The situation is the enemy has now almost completed building large airbase on the railline, and are now moving forward to Kalemo. A US unit (Engineers?) has recently arrived, and more are likely to follow.

They are generally launching airstrikes from the mid blue circled bases.

We have decent airfields around Rangoon, and at Toungoo. Our attacks on Akyab launch from the later. We still only have about half of the airsupport we really need.

Currently we are mostly at Rangoon and Toungoo, with around 200 and 90 bombers fighters back in Thailand upgrading and resting.

We have two choices:

a. LRCAP our own bases that they are hitting.

b. Launch a 150 bomber strike against one of their bases.


a. has the advantage of fighting over our own bases, and by not risking our bombers we maintain a "force in being". Disadvantage is ability to generate the mass needed.

b. has the advantage of possibly getting them on the ground, which will cause more damage, and with 890 Zeros and 100 Tojo sweeping should give us mass. Disadvantages are fighting at long range over their bases, so our pilots won't be recovered.


Tony prefers a, I prefer b, opinions? Discuss!

Situation
The enemy CV fleet has been destroyed, and will take 6 months at least to rebuild. - This means that they can't protect any invasion forces. This means they will aim to fight on land, or through taking small "leaps"

Their ground forces in the Pacific have been hard hit, however they are probably almost rebuilt. They almost certainly were preping for Port Moresby, so now will need to reprep.

The enemy has ceased air attacks in the SWPAC area, it is assessed as unlikley that they will continue on this axis.

Enemy Intent
The enemy will attempt to maintain preasure on the Imperial forces, advance where they can, while their fleet rebuilds.


Their main opportunity is the Burma area. NORPAC and SOPAC areas are also potential targets. Java and the East DEI is unliley. Sumatra is possible, but a risk.

Indicators are of a main effort in Burma, and secondary effort from NZ in the SOPAC. NORPAC is about to enter the "bad season" but they may take the opportunity to advance.

Sumatra is our biggest weakness. It is possible but unlikley. Pre requisites for the allies is freeing up forces from India (reducing their ability to advance on Burma, getting sufficient assault shipping, and generating local air superiority.


Planned Counters
Recently arrived gound units will head to Sumatra and to SOPAC/CENTPAC.

6 CVL/CVE (Mini KB2) will head to the Bay of Bengal, and raid nth of Ceylon, denying the enemy access to Suimatra, and forcing them to deply fighters in their rear.

KB will spilt, four fleet CV's will stay in the SWPAC/SOPAC to counter attack enemy forces.

Mini KB, reinforced with 2 KB CV will raid behind Pearl.

The main BB force will remain at anchor saving fuel (which is always a problem).


We can't do much for Burma yet. We aim to draw off some air support by raiding with Mini KB2, and limit their ability to reinforce from Oz/USA.


We are going to reinforce China with an Armd Div and two Inf div, with the aim of attacking in the south.

Future reinforcements need to head to Burma, in particular more air support.

Status: offline 		Burma is tough. Read PzB's AAR for a flavor of the power of Allied bombers.

Short answer: If the enemy is using primarily British bombers and USAAF 2Es, I favor the LRCAP option. If they are using USAAF 4Es, I'd try to bomb their bases. I assume the 890 Zeros is a typo, if it's not you really can't go wrong with either choice.

Nemo is of the opinion, and I agree, that sheer numbers can hurt the 4Es. Multiple attack passes on the same bomber eventually kill it outright or make it an Ops loss on the way home.

Consider blasting Chittagong with a bombardment TF. KB or Mini-KB could be used to good effect bombing enemy airfields over a short term "pulse" type Op.

One lesson I have learned is that it is better on the ground to hold in the jungle rather than in base hexes as the jungle hexes are less effected by 4E strikes.

Status: offline 		Thanks Crib, yes I read PzB AAR, my experiances in Burma in the past have been "bad" for the Japanese. Being in complex terrain is key... but it also appears having Armour is as well.

At the moment the target is the US 2E types. The 4E are well back, maybe a BB raid on Chittagong supported by Mini KB2 is an answer.

Agree with Nicks, we have one unit of 45 defending Rangoon. Just getting other groups to upgrade to is a problem!

The problem with the CAP trap is getting the intended target right, whereas the offensive manouvre you can pick a target, in this case there are two.

Status: offline 		Obviously I havent read PZB's AAR but from the other side the allied weapon is more fragile than it appears.

B25D1's, G's and H's are the real powerhouses of CAS followed by Fighter Bombers but only if they have 70+ Gd Attack 50+ Low Gd Attack skill - 4E are not the problem they appear (assuming you have a HR against using them on Ground Attack or at least limiting them in that role)

So kill B25's the rest do a fraction of the damage.

4E are great at AF suppression but the key there is dont build your AF's to big - a lvl 6 AF gives you almost all the benfits of a Lvl 9 but takes far less time to fix when smashed. Lvl 9 AF's appear to be a good thing but when pulverised they take forever to repair so dont build them that big !!!

Lvl 1 or 2 AF's will take 100% damage from 100 x 4E but engineers will have them operating again in a day or 2 - the same 100 4E hitting a level 9 will also do 100 damage but take two weeks to repair (for either side !!!)

Status: offline 		Thanks Andy, agree with you. Thats why I'm most interested in smashing their 2E aircraft. The benefit of the LRCAP trap is we kill their pilots, but as this stage of the war, where 2E airframes are at a premium, I'd like to kill those.

Good point about the airfield size. As we don't have the airsupport available anyway I think level 6 sounds about right. Also trying to build forts to get the to 6 too...

I'm concerned that Andrew will now focus his efforts on a land campaign in Burma. If he sends his forces the long way round it will take him several months to get there... but another 3 Allied div, in particular US divs with all their replacements, will make Burma tough.

I think we are fairly safe in the Centpac, strong enough to handle the NORPAC, and have now blunted the SWPAc... that leaves SOPAC and Burma...

Status: offline 		For my attack v PZB I had about 30 additional Seabee Bns transferred to India all focussed for a year building up frontier bases AND I had hung onto Akyab and had Myktina/Katha built up as well without the build up supplying a ground war in Burma in strength is tough

Status: offline 		You have to destroy Allied airframes. How you do it, is the issue?!? Enough American fighter pilots is not an issue, but having enough airframes can slow an Allied player down. You have enough Recon groups to check out each of those bases in your screenshot to know where he is at. Sweep with Zero and Tojo while the now obsolete Oscars are used only for CAP and Escorts. Even if you lose 2:1 in bombers to destroy airframes on the ground, you can afford it. The allies cannot replace them at this time.

We have been hitting Norfolk Island from Noumea for Days, apart from craters we aren;t doing much.

Our thrust ine will now head back to the far south. A Tk Div and an Inf div from the DEI are heading to Haiphong, we will soon release an inf div from Manchuria, and we are marking 3 Ind div and 2 more Tk regt this way from the centre.

We are bombing the target cities and they should have limited forts.



I hope we have enough force in Burma though, we have no strategic reserves, although 4 garrison Bdes are about to leave China to head to Burma, which will free up a division for offensive action.

We aim to quickly take Daly Waters, then retire on Darwin and ship a Division out.

Nth Oz is now very secure, we will retire to Darwin, holding Katherine with a small force and Darwin with a small force. This will give us more time to dig in the East DEI area, which is now quite formidable. We have two solid lines of bases, the outposts at Merauke (now level 4 airfield) and Darwin. Ground combat troops are at a premium though and we will need to continue to rely on a floating reserve.

The west DEI is still week, but Java is good and Sumatrea getting better.

The SWPAC is very strong, we can probably start moving forces out soon.

Burma is still on a knife edge. Supply is tight, but 50k is on the way. Fighter and bomber units are in greatshape, but ground forces are limited. We have committed our reserve to the nth, but three garrison units will soon leave Japan to help in this area.

Our strategic reserve is currently committed in south Chjina dn Nth Oz, The later can now be freed up giving two fresh Divs that can be used somewhere ofensively if required.

We are about to have enough points to release a Div from Manchuria that will initially head to China.



Andrew is now firmly on the defensive everywhere but Burma. He has lost control of the sea, it is only the vastness of the Pacific that is allowing him to operate... we will try and fix that soon :)

Our aircraft resarch is going well, see below. Resources/Oil/fuel is gradually improving in Japan, but supply is a problem everywhere... fortunately it shouldn't really impact on operations though.

Currently IRL sitting in Darwin looking out over the bay!

Status: offline 		9 ships are now shown as sunk, many more will not make it through the night... good experiance for our aircrew!


The Tojo IIc comes forward another month, now Dec 1943. We expect it to be online at this rate in about April 1943.


We have now killed several hundred Australian tanks. Caught low on fuel they were easy pickings for our air and our armour. They will take a long time to recover, so Darwin is fairly secure now and we will pull our strategic reserve out to fight elsewhere.

We are planning to take Carnavon, to try and spread him out. On the other coast though Portland Roads now has 12 units... We are preping for Horn Island, mainly to deny it to him.


Burma looks to be nasty around Warzup, a Brit Div, the 6th Oz div and a fair bit of armour looks to be coming. We should get there in time, but probably won't have great forts. Our supply is already in the red, and we are on the rail line! Part of that though is relatively low levels of supply in Burma, around 50k is on the way with the bulk of that arriving within 3 days.

In Nth Indo China we have built up LaoCai to level 2 and now fighters from there, safe from the enemy, will begin to interdict their transport aircraft.

Status: offline 		Any turn that begins with the headline "convoy slaughtered" is a good turn. That's a LOT of merchies you two have sunk throughout the course of the game. That objective from way back seems to be on track. What cumulative impact on enemy assault shipping do y'all estimate?
