (likely a combo, but still a welcome improvement. I couple Lessons learned. If you buy the update and want a clean install to a virgin HD (usually requiring the full version) you CAN do it (I booted form teh CD itself and it went off on its merry way - prompting me to insert a WIN 9X, ME of 2k disk when it realized there was no thing on the HD. It formated to NTFS and installed in about 40min. Even somehow configured my network connection and had me online via my cable modem when it was done. Staples has a very good bundle deal. I got WIN XP and 128MB memory upgrade and a 12xW-8xRW-32xR Sony CDR/RW with 50 disks and label software FREE (with mail in rebate). They had a bunch of junk software too, I only got a card creator thing for my wife) I also got the System works and Internet security packages for XP by norton for 10$ each after rebate. So for like 120$ I got about 300$ of free stuff. Anyway I will keep you posted. Overall the facelift is a big improvement (opinions obviously vary) I'm not a big MS fan, but so far this seems to FINALLY be what windows should have been about 3 years ago...

Hey Paul
Thanks for the positive comments.
Whether I like XP or not looks like I will be running I shortly. My friend that constantly fixes my computer says he is upgrading my computer for christmas (he thinks my computer sucks and would rather buy me the parts that fix it all the time hehe).
He likes XP and say I am getting it as well. I have seen a lot of really scary comments elsewhere on the forum about XP though. And considering I reeeeeally dont know anything about computers, I am usually unable to tell when I should worry or not.

I agree with you Paul. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and it is so far the most stable Windows I've seen. The install was very smooth and as Paul says, all the CD's are bootable and contain a "full" version much like previous Window's CD's. You can format and install directly from the setup screen. Not only did it correctly configure my cable connection, it also configured my home LAN, even on the PC's without XP installed. You can pop the CD into another PC and run a utility from the setup menu that will configure networks without installing XP

Are you serious? XP runs SPIII???? This means I can turn my win98SE box (thats sole purpose was to run SPIII )into something more useful, like a firewall for my home network!!!! Woo Hoo. W2K won't run it.

Just a further comment. Seems XP can also fake being ist more brain dead predesessors as well. I have a copy if Civilization 3 that wouldnt run right. My friend said right click on the executable and then use properties to make it compatible. Seems XP can even act like other OS's if it wants to. And it truly does run SP III.
