I apologize if this has been asked before, but after the loss of the Lexington in the battle of Coral Sea and the loss of the Yorktown in the battle of Midway were salvage/emergency repair/towing task forces ever utilized by the USN? And now for the harder question, could these be implemented in the game?

I have been asking for this WITP AE came out. Its not in the cards but we can only hope that one day we will see fleet tugs and ARS's in the game.

Try a Google search on "Cripple Division 1" or the histories of USS Canberra (CA-70) and USS Houston (CL-81).

If you put a tug in front of a cripple, I suppose you could call it a "task force"...

I remember reading somewhere that the ability to move any TF one hex per turn is to simulate the ability to tow disabled ships without having to include fleet tugs and things to go along with it (code).

I believed that it could be set up like an escort TF except it would only consist of the target ship and a Tug/ARS. This would allow a modifier to the cripples chance to NOT increase flotation damage and/or a chance for the crew to repair non-critical system damage.

This is not to say the cripple can't have a catastrophic failure and sink, it would just make it a little harder to happen.

Thanks for all your responses. I understand the 1 hex abstraction and T's humour I was thinking along the same lines as #45. I will not call anyone an oldman however.
